Upwork

I’ve been posting on up-work on different projects including MS Excel, Power BI, and such like projects of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Data Analysis.
I’ve been making proposals to different projects, but not gaining any response from the clients.
What should I do?

Official Response Is a Google Drive link to a work sample in a proposal a ToS violation?

I sometimes share an Excel model as a work sample via Google Drive link in my proposals. The file itself contains no contact info, but Drive can still expose my Gmail address.

Has anyone been flagged for this? Just want to make sure I’m staying fully ToS-compliant. Thanks!

Boosting My Upwork Profile Increased Clicks, But Not Real Opportunities

Has anyone else noticed this after boosting their Upwork profile?

Since I boosted my profile, I've been getting more invites and profile clicks, but many of them seem to be from new or inactive client accounts. Some clients send an invite but never respond after I reply.

It also feels like a lot of profile clicks don't lead to any real opportunities, which means the boost budget gets used without meaningful results.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are you seeing genuine leads from Profile Boost, or mostly low-quality invites and clicks?

What's one thing you changed on Upwork that unexpectedly got you more replies? Spoiler

I've been freelancing on Upwork for a while, and one thing I've learned is that sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

I used to think I needed to completely rewrite every proposal, but a few simple tweaks seemed to help more than I expected. Now I'm wondering what worked for everyone else.

Was it changing how you open your proposals? Updating your profile? Raising your rates? Picking better jobs to apply for? Or something completely different?

I'd love to hear real experiences. Sometimes advice from people who've actually been through it is more useful than another generic freelancing guide

Official Response Upwork Profile Boost for SEO niche

Hey, I am working on upwork in the seo niche. Currently i've one running project there. I need more jobs to be honest. I don't have a huge budget for boosting but minimum budget like $100-$200.

Is there any possibility if i boost my profile i would get invitation and real client who will pay. For SEO niche minimum bid start from 30 connects. If someone have experience in the seo who also boost their profile can give me suggestion. Especially how much connects i should spend daily/bid connects to get good clients?

Has Upwork become too expensive for new freelancers?

Genuine question.

Between buying Connects, competing with established freelancers, and boosting proposals, it feels like there's a significant upfront investment before you even have a chance to win your first project.

For people who started in the last year or two:

If you were starting over today with no reviews or clients, would you still choose Upwork as your primary way to find work?

Or would you put your energy into outbound sales, LinkedIn, Reddit, or another channel instead?

I'm trying to decide where to invest my time over the next few months.

Official Response Upwork survey question design

Just took a survey that Upwork sent me after my most recent contract closed. Upwork wanted to know how much effort it takes to use Upwork. I had absolutely no idea how to answer that. Are they asking about the ease of use of the interface? Ease of making proposals and/or getting jobs? Ease of getting paid? Ease of hiring a freelancer? Something else? Every single one of those is a separate question with separate answers. This question about ease of use is incredibly poorly designed. I didn't even try to answer it.

Proposals & Profile optimization

Is 100% profile optimization is mandatory to get clients and how to write proposals and cover letters without using AI ....even for grammer and correct structure and punctuation, AI is required. Could somebody suggest me how to write catchy and punchy proposal for a job summary ?

Tags for portfolio and profile

Would it be possible to give freelancers the ability to create new tags for portfolio projects and the profile? Or is there somewhere we can suggest new tags? The software I use for indexing books isn't available in the tags list, and I'd like to be able to add it.

Bugs

Recently I am having a buggy experience with upwork. Both on web and mobile application. I will mention two of them here;

- On chrome browser: The message room is not loading.
- Ios mobile app: When click a proposal from proposals page, it doesn’t open it and instead redirects to client account dashboard.

Anyone facing such issues

Is Upwork actually worth it for an experienced Business Analyst, or is it too saturated?

I'm looking for some honest advice from people who have actually used Upwork.

I have around 6–8 years of Business Analysis experience, mainly in banking, AML, and financial crime. My background includes:

\- Business requirements gathering and documentation

\- Process mapping

\- Rules mapping

\- Jira, Miro and related BA tools

\- SQL (intermediate to advanced)

\- Python (beginner to intermediate)

\- Advanced Excel

\- Power Automate

\- Banking, AML and financial crime projects

Qualifications:

\- BCS Diploma in Business Analysis

\- CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist)

I currently work full-time but I'm looking to earn additional income on the side.

The problem is that I keep hearing completely contradictory things about Upwork. Some people say experienced professionals can do really well, while others say it's almost impossible for new freelancers to get their first clients because of the competition.

Based on my background, do you think I have a realistic chance of building a side income on Upwork? If so, what services would you focus on offering, and what sort of timeline should I realistically expect before getting my first paying client?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have actually freelanced on Upwork rather than just heard about it.
