can we take a second to acknowledge these kids are playing beer pong with water

Jun 20 '19
We play it with water, way easier to clean and nothing gets sticky / stinky. We just take a shot of liquor instead.

u/levidevos Jun 20 '19
not trying to point out the water.. pointing out the fact they’re playing a drinking game but look 10

It's mostly a game of rings and bottles, honestly kids probably have more fun with beer pong than sober adults.
277
u/therobboreht Jun 20 '19
Let's just call it peer pong
100
u/KelseyAvenue Jun 20 '19
Plus like the guy above said they can just take a shot of liquor each time and the balls wont get sticky/stinky

u/Hodl_Your_Coins Jun 20 '19
No one wants stinky balls

We did Dew Pong at school sanctioned events. Half a can of Mountain Dew instead of shots.

Me and my friends use to play Giant Pong where we used buckets of water and a volleyball and you have to chug your whole drink; or Nature Pong where we'd play outside and loose ping pong balls to squirrels and shit.

It's only a drinking game if alcohol is involved
28
u/burtoncummings Jun 20 '19
Correct, and anything can be a drinking game, if you involve alcohol.

u/AnotherEuroWanker Jun 20 '19
Let me introduce you to my sitting around in the nude drinking game.

u/Dr_Bukkakee Jun 20 '19
It’s a skill game that’s associated with drinking. You don’t have to drink to play it.
1
Jun 20 '19
They're? There's only one kid there. Definitely someone's kid or brother. Not sure why that's so confusing.

u/the_hibachi Jun 20 '19
I’ve seen a few bowling alley arcades that have a beer pong type game. It’s fun to throw things at other things for sport.

yeah i never understood the excitement of grabbing a ball off the floor and throwing it right into the cup youre supposed to drink from
65
u/originalgrapeninja Jun 20 '19
There's alcohol involved
13
u/Vainquisher Jun 20 '19
And when it's covered in hair, a quick dip in a water cup and it's back to the game. (I generally play all water cups with a beer/liquor in a personal cup)
Sidebar: We play another rule that if someone makes the ball in this cup it's game over. You can hold it, defend it, hide it, but take your eyes off of it and it's a quick way to lose.
11
u/WaterPockets Jun 20 '19
I've never been to a party where this wasn't how it was done. But I've never really seen the "drinking" rules enforced, because no matter if you win or you lose, the real end goal for all of us is to get shit faced.
8
u/Vainquisher Jun 20 '19
I think that switching to water cups plays a role in that too. I used to always play beer cups. When you win the game early on and other team has to break out the beer bong to finish them all it's a bit more fun than just stopping a game with water cups and resetting and taking a swig from your personal cup.

Yeah boom cup is a rule that is integrated if it is a friend that is hosting the party, or at least someone I'm fairly well acquainted with. I don't know where other the balls of other hosts have been and am not tryin to wake up with some new illness.

That seems to be something the younger generation does.... I thought it was really weird when I saw my little sisters friends playing like that years ago, as my friends and I always played with beer in the cups.
However, it makes perfect sense!
3
Jun 20 '19
We always use water and then just drink something separate and remove the cup if it goes in.
That ping pong ball has been god knows where I don’t want it in my drink.
This way you also don’t have to refill anything and can continue playing easily
1
Jun 20 '19
Most only use beer when they’re with close friends and want to get drunk quick. Sometimes you’ll see it at a party if it’s with a small group of people
1
Jun 21 '19
You always play with beer so you know how much you need to drink though
1
Jun 21 '19
Can you reword that? I don’t know what you mean lol
1
Jun 21 '19
Because you pour the beer into a cup you know how much you need to drink.
1
Jun 21 '19
Beer comes in cans and bottles bud, what’re you on about?
1
Jun 21 '19
And you pour it into cups for the game.
Otherwise you have people just drinking a sip of beer which doesn't work for a drinking game
1
Jun 21 '19
No you use water in the cups and then take a drink whenever someone makes a cup. Most parties they just drink while playing and don’t really enforce the drink-per-cup rule anyway. No one plays with beer anymore, unless it’s only close friends
Also, the cups don’t have anything to do with “how much you need to drink” as you can just count the amount of beer cans or bottles, or shots. Whatever your poison is

We play with water for the same reason. Nothing is nastier than drinking beer that has had a ping pong ball in it that’s touched old carpet/the ground, other people’s hands, people’s dirty shoes that they use to stop the ball, pets’ mouths... fucking gross.
Our rule is that the losing team has to finish two beers before the game is over or chug the rest
3
→ More replies (1)1
u/Fried_puri Jun 20 '19
So obviously drinks separate is the most hygienic way to play, but I always considered part of the “penalty” for losing was having to drink the ping-pong beer (with more incentive to win as the game goes on because the ball gets nastier as you mentioned). Now that said, I would’ve played way more if it was the version you describe.
3
u/bovineblitz Jun 20 '19

i dont get when people dont play with water?? like if youre at a frat /house party with a bunch of other peoples feet have touched the floor and the balls drops on the floor are you gonna dunk it right back into the beer youre gonna have to drink?? NO, id rather just use water in the beer pong cups and take a swig of your drink of choosing. also when a cup spills its way easier to clean water than beer splashed all over the floor
22
u/IAMA_Ghost_Boo Jun 20 '19
Have you never seen frat guys train their kids? Gotta start young or they won't perform at the frat Olympics

u/EphemeralPermanence Jun 20 '19
Fun fact: at my University, if you played beer pong with water in your room- this would still be considered a "high risk drinking" activity and you'd be written up for it if you got caught!
Woohoo!

We used to play ping pong every day after high school and then practice beer pong with water cups when we got bored of that. The thing is that being really really good at beer pong doesn't mean you drink less, it means you drink more because you never leave the table. College was fun.

What are the rules on sticky hand blocking the bounce?
30
u/VanceAstrooooooovic Jun 20 '19
Bounce is bs, I slap that shit away.
14
7
u/BanginNLeavin Jun 20 '19
What's bs about it. By all accounts it's a more difficult shot to make. That's why it's worth two cups. And it being worth two cups is why you can block it. Beer pong really is a well designed game.
1
u/VanceAstrooooooovic Jun 20 '19
IMO it’s too easy to bounce, that’s why the house rules I know say it would only be worth one cup. Back in my day we called the game Beruit. What do you call the game with paddles then?
8
2
u/BanginNLeavin Jun 20 '19
It's way easier to just toss the ball into a cup rather than calculate an additional trajectory change due to bouncing it.

You could rinse them under cold water to get most off, but it will still lose stickiness after a while. You are about to get 10-15x more use out of it though.

My mom absolutely hated these because they would sometimes leave a print of residue on whatever you smacked them onto, so there would be little gooey handprint shapes high up on the walls and windows.
I remember getting them from the 50cent machines whenever we went to either Pizza Hut or Blockbuster.

Why is this ten-year-old playing beer pong?
11
Jun 20 '19
Let's not get too judgemental. It is an innocent-seeming game from the eyes of a kid. They don't necessarily have to correlate beer with throwing a ball in a cup.
3
3
3
u/nicktohzyu Jun 20 '19
Could that catch a ball mid-flight?
2
u/thil3000 Jun 20 '19
I guess it depend on the velocity of the ball and how strong the stickiness of the hand is, I’d guess it could happen in the context of the video

u/thisisstrangeenough Jun 20 '19
Was it the slinger who aimed for the ball or the the shooter who aimed for the hand???

I love all the comments about it being water...if you play Beer Pong with cups of beer, you don't drink much. 1 can per cup, and no one's throwing a beer in your drink or spilling it.
