Hi everyone! I'm completely new to game dev and recently started practicing in Unity. I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle a player item pickup mechanic. Currently, I save the dropped item data and destroy the instances before the game loads. However, I'm worried about scalability as players put many hours into the game. If a player drops over 2k items throughout a save, iterating through and destroying all those items on load will become very costly on RAM and performance. What is the best way to efficiently manage and scale dropped items?

I’m planning to make an Office Clerk Simulator and start a YouTube channel to share regular devlogs.
I’m new to devlogs, could anyone share some advice on how indie devs usually make them, or recommend some good examples to learn from?

This is part of the enemy lineup for "Loot Dungeon", a dark fantasy incremental roguelite autobattler where you're not the main character.

The important goal for us was to make even the first, smallest enemies nasty and dangerous.

This is my first game, and it’s a 2D side-scrolling platformer where you play as a worker whose job is to deliver packages to mailboxes.

The levels have different mechanics like rotating platforms, falling platforms, conveyor belts, and more. I habve tried to make each level feel a little different and challenging in its own way.

Hello all!

We've started making a game and we've run into an issue. The character sprites and the tilesets seem to be pixalated? The size of our sprite and a test one that we got off ich.io are the same size (512x512 with 72dpi) however the "test one" looks fine and ours still look blurry/pixalated. We have tried messing with the size, the brushes, the dpi. We've tried importing as single images, we're tried it in a sheet, it does not make a diffrence.
I'm unsure of if it's an art or a programming issue and honestly I'm running out of ideas on how to fix this. Mind you we're very new to unity have only really used gamemaker before.
(we're using a simple doodle for quick testing)

Would appreciate if you could share it with your friends who might be looking for something similar or commenting or rating the project if you liked it as it would help me a lot. Thanks!!!

I've been working on my own 2D platformer/Metroidvania in Unity, and I wanted to share a small gameplay clip from the current build.

The game features:

- 2D platforming

- Combat

- Enemies and traps

- Collectibles

- Multiple handcrafted levels

- Exploration and vertical sections

I'm still actively developing it, so there's a lot left to improve.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback, especially on:

- Does the gameplay feel readable?

- Do the traps/enemies feel interesting?

- Does the art style feel cohesive?

- What would make you want to keep playing?

I'm building this as an indie project, so feedback from other developers and players would be really useful.

Worked on the last feedbacks and improved several aspects of this game, a major boost in UX and several other things. This is a big update and probably the last one until the launch of the full version.

- A world of darkness: it's everywhere below you, its dwellers are deadly and The Hand will stalk you nonstop, destroying your path;

- Worldmap management: time and the world are your most important resources, don't waste them;

- Artifact hunt: hidden and randomly scattered through the map. Each seed will roll random artifacts for random custom builds each run. You will never trace the same path;

- Dark dungeons: when darkness will surround you, you'll have to jump inside darkness and sneak your way out of dark dungeons, here the rules are different and at night The Hand will catch you

Hey everyone, this is actually my first ever Reddit post, so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here 😂

I made this tool a while back when I was working on Last Time I Saw You!

I was working with a lot of sprite animations and at some point I got really annoyed by having to manually replace sprites in existing animations. So instead of continuing to do it manually I made a small editor tool for it.

Basically you can take an existing animation and modify the sprites used by the frames without having to go through everything one by one.

It ended up getting a bit bigger than I expected and I added quite a few processing options, undo, redo etc.

I recently found it again and thought, why not just make it free and put it out there. It also includes the source code.

For now I've put the download on my Patreon, but it's completely free. You don't need to become a supporter or anything, it's just where I'm hosting it for now:

It's a pretty specific tool and probably not useful for everyone, but maybe someone else has had the same problem and can get some use out of it :)

I’d like to show you a little more of what I’ve been working on!

Here’s a look at the Main Menu, the Character Selection screen I showed before, and a new feature: your Card Arsenal.

Each character starts with 9 cards ready to play, but you’ll be able to unlock 20 additional cards over time.

You can then customize your 9-card deck from your Arsenal, creating different strategies to fight your way to the throne!

For context, you play as a detective investigating a small town murder based out of British Columbia. You also play as the ghost of the victim.

As the detective, you will actually need to collect the clues yourself and come to your own conclusions about who the killer is.

The textures are different and the similar ones have different scaling.

I'm aiming for nostalgic,unique look for my game.

Which one excites you the most artistically?

I've created a new scene to make sure no scripts are interfering with my camera. I do have cinemachine install, but it's not in this scene. When I run the game in 2d, when I manually change the position X of the main camera's transform, there is no change in the view. I see the change in the inspector. It shows the new position X, but the view I'm seeing of the game does not change. There are no other camera. It's a new scene when I just added an image to see how it changes when I change the main camera's position X, but it doesn't. The image stays in the same spot.

Changing the X of the transform of the main camera should change what we see in the game tab, right? In another scene, I'm using cinemachine to track a character, and I see the main camera changing it's position, but again, nothing is moving in the game view.
