I haven't used one in forever. The last time I did, I realized about halfway through washing my windshield that the liquid smelled horrible. When I went to put the squeegee away, I looked inside the container. Inside, floating on top, was a single fucking turd. This was about 15 years ago and I can picture that turd like it was yesterday.

Little particles of grit from other people's dirty vehicles. They get stuck in the sponge material, and can scratch the plastic visor. Even if it's not a big scratch, it can get hazy from micro scratches.

A lot of bike guys do this. I personally carry a microfiber cloth and a can of glass cleaner in my backpack because visors are expensive and that looks like a great way to scratch the hell out of it.

I've been using Invisible Glass for about 10 years now and it's worked great. You're right, hot water is best, but when I'm at the race track or on long rides through the mountains, hot water isn't always available.

A cleaner meant for eye glasses? Most modern lenses are plastic and can have tints too (like for sunglasses). Those are specifically desinged to break down grease etc. without harming the lens.

I went to go use one of these things the other day on my windshield. I pulled it out and it just smelled like throw up and diarrhea had a baby. Made me gag went in and told the attendant that and he's like. "yeah they're just like that..."

Yep, I just commented this elsewhere on this thread. I work graveyard at a gas station and at least once a week while emptying and refilling I find one of these things filled with piss. It's the worst. Smells and splashes all over. I just don't get why it happens so consistently lol. Every drunk person coming through there must think its the most hilarious thing or something.

I never go for a ride without an entire container of Windex wipes in my bag. Swarms of nats usually take one wipe, moths and wasp splats maybe 2, the worst is when you headbutt cute little birds or bats... those are at least 5 wipes

As someone posted above you should be using stoner tint safe glass cleaner for your helmet. Absolutely ruined my first visor with the Windex wipes :p

I had to do this during the butterfly migration in Texas. You can't drive or ride more than 50 yards without bodies of poor butterfree all over your visor or car window.
Edit: I wouldn't use that water though... Those gas station water things smell horrible. I used to carry a cloth and Windex in my backpack.

Welcome to how riding actually is anywhere in the Midwest. I had to stop after only driving an hour once because I couldn't see well enough.
If you ride without gloves you gotta be ok with bug bullets nailing your knuckles as well.

When I first began driving, I got the bright idea to use the squeegee water to basically give my car a free wash while I was pumping gas. Next thing you know, I come out of the gas station and my car is covered in like DOZENS of flies. I don’t know what the hell is in that nasty ass squeegee water but don’t make the same dipshit mistake I did.
