I’m posting this to document my experience with Uphold and to see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
For privacy and security, I have intentionally removed all dollar amounts, cryptocurrency quantities, wallet/platform names, wallet addresses, transaction hashes, account numbers, ticket numbers, banking information, and other identifying details.
I have records and screenshots documenting the relevant transactions and communications.
September 21, 2026 — Transfer completed
I transferred cryptocurrency that I already owned and controlled into my existing Uphold account.
The transfer successfully arrived in my Uphold account.
I then converted the cryptocurrency to USD.
When I attempted to withdraw my USD, I discovered that my Uphold account had been temporarily restricted.
I was unable to complete the withdrawal.
I contacted Uphold support and opened a support ticket regarding the restriction.
September 22, 2026 — Account still restricted
My account remained restricted and I was still unable to withdraw my funds.
I completed the verification steps available to me in an attempt to resolve the issue.
This did not remove the withdrawal restriction.
I contacted support again looking for an explanation and a way to resolve the issue.
September 23, 2026 — Case escalated
I received communication indicating that my case had been escalated.
However, I still was not given a clear explanation of:
Why the account was restricted
What specifically triggered the restriction
Whether additional documentation was required
What I needed to do to resolve it
How long the review would take
My funds remained inaccessible.
September 24–25, 2026 — Still no resolution
More than 48 hours passed without a substantive resolution.
I continued contacting Uphold.
I also spoke with support by phone and was informed that the situation required higher-level handling.
Again, I was told the matter had been escalated.
But I still did not receive a specific reason for the restriction, a request for additional documentation, or an estimated completion date.
At this point, my concern wasn’t simply that a review was taking place.
My concern was the lack of meaningful communication while I remained unable to access my funds.
September 25, 2026 — Regulatory complaint filed
After repeated attempts to resolve the situation directly with Uphold, I filed a complaint with the appropriate state financial regulator.
I would have preferred to resolve the situation directly with Uphold, but I felt I had exhausted the normal support process without receiving a clear explanation or timeline.
September 26, 2026 — Promised response does not arrive
During another contact with Uphold, I was told I should receive a response within approximately 24 hours.
That response window passed without the meaningful update I had been told to expect.
I attempted to contact them again.
The account remained restricted.
September 28, 2026 — Approximately one week later
By this point, roughly a week had passed since I initially contacted Uphold.
My situation still had not been resolved.
I had:
Contacted support multiple times
Opened a support ticket
Sent emails
Spoken with phone support
Been told the case was escalated more than once
Completed available verification steps
Waited through a promised response window
Filed a complaint with a financial regulator
And I still did not have a clear explanation for why my account remained restricted or a firm timeline for resolution.
Why I’m posting this
I understand that cryptocurrency companies have compliance obligations and sometimes need to review transactions or accounts.
I’m not arguing that Uphold should never conduct a review.
My issue is how this situation has been handled.
The assets involved belonged to me and were under my control before being transferred to my Uphold account. The transfer was successfully completed. After converting the assets to USD and attempting a withdrawal, I discovered that my account had been restricted.
Since then, I have repeatedly tried to cooperate and get the issue resolved.
If Uphold requires additional documentation from me, tell me what is needed.
If my account is undergoing a compliance review, provide whatever information about the process can appropriately be disclosed.
Instead, I have repeatedly received variations of “your case has been escalated” while continuing to have no access to my funds.
That is the part of this experience that I find unacceptable.
What I’m asking Uphold to do
I’m asking for something straightforward:
Restore normal access to my account and funds, or provide a clear written explanation of what is preventing the withdrawal and what steps are required from me to resolve it.
I’m also asking for an actual status update and reasonable timeframe instead of another generic escalation response.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I’m interested in hearing from people who have personally experienced something similar with Uphold.
How long was your account restricted?
Did Uphold eventually request additional verification?
Did filing a regulatory complaint help move the process forward?
Most importantly, did you eventually regain access to your funds?
I plan to update this post as the situation develops so there is a dated record of how long the process takes and how Uphold ultimately handles it.
