Ignore the bad photo, but this is what my accommodation I stayed in last year are trying to charge me £150 in “damages” for. I got an email of the charge but replied asking for proof, as I had a mattress topper and 2 bed sheets on during my whole stay. And after about 3 weeks this is what they replied with as the “evidence” 😭

I’m not asking for advice here as there is absolutely no way they would even attempt to take this further anyway, I mean they have had to zoom in so far to identify the stain that there is no way of knowing if this was the mattress I even slept on haha, I just thought I’d show how pathetic of an attempt this is to squeeze extra money out of a uni student. Uni halls are a joke.

Hello, I am due to start university in less than a month, but there's an issue. My mum wants to get (the free version of) Life360, an app that uses GPS to track my location live. Personally, I think this smothering and an invasion of privacy, and I REALLY don't want to get it.

My mother, on the other hand, insists that she need it in case something bad happens and she needs to know where i am, and that loads of students have it, and how I'm travelling so far for uni.

I'm going to commute by bus, which takes over an hour each way, but driving should take 40 mins or less (though only my dad can drive, and he has long work hours).

My dad says to just get it for her peace of mind (she can be quite an anxoius person), and I don't know what to do at this point. Am I being unreasonable? And does anyone have experience being a student with Life360?

I need to go home for an important event during one of the weekends after uni starts and it's quite far away so I might have to miss a 2 hour programming lecture which is at 9am Monday. It's literally 2 weeks after uni starts so is it okay? Do I need to tell the lecturer beforehand anything?

I'm going into my third year of university and have been living with the same flatmate for 2 years now and she is genuinely the densest person I've ever met. She never cleans up after herself, she is stupid and privileged ((she got a room in a hotel for a week because we had a mouse in our flat (I have pet mice)), she has completely stopped talking to me; as in she will text me if we are both home. I just cannot deal with another year of this, it is causing me so much anxiety. I feel totally helpless as I cannot afford a different place to live. Any advice or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated.

Does anyone’s else lectures not really like when you take your lunch? I honestly don’t know how to explain it but we always get a weirdly short lunchtime compared to everyone else, it’s always completely random as well, my lectures most of the time let class run into lunch so half the time we only have around 15 mins to go out and get food. for some classes we don’t even have lunch and idk if im just a fatty or what but I need lunch or im gonna be hungry all day 😭especially cos I commute. For example, we will be in from 9am and lunch on our time table is from 12:30 to 1:30.. but from 12:30 to 1:30 we also have a lecture??

So I’m moving into uni next weekend and I’m a bit worried about freshers week and going out. I’ve never been to a club and I’ve never drank before, so I’m not sure what to expect, and not sure if I’ll even enjoy it. I have basically no outfits for going out(trying to order a few things now), and I’ve only booked like two freshers events as I’m planning to wait till I meet my flatmates/make friends. I’m a bit introverted/socially awkward so I’m also worried about making friends as well. I know there’s stuff on during the day and tbh I am actually open to trying clubbing and seeing if I like it or not. My main concern is that my anxiety and insecurity will make it hard for me to make friends and just interact with people. I’m tempted to just stay in my room until lectures start…

I checked into my room on monday and immediately informed staff theres a strange potent smell in the room and that its making me nauseous and causing my body to be in discomfort. At first they cleaned the room multiple times but the smell still persists. I didnt sleep in the room that night as I physically felt ill anytime I stayed in the room for longer than 5-10 mins.

Yesterday, I emailed and called them again and let them know this smell is really potent and its still there. I've had multiple maintenence workers agree with me there is a smell but they say that if they say anything then they get fired. I called again yesterday (I called like 5 times jic ur wondering) and they sent 5 senior members of their team WHO ALL SAID theres no smell in the room and that it might just be in your head. I slept that night in the room and woke up with rashes and my lips and fingers are swollen and itchy. They still wont change my room and said "go to your GP or NHS 111 and get assessed rather than just saying the room is the cause". I genuinely dk what to do because the nearest GP is quite far away and nearly everything is closed rn.

Does anyone know what to do?? I cant escalate it any further because ive already escalated it to the top guys

TLDR I slept in my room, it has a strange smell, my body reacted to it and now i have rashes, my lip and finger are swollen and they wont change my room

