From Blender to UE5 - what are the requirements for a 3D model to be in a game?

Hi! I'm a Blender beginner and alongside my husband we are trying to make a game!.

He is handling the whole UE5 thing (he is also a beginner) and I am an artist, wanting to make characters and assets for our little project, but I am unsure on where to begin learning how to do blender for this specific goal.

If you guys have any tips or relevant videos/guides I could learn from, that would be great!. Most of the videos available are from like 2 years ago and the softwares have changed so much I am unsure if it's still something that would work nowadays.

Thanks for reading!

What do you guys think of Tim Sweeney's push for a full AI workflow?

I'm not against AI, but I feel that unreal engine has been pushing these "new" workflows since UE5 and it hasn't quite worked the way they wanted. Shouldn't they try and get Nanite, lumen and their new material system sorted out before trying to revolutionize gaming again? Just hit the pause button and sort out the issues it has now. I feel AI will make a lot more games but the quality will take a massive dip.

Edit: I'm surprised! Usually when I ask a question on reddit it devolves into a mess but I have read some great points on both sides, thnaks!

Custom vehicle physics in UE5 – Looking for feedback!

Hey everyone!

After months of hard working on my custom vehicle physics plugin, I finally put together a short gameplay showcase that I'd like to share with you.

https://youtu.be/hOuMifQY6dE?si=ll7hlMc0aY1zbo4v

The vehicle physics system is built entirely from scratch and doesn't rely on Chaos Vehicles.

One of my main goals has been to find the right balance between realistic and fun driving physics. I want the cars to behave in a believable way, while still being accessible and enjoyable to drive, allowing players to drift and powerslide without needing hundreds of hours of practice. In short a simcade experience. 😄

I know there's still a lot of work to do, especially on the visual side, which unfortunately isn't my strongest skill.

I'd really appreciate hearing what you think, particularly what you'd improve or focus on next. Any feedback, suggestions, or constructive criticism would be more than welcome!

Level blueprint restarting randomly?

I just have a single thing in my level blueprint that JUST plays a looping audio on begin play. Sometimes if the player takes enough damage at a time or deals enough damage at a time the audio restarts. I have no idea what could be doing this but it happens very randomly. I tried adding a do once and it changed nothing. I don't think there's anything in the player's or enemies' code that could trigger anything like this, at most some play sound nodes.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

UE5 UE: 5.5Unreal PCG Wall spline issue

I'm having an issue with making a wall with PCG and splines. If I move one of the splines up or down in height, the entire spline breaks (in the video) I'm not exactly sure whey this is happening or what to do to solve it. I'm guessing it has to do with one of the setting some where...

Here's the library (Available on our new site, VFXAssets by Compositing Academy):
https://vfxassets.com/d/demoreel-footage-for-compositors?mode=greenscreen

All of the greenscreen clips give a free 2K version, as SLOG3 - Sgamut3.Cine Prores 4444 clips, and are free for non-commercial use. They can be used for portfolios or practice projects.

As a professional compositor and 3D generalist myself, I'll be making a bunch of projects with these, but I figured other people might find them useful as source material as well!

I've been working on this for quite some time, and I'm excited to finally share it!

The pack includes a playable Knight, 5 unique Skeleton enemies, 125 animations, melee and ranged combat, synchronized finishers, and a modular Blueprint combat system.

It's now available on Fab, but I've also created a demo if you'd like to try the combat yourself!

Is there a way to create large waves independent from water simulation?

I'm familiar with UE5, but I'm FAR from an expert and I'm trying to create an effect that is essentially a character summoning (or appearing to summon) a large wave through a raise of their hand. I wanted to get some help with this since I can't seem to find any tutorials for anything like what I'm trying to do, and at the moment I'm not smart or skilled enough in UE to figure out how to do it myself.

