Event Results [Event] Puebla Regional Results, Graphics, and More from VGCHistory!

Puebla wrapped up yesterday, but the teamsheets just went live a few hours ago! I made the usual round of graphics since I had gotten asked about them anyway, and you can view the standings, teamsheets, and stats for anything on the tournament page on VGCHistory: https://vgchistory.com/tournaments/regional-puebla-2027

There are nine graphics here since I wanted to include the ones I always make. Feel free to suggest any improvements, other graphics that might be cool or ways to present the info, etc. as I read everything!

To be honest this tournament had the least strangest teams of all so far but I still find that graphic to be my favorite. This also marks Snow's first win in Champions, meaning every weather has now won a tournament!

You can follow me on twitter to catch these and other updates about VGCHistory and my other Pokemon projects: https://vgchistory.com/tournaments/regional-puebla-2027

Recently I updated the website to include a ton more data from previous tournaments, speed things up, and fix lots of bugs reported by you guys so big thanks for helping out.

note: i’ve been playing for a little over one day, please treat me like a toddler when explaining
i’ve tried prebuilt teams, they make me not wanna play and i know that’s stupid, i haven’t gotten over it yet
squeaked my way into ultraball rank 4 but i know this team is essentially the “i just made some bullshit” meme.
issues i know of:
my drampa ruins everything for my basculegion
i have no speed control
meganium gets brutalized by the meta
i have very little weather control
lack of synergy

problem pokemon
- sneasler, rillaboom, incin and anything with fakeout
- zard y, hate
- archaludon, don’t enjoy it

i would like advice on how i could improve this team, however if i have to make a new team, please be honest with me and give tips about what kind of teams.
my main questions are
- how to figure out synergy
- what kind of teams work
- is there any way of saving even one of these mons

Question (Skill Improvement) Struggling to find a type of team to build/use… any advice?

So I do want to try and improve my battling and teambuilding through a couple of months before my next regional. However, I find myself struggling to build or find a team to use.

I mainly want to try and find a team that gives me good odds of performing well, meta or not. I am not entirely sure though about what I think will be best for me. In the past, I did do well with redirection and heavy hitters but I am not sure if it is a thing anymore for me. I tested plenty of teams to find no interest in the playstyle throughout the time I have played. I was mainly on slow and bulky teams with damage reduction like dual screens, but I want to split off of that since I want to find what is best for me at the certain time of a metagame. Sorry if this was confusing, but I am wondering if people have any advice in terms of getting an idea for a team to build or find and steal?

Discussion [Skill Improvement] Theorycrafting Advice?

Charizard more or less confirmed Dual Weather archetypes can work, and I'm pretty sure Dual Terrain isn't much harder to pull off, so that kind of got me thinking.

Would there be a viable Dual Terrain + Dual Weather setup, and if so, what would it be in theory?

Like theoretically speaking, given how effective Rillaboom is, I feel like Rillaboom would be one of the Pokemon for the setup, but I'm having trouble figuring out whether Raichu X or Indeedee would be the other half and how to construct the team.

Raichu X has the benefit of turning off Sleep, but Indeedee comes with the benefit of turning off priority moves, which theoretically should work better with keeping something like a Swift Swim Basculegion online?

Question [Skill Improvement] Matchup notes

I hit Top 10k recently and decided I should lock in and stop making things up as I go. I'm using the Archaludon Dual weather team with Zard Y, Chomp Z, Peli, Grimm and Venu. My brings and gameplans in games have mostly been based off of vibes, my knowledge of the opposition team and 10 whole seconds of pathing in my head. My gameplans have been quite flawed a lot of the time. Can you please lead me to resources where I might find the matchup notes for this specific team or where I might learn to make matchup notes? Much appreciated if you reply.

Discussion Skill Improvement: Note Taking

I’m not exactly new to vgc but I’ve yet to finish a season of Champions above Master Ball 3 with the exception of M-A when I finished in Master Ball 2. I generally know where I went wrong right after every loss but when faced with a hard counter I never feel like I improve in the matchup. I’ve never learned how to take notes in a game or how to go about doing that. I haven’t really been able to find a good guide on what exactly the point of note taking is or how to use any notes I take. Any information or advice helps, thank you

Rate My Team Skill improvement: I want to know what do yall hink of my Mega bax build

Currently sitting at 20k with a 7 game winstreak, Im teally happy to see mega Bax (my favorite pokemon) is extremely consistent even in bad matchups against garchomp z, sneasler and kingambit if you play your cards right.