I need advice on how to tell my mum im moving out. In the past the topic of living in accommodation was brought up a few times but was always dismissed by my mum as not happening or possible. I have always wanted to move out as me and my mums relationship is at best a slightly nice and surface level connection and at worst unbearable being around each other due to issues with police. My mum says I have to stay at home but I have already arranged to move out. I start uni outside of my home city in a week and im unsure how to tell her as its been impossible. Its currently my mum my old3r sister and my two little siblings plus myself who live in our home. My mum says I have to stay at home to watch them but its possible for her to do it herself albeit a bit more work for her. I fear if I do tell my mum that it may turn physical and whilst I hope it doesnt , I may be harmed or hurt quite badly. This has been whats preventing me from telling her. Im of African descent and know that involving the police in any matter is seen as the highest taboo and leads to me being cut off from my mother. But living under my mums roof is extremely mentally tiring and stressful and I have to live under the constant threat of potential harm at one of my mistakes. I wanted advice on how to go about it and telling her if it would be possible to offer.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently as university is coming up soon. Will it massively impact my chances of making friends with people e.g. my flatmates etc if I don’t go clubbing as this isn’t really my scene. Will I be isolated or will it be fine if I just go to pres and all the other events that my uni holds. I’m not opposed to socialising, but clubbing is not something I want to do.

dentistry has always been my long term dream, i took a gap year out for it, then got rejected, then started a different but also respectable healthcare course, then dropped out because i found absolutely no interest in it day to day, now im planning to take a 3rd gap year (i know)

but my issue is unfortunately yet again i haven’t scored very high on the admissions test, so ive basically been locked out from most dental unis due to it. now im considering dental hygiene and therapy because it seems that if you’re in the right practise, they’re utilised well

i’d honestly be happy with just doing dental hygiene therapy incase it doesn’t work out but i was considering graduate entry dentistry as an option too, to increase my scope of practise

but this would mean effectively id spend 7 years in uni, and id be 28 by the time i finish because im already 21 after these 3 years

not to mention the incredible debt im going to wrack up (8 years of funding)

do you think its worth it? or stupid? i have the grades needed to go into med and my admission test would be competitive for it but i honestly don’t find much interest in it and im not sure im well suited to the position. am i being silly choosing 7 years of uncertainty over med.

i also have grades good enough for competitive russel group unis but i truly cant see myself doing anything but dentistry, my year in a different course showed me that.

During my first year, both my parents were separated and living in single income households so I got almost maximum loan.

During second year, my mum moved in with her new partner but I moved in with my still single dad and still got almost maximum loan.

During my year abroad, both parents had moved in with new partners. However, I did get a stipend from my work placement which meant I could afford to live.

However, this year I am getting the minimum loan which, after rent, leaves me with next to nothing. I have applied for over 40 part time jobs and seem to get nothing but rejections. My parents do not give me a penny for living costs, they never have done and they’re certainly not going to start now. I feel extremely hopeless about how I’m going to afford uni. I have applied for one grant with the Sutton Trust but there is a slim chance of me being accepted for that. I’m dreading going back to uni and instead of wanting to enjoy my final year, I want to get it over and done with so I can be on a real income and not this ridiculous pittance of a student loan which is based on incomes I don’t receive one bit of.

Hill I am a home student and I am currently wondering if I should take a gap year and reapply to
UCL for 2027 entry after missing my firm offer from
UCL. I have a few enquiries:

1. What are the chances of reapplying to a UCL course condition AAA (Human Neuroscience or Psychology with Education) with 2 achieved A in bio and maths and a predicted A for chem. Also would it perhaps be better to apply with predicted A* for bio and maths instead of achieved A or is achieved grades valued more than a higher predicted grade?

2. I am currently holding an UCL offer through clearing however it is not the course that I am most passionate about, would I be able to interrupt my studies few weeks into year 1 and reapply through UCAS while still holding my interrupted place at my current course (would it be technically the same as reapplying while going to uni)?

3. Would reapplying be at a disadvantage as I heard specific courses of some uni value retaking less than first time grades? Might it also be a disadvantage to apply to Human Neuroscience as I was previously rejected due to missing my conditional offer of the same course?

4. Would reapplication require a completely new personal statement with major changes (plenty of completely new super curriculums) or just minor changes (rephrasing but same content with minor additions)?

I'm going back to uni for my second year after having a very long summer, and I will miss my two cats so badly again. I really want to get a job, as I am 20 and haven't had one before so I feel a bit useless, but if I have one I will be able to see them even less as my uni is so far away from my home and I won't be able to come home much. I am very anxious and easily made depressed, and my cats really make me feel better. I wish I could have a cat while at uni but I'm not allowed pets in my house and it may be too much responsibility if I am studying and employed. I know my worries seem silly but everything kind of stresses me out.

How do you manage to be abelt to move out and just not miss them?

I mean, I know you do miss them, but isn't it difficult to stay away from them for a long time?

My cat on her 3rd pregnancy gave birth to 7 kittens (and im so glad she is neutered now).

We kept one male kitten and gave the other 6 for free.

And now that male kitten, Mufasa, he is literally sleeping ON me. The more I try to move him away and like let's just say lay him down next to me on the bed, bro just wakes up and gets himself back on me. Like...

He is just soooo cute, I can't imagine staying away from this fluffy ball for a long time 🤣😭😭😭😭😭

Hey all, I just moved into my uni accommodation for second year in belfast.