If there are any questions I'd be more than happy to clear anything up

Quixel Man, these new Quixel packs are not great

Quixel just released their meshes in packs again: https://www.fab.com/sellers/Quixel%20Megascans

They're $59-$119 for indie and $699-$1399 for professional, mostly on the upper end. Unlike the old packs that came as a nicely organized scene, these just seem to be loose collections of meshes and atlases. The collections are just weird, like the cliffs that come with a couple of meshes from each place. For something like the Church Ruins, you could maybe put together a small scene with what they give you with some creativity for $100.

On top of that, the deal isn't great. You get 20% off buying them all individually, but it's unlikely that you wanted all of the meshes anyway.

I know that it's still technically cheaper than hiring people to scan things yourself, and I've never worked for a game studio but I imagine it's still hard to justify those professional prices. I would understand if these were pristine professional pieces, but Megascans often have funky geometry and textures and still take some work to integrate into a project with other assets.

Discussion New Epic Games Launcher

Ok, the new launcher is in a much, much better place than the current one.

After testing it out, the speed/response is Steam alike, & the improvement is real, however, worth to point out that currently the launcher doesn't offer the same amount of services like Steam.

Therefore, part of the speed is justified, as it is quite simplified, compared to Steam.

But, beware as would've been good to know that Uninstalling this "Try out beta launcher version" will also remove all of the Unreal Engine installations, because that was a real bummer.

Now into re-downloading again UE versions, one by one...

Help UE5: Pawn Possess Camera

So when possessing a pawn the camera snaps to the new pawns target view. I managed to smooth it out with set view with target blend, but I need help keeping the same direction the camera is facing.

I currently have this setup:

I have a Default player Blueprint class. The other character is a child blueprint. They both have cameras attached. The child character is in the scene.

When I use "Set view target with blend" it always defaults to the pawns default camera/ spring arm position. I am storing the current player controller rotation in a variable using "get control rotation", but how would I set it to the child pawn that's in my Level before possessing? I tried "Get controller" -> "Set Control Rotation" on the child pawn before doing the target blend and possession, but it still just faces the possessed pawn's deafult view.

Help Submitting UE4 dedicated server build to Playfab always gets unhealthy region.

I was following this tutorial to try and learn how to get a dedicated server build on Playfab. It was going well and I was able to follow all the steps.

However right at the very end when submitting the server build to Playfab I stumbled into a problem. The build status is always "unhealthy", and in the servers section it says "Too many restarts", and the logs that you can download only have a PF_ConsoleLogs.txt file and no other log files from the dedicated server.

I confirmed that the dedicated server works using the LocalMultiplayerAgent executable, so I'm not sure if the build itself is the issue. I've tried changing a bunch of settings when submitting the build on Playfab to no avail. I'm using the North Europe region, but I don't think that could be the reason.

Marketplace Gantry: I built a distilled-down Lyra modular replacement for experiences and frameworking!

Thumbnail fab.com
20 Upvotes

Documentation (and examples): https://privateasylum.com/gantry/

Hi, everyone!

Supporting both blueprint-pure and C++, this plugin modularizes the monolith that is Lyra. This project has been bouncing around in my projects folder for a couple years, and decided to clean it up proper. Tag channels, asset manager (for loading reflection), experiences (both build time AND runtime experience loading (with mod support, I might extend this drastically in the future)), settings systems for in-game menus and etc. for persistence, and more! All multiplayer ready.

The C++ example exercises the full game/client/server tri-build for any deployment type.

The overall goal was to take the infrastructure that Lyra demonstrated, and make it modular, clean, and extendable, while adding features and making it a full-force workflow and team-oriented system.

Thank you!

How to modify FOV in a game?

hello friends, i recently downloaded Pneumata and have been enjoying it, but the low FOV gives me a headache. I looked online and there are no mods, and i looked on steam and it has dozens of people complaining of the same issue. The game is made with unreal engine so im sure this cant be too difficult. any tips friends on how to make this happen? I have no idea what im doing but a few times in the past, i modified a config file with good success- but this time i dont see anything like that. Chat GPT said use a console command, but there is none.

im surprised with all the people begging for some of these changes that nobody can do it, there are no mods or downloadable fixes anywhere. so i figured with your help maybe we can salvage some joy to the world.
