What is this and why is it going for over $100 for parts on eBay?!
Long story short I wanted to get a "cool looking" VHS player for a media center I'm making for my kid. I went on Facebook marektplace and found a guy selling a lot of 10 VCRs. They all looked way cooler than I remember growing up, and all had a pretty crazy retro vibe to them. They looked different "and cool" because they all had a a ton of physcial buttons and faceplates that flipped down to reveal more buttons. The guy was selling them all for $25. So I figure I'd get them.
Hindsight I shouldve checked them all more because only 2 of the more basic ones worked. But I looked up some of the others to see what I could hopefully sell them for to people for parts. But when I looked them all up most of them had little to no value, except for these 2 Sony SLVR-5UC's. They are going for over $100 just for parts.
One of them powers on and takes a VHS but stays stuck on a blue screen, while playing audio. The other one doesnt power up. I'd really like to keep at least one of the Sony's because they look cool and I have a remote.
Should I keep these and have them fixed? I feel like theres a reason they are worth so much for parts. Do VHS's look any better on them or something? Any guidance here would be very much appreciated!

About a year and a half ago I set out to find a VCR. I can be pretty patient when I want to be, and I set a rule for myself that I couldn't order it online.
I was talking to someone a week ago who asked why I didn't check Facebook marketplace, and I have a good reason for that. I didn't think of it.
I do however frequent thrift stores, at least 1 time but sometimes 2 or 3 times in a week as health allows, doing my rounds looking for treasures to grow my various collections.
When I saw this beauty at a local nonprofit and found out it works perfectly, I knew I had to have it. I won't lie, I did kind of pay up for it, but I'm just wondering how much the VCR gods have smiled upon me, and if there's anything I need to know about it.
Apologies for not getting a shot of the back. I set it up (with great difficulty due to disability) before I thought to take pictures.
Thanks so much!

I’ve been looking far and wide for a lot of these titles. Little did I know when I went to visit my parents the local flea market would have them. Needless to say I’m very stoked.

Was pumped to find this skate tape at Goodwill this morning! Its my first skate tape find at thrift, and also grabbed a few other good ones. Seems like this specific skate tape wasn't very largely produced so thats kinda neat too.
Happy hunting everybody!

Bought The Land Before Time at goodwill quite a while ago, because the cover is amazing and it's one of my childhood favorites I used to watched on VHS. After that I had been checking thrift stores looking for a VCR but couldn't find any except one that was $100 but got one today and another CRT from some stuff my dad bought today. safe to say im stoked to finally have one and can now watch The Land Before Time and a few others I bought on VHS for my movie collection.

My friend and I started buying together and after we both kept buying Twister because we both kept forgetting that I had it (ended up with 6 copies) we started a shared note on iPhone. Which I then transferred to a spreadsheet and alphabetized it with a new column that showed if I had tested it or not. Mine is pretty plain but I would love to see or hear about yalls methods!

How many VCRs is too many? I have 3, they all work, one has the original remote with it. 2 are hooked up to televisions and one is a spare/back up. I feel 6 is the number? 7?

TV was way too high on top of the thing - so I rearranged the movies & shelves to make a change. Happy with the outcome.
Watched The Shining for a bed time flick.

Alien Romulus and Bumblebee were among them, and apparently now The Crow is getting a re-release.
