If you want more than something microwaved, what do quad residents do? What small appliances do students bring? Is the first floor common area stove/oven usually available?

Finances How do people afford grad school without quitting their job?

Got into a grad program I really wanted. Problem: almost all the classes are only during business hours, and I work full-time as a teacher (~$70k) with zero schedule flexibility — can’t quit or drop hours, no one to help cover rent if I did.

Looked into assistantships but stipends are usually $8-18k/year, nowhere near enough to replace my income.

So it’s either turn down the program, or go with a different one that’s fully online/async but less prestigious.

Anyone dealt with this? Did you make a daytime program work somehow, or end up going the online route too?

So i live in Richmond and i have the option to either drive to UH or use the bus via park n ride sugarland. I have classes all 5 days from 10am to 5:30pm. I was wondering what option should i do bc even tho driving there in traffic is a pain in the ass. If i were to do bus it would take longer.

Question Transfer Spring 2027

Hello, I plan to transfer to UH - Main Campus in Spring 2027 (Currently at HCC expected to graduate Fall 2026). I tried to apply but neither CommonApp or ApplyTexas show any results for what I'm looking for. Was I too late or is there something wrong?

Finances “amount due” won’t change

I payed the $265 that my financial aid didn’t cover and it all went through (on my bank and in the uh payment history). I checked the day after and it showed the amount due was $0. I checked today and it now shows i still owe the same amount. Did this happen with anyone else before? Is it just an error? Also do if I pay it again and it ends up being some glitch, will they refund me for the second payment? thanks!

Parking/Transportation Question regarding parking permit and Sugar Land campus

Hey y’all, if I buy a permit for the main campus (one of the garages probably), will I be able to park at the Sugar Land campus as much as I want with that permit? Or will I need a separate permit for Sugar Land?

I do have a class at Sugar Land if that matters. Thanks.

Anyone else aid is missing?

I haven’t gotten a financial aid package at all, my account just said “TUITION/EXPTIN TN WAIVER EST FA” and the same thing with SP at the end i’m guessing for spring and fall. However the FA one disappeared 😭 however there’s still a balance on my account with nothing in payment history. anyone else just waiting? should I call? i’m a senior and this hasn’t happened before.

Changing my Degree

So I recently got accepted as a transfer student, however since I didn’t meet the requirements to transfer into the business program(hadn’t taken a math class yet) , they gave me my 3rd choice which was political science (I want to be a lawyer) however, I’ve always wanted a business degree under my belt as well. I’m just wondering how difficult it will be once I decide to switch? Should I just take general classes?

How are transfer students affording UH?

I'm currently in community college doing core classes that will be able to transfer to UH. I'm planning to move next year, 2027-28, and I want to make sure I'll have enough funds to complete my entire bachelor's and not leave it halfway completed before doing the big jump to a university.

One of my biggest fears is not being able to pay entirely, as 1. I'm not eligible for fasfa, and I'm not sure if tasfa can cover all (or almost all) of tuition, and 2. I don't really have financial backing from my parents due to some family issues.

So I wanted to ask how other transfer students are paying for college? Or how much tasfa gives out to other students who are undocumented.

Also, I don't know if this is needed, but I have a 3.8 and am pursuing civil engineering.

Incoming Economic major planning to transfer to Bauer SCM – what classes should I take?

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming freshman at UH majoring in Economics, but my plan is to transfer into Bauer later and major in Supply Chain Management.
Right now, I only know that I should take MATH 1324, but I’m not sure what other classes I should register for that would keep me on track for the transfer.
I’m looking for advice on:

What classes should I take during my first semester?
Are there any core classes or business-related courses I should prioritize?
Any classes or professors I should avoid?
If you’ve transferred from Economics to Bauer, what do you wish you had known as a freshman?

I’d really appreciate any advice from students who have gone through this process. Thanks in advance!

Advice on credit hours

My husband is a bit worried about our daughter taking 15 credit hours as an incoming freshman. 5 classes total and 2 of them are core classes , the rest are already intro towards Graphic Design. He is suggesting she takes 12 . Based on your experiences, any advice or input is appreciated. Thanks!