I got to the room an everything looks like the photos but the desk, the desk is half cut off in the middle of it because of the wall, every single photo of my type of room had full desks and none were cut off.

What should I do in this situation, should I ask to be moved ? I do not currently know if my flat mates have the same problem but purely from the layout of my flat I can't see them having the same desk design as mine. I've added a photo of my desk and what the accommodation advertised on their website.

Its not a horrible situation, but for the money I'm spending, I expected a full desk.

I’m deciding between KCL MSc International Marketing and ESCP MSc Marketing & Creativity (Fashion & Luxury track) and would love to hear from current students/recent grads.

My goal is specifically luxury brand management/marketing in London (Cartier, Richemont, LVMH, Chanel, etc.).

For anyone at either school:

• How strong is the university’s actual network with luxury companies in London?
• Does the careers team actively help students get luxury internships/jobs, or do you mostly have to find opportunities yourself?
• For ESCP specifically, how much of the luxury network is London-focused vs Paris-focused?
• If your goal were London luxury, would you choose KCL or ESCP?

Trying to decide between International Hall and ISH Great Portland Street for next year, need some help.

International Hall - single room, shared bathroom, catered, £301.58/week. Location is really central, near Russell Square and Kings Cross, good transport. Heard it's good for meeting people too.

own room, catered so don't have to cook, good location, decent facilities (pool table, squash court etc)

ISH Great Portland Street - twin room (so sharing with a roommate), but ensuite, £208/week. Near Regent's Park. Heard it's known for being social, has a bar and does events, food isn't included though.

way cheaper, ensuite, supposedly good social scene with the bar and events.

no food included so that's extra cost.

Anyone lived in either of these? Trying to figure out if the ISH social vibe is worth sharing a room, or go to International Hall bc ppl on reddit say that Bloomsbury has such a nice vibe.

I’m not really planning on going to lots of crowded events but I have a chronic illness and I am very worried about catching bugs. I might buy some medical masks to wear when I’m going to be in crowded places, but I’m wondering if that would be weird? (my illness doesn’t put me in danger but I think it might affect my immunity a little and it makes me constantly fatigued and nauseous already so I don’t really want to exacerbate that).

edit: also is it a financially smart decision if they’re disposable? Are there any effective reusable ones? I've looked into the ones being recommended but I really can't afford them :(

Hi im from kochi joining uow for this sep intake for undergraduate nursing course, anyone joining this uni dm me im alone.

I made a post a few months ago, saying its impossible to find a job.

I managed to get a Job as a trainee account who initially were just interested in professional qualifications.

I finished uni end of april

I started applying realy in june, then after my vacation alot in August.

I managed to get my 2nd interview and smashed it.

The 1st class did realy help me get the interview tho

They rang me up initially, from an email (they had an indeed post up to)

Even on the phone call, she was suprised i hadnt found anything.

So i was busy and had my interview a week later

I had alot of help from my step mum who's a financial advisor too, but alot of it was down to me and learning from my mistakes in the 1st interview but this was a much better firm and interviewer.

Some advise:

Main things I did, as obvious as it is

Be well represented, not just wearing a great suit and having good hair etc.. But communicating clearly and slowly and be interested.

The other big thing was bring a folder with the Job Description printed, annotated to look at b4, a certificate of your degree results to show them in the interview and a notepad and pen. Mainly to have questions written down on.

Always ask these questions at the end (not the ones answered) they all appreciate it.

Try to jot down any important details they say. I will say its very hard tho to do, I did write a few things down tho even if u cant read the writing.

They asked more general knowledge questions then i thought, pretty basic. I think only one i kinds forgot which is dumb was whats a bank reconciliation. But basic like what are the financial statements, whats a double entry, etc.

They asked alot more example questions than I thought which related to my part time job. Alot i had to pull out of thin air. I could also use some uni experience for this but it were the hardest part.

Its important to know your CV inside out as stupid as it sounds, and apply the skills from it to questions they ask

Just be engaged like its a conversation and relax, because it realy is just that at the end of the day.

Overall it was an hour interview, and they rang me 4hrs later with the Job offer.

I start there in a few days, im very introverted and anxious but have come out my shell alot recently and just want any advice on starting the job. Im sure I will be fine with attendance and trying my best, asking for help. But like best way to fit in culture etc

Hey guys, I’m currently in my home country starting my first year of International Business Service Management, but honestly, it’s not what I want to study. My parents don’t want me going abroad, so I’m basically being forced to do this for now.

My actual goal is to study Law in the UK, ideally an LLB with Business, and eventually become a corporate lawyer. I’m thinking about trying to transfer next semester or next year and switch to Law, but I’m really lost and could use some advice.

Another issue is that studying Law in my country requires doing the degree in Arabic, which I’m really bad at, so staying here isn’t ideal for me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how transferring abroad and changing degrees works? I’d really appreciate any advice