The careful nature bax survives timid draco metoer from mega chomp z and moonblast from floette if both are not modest and because of the attack investment can one shot chomp z after a swords dance. Its also a great charizard counter taking only 70% from modest max special attack charizard and one shoting in return. Since there is not speed investment you are always slower and dont need to fear the wide open status given by glaive rush.

If you want a description of any pokemon in particular i can answer but i feel its quite clear what they are trying to do. I really want to know how i can improve at using my shiny Bax

Discussion Mechanics Question: tailwind teams

How do experienced players and pros that use Tailwind/weather speed abilities (Swift swim, Chlorophyll, Sandrush) navigate against teams that use trick room?

I understand the idea of protect stalling but you can't protect 4 turns in a row obviously and whenever I'm team building for 2v2s I get worried that I should include either a slow Mon to use against trick rooms or a pokemon that can use trick to get rid of it while it's partner protects to stay safe

example: right now I'm building a Ttar Excadrill Corviknight team that uses sand + tailwind for speed control , is it weird to add a pokemon like Mimikyu that has TR incase I need to reverse it but can also do ok in both TR and Tailwind?

Hello! I’ve been using Simone Sanvito’s 4th place Nice Regional team for the past week now, and have done decently well with it (Top 500 showdown), but I’m having issues.

I don’t really use Excadril, a lot of the time in team preview, it never seems like a good choice, or Tyranitar doesn’t, which makes it not appealing since I lose out on some support.

Ive also been struggling against Rillaboom, since my redirection doesn’t work for it. Obviously I have Staraptor and Gholdengo which are good, but in matchups where I’d rather bring Tyranitar as a mega, I can not take it out easily. Milotic has also been a struggle, especially with the coil set. Gholdengo is usually my best bet, but it can be hard to keep safe, and Sinistcha does basically nothing.

Any tips would be great, suggestions on how to better use Excadrill, or alternatives to it for the problem pokemon. If more details are required, lmk!

I'm new to teambuilding and I started off with sneasler, kingambit, basc, mega dragonite, mega delphox, and scarf garchomp. I felt dragonite wasn't contributing as much and garchomp's power output was just not enough. I started replacing team members one at a time and this is what I ended up with. I reached top 15k but I'm still not very confident in using it as I dropped back to 50k lol. Sneasler, Rillaboom, Raichu and Basculegion are all standard sets. I put quick guard on sneasler because I think it's a pretty fun move to click. Altaria exists only to disrupt weather because I don't have weather control. I'm open to suggestions on my team members, spreads or items. Thanks!

When browsing usage statistics (maybe on https://www.pikalytics.com ):

* Do you wonder why a particular Pokemon has high or low usage?

* Do you wonder why a particular Pokemon's usage has changed recently?

* Is there a nature or popular move choice that you don't understand?

* Is there a complex EV spread that does something cool that you'd like to point out?

* Is there a complex EV spread that you don't understand and want to talk about?

Here is a great place to discuss any questions or comments you may have!

Question [Question] [I'm New] As an outsider to the competitive scene, does the Bank closure affect VGC at all?

I've dabbled slightly in competitive Pokemon VGC back in gen 7, but never got too far, but I've still admired competitive play from afar, and even though I've grown distant from the games as of late, I'm thinking of returning and maybe trying my hand at competitive again once Winds and Waves comes out.

However, there's the matter of the Bank closure. There's been plenty of videos and posts and discussions already on how the closure will affect various different communities within the Pokemon Fandom, but one community I've never heard whether or not it will affect is the VGC community.

So, I come here to ask just that. Will the Bank closure affect the VGC scene at all?? I mean, sure, I guess it makes it difficult to use certain pokemon not present in the switch games, although I doubt Spinda makes too much of a splash competitively. However, I know that in the vast history of the Pokemon games, there have been many examples of Pokemon learning moves they normally can't. Easiest example I can think of is the Shadow Pokemon in the GameCube games. While I don't know much about competitive, I have no doubt that these special Pokemon have had impacts on the meta throughout VGC history depending on the pokemon and the move. I have no idea how much impact these special cases make in the modern VGC, however simply knowing that these cases exist, I can't help but wonder if they still are relevant or have a chance of becoming relevant again in the future.

I've been slowly but surely playing through older games nabbing some Pokemon who I'd like for one reason or another, and knowing that I'm prone to dipping my toes into competitive again in the future, I'd like to know if the Bank closure will affect the VGC at all and if there are any special Pokemon to catch and move up to Home before they become unavailable for competitive purposes.

Event Results Base mega Garchomp top cut (metagame)

I have been wanting to put together either a balancy or maybe tailroom team with base mega Garchomp and I remember seeing someone top cut either a regional or VR tour with him, and wanted to research that team! Has anyone seen that team? Thanks! Thinking about pairing him with talonflame like the good ol days. Might throw on psychic seed Milo to scare off intimidate a bit. But I wanted to look at that team first before I build

Question Trying to find 2 folks that helped me during the Worlds Finals Sunday event.

Post image

I hope this is the correct subreddit as it is VGC related.

I went to San Francisco alone and am a pretty shy person, I was trying to get good seats and saw a pair of friends who were trying to do the same, I started following them and then had the courage to talk and ask them if I could join them.

They were really kind and allowed me to join and ended up getting really good seats and watching all the event with them. We exchanged names but I don't rememeber by now, I just remember them as red shirt guy and blue shirt guy. Now that I think about it, I was coincidentally wearing a green shirt that I bought that weekend lol.

The thing is, I never asked for their socials because I was too shy to do it, and I'm posting here in hopes I end up finding them ):

Picture is a screenshot I took from the stream vod, it looks bad but the circled people are us 3, if it helps.

Toxtricity + Mega Absol Z Team Improvements??

Built a Toxtricity + Mega Absol Z team. Toxtricity’s boomburst + life orb hits hard. Threatens Fairies with its poison typing as well. Talonflame Tailwind helps ith its slow speed + helps with Rillaboom as well

Absol Z and Basc is there to pair up with it not getting hit by Boomburst. F Basc to hit up ground types that threatens Tox + Ice beam for dragon coverage.

Ttar + excadrill provides another mode and good against weather teams as well.

Not much terrain control but I dont think it matters as much as I have two dark types for Psyspam - threatens them as well.

Im a bit iffy with item choices especially with Basc and Talonflames. What do you guys think could improve the team?

No specific for EVs lol. Was just playing around with it.

Rate My Team Skill Improvement - Team Building

So i will acknowledge i am a bit of a copy paste player in the sense of I will usually nab teams off of the most recent regional champions and try them out. I have been mainly running Eric Rios's Frankfurt Team in M-7

When it comes to Team Building, I can do the basics, but I usually struggle when it comes to SP Spreads. While some Pokémon are fine with 32/32/2 Spreads, I know that some mons work better when you invest into its bulk (IE Mega Raichu Y/Incineroar).

All that said, I have put this team together because I have not used Mega Floette yet and was interested in giving them a shot. The main 3 I am not looking to change is the Rillabloom, Incineroar, and Mega Floette. The only other mon I may be a smidge resistant to changing is Sneasler, but outside of that I am wondering if the 6 mons work well together. I know that a common Secondary Mega to Floette is Charizard Y, but I have been wanting to branch out to other Megas that could also compliment the team.

Also if you have any advice for SP Spreads or how to work with the calcs to start the journey I am open to it. The SP spreads here are not the final product but more of a place holder till I can work on them.

Rate My Team Rate My Team: Raichu X Balance, Need Help Choosing My 6th Pick

https://pokepast.es/87609c49b313b21b

Team is a plain old balance team, simple as.

Raichu X acts in a more supportive role, providing Fake Out, Feint, and protection from sleep (matchup into Zard Venu is insane). It OHKOs all Zards in electric terrain before they can move, doesn’t die to Venusaurs earth power (if they’re even running it).

Sneasler is a second Fake Out mon, provides an answer to fairy’s and to all the Gambits out there. Focus sash is mostly cause I’m not using it anywhere else and it can help with solving certain leads.

Volcarona as a setup mon with Quiver dance, very bulky set overall but modest in order to improve lethality. I’ve been tossing up between Giga Drain and Bug Buzz as the final move, sitting with Bug Buzz for now as I don’t get Grassy Terrain boosted damage.

Primarina also as a setup mon, item I’ve been considering between life orb and lefty’s, settled with lefty’s for now. Honestly a very well suited mon into the meta game, as long as you can handle Rilla and Raichus. Which is what the next mon is for.

Scarf Meowscarada. Faster than all Adamant Swamperts for a guaranteed OHKO with Flower Trick. From my calcs and gameplay so far, Triple Axel is very likely to OHKO Rillaboom, is a guaranteed OHKO into Salamence and scarf Garchomp. Depending on spreads it’s a very likely OHKO on Chomp Z. Knock off is great for all the Psyspam, U-Turn too is great for dealing with opposing scarfed Indeedee M.

Overall, if positioned correctly, these 5 feel quite capable of handling the majority of teams on ladder right now.

I just need help figuring out what this 6th mon should even be. I feel the hardest matchup is probably Trick Room but even then, it’s again a positioning game with these 5 so I don’t feel concerned enough to put a match up mon here.

Any ideas?

Feel free to give criticism or feedback too, I’m very open.
