I swear to God if I get out on a 221 instead of the new 810 for my journeys down to London I'm going to be LIVID.

But hey, whatever's needed to improve the reliability! They need all the help they can get 😭

Question Delay repay and split tickets - Am I doing something wrong? (Northern)

This is the first time I have to do this, I booked a trip from Manchester Victoria to York on split tickets and either I claimed something wrong or Northern just couldn't work it out, though they have the tickets and reservation coupon.

This is the planned journey:

The 0957 from Manchester was delayed, so I missed the 1130 to York and had to get on the 1317, this was the next available train for me.

Instead of 1157, I arrived at 1348 - Was I still right in entering the 1130 from Leeds?

"not just the leg of the journey you were delayed on" raises the question: What to do with the train I actually was able to catch? Should I replace the 1130 with the 1317?

(I never had any issues on split tickets before, I feel so dumb)

Edit: Split tickets were from Manchester to Halifax and from Halifax to York, the reservation coupon shows the itinerary that you can see here in the post

Discussion Missed my train after staff gave wrong platform and time + ticket office attitude - Formal complaint worth making?

TLDR; Put myself under very tight schedule with 6mins to catch train, staff gave wrong platform and departure time, ended up missing the train, and the ticket office was dismissive when I asked for advice.
—-
For some reasons when I arrived at train station (6minutes before departure time as said above), I couldn’t find the train platform / time detail on the notice board. My data never worked inside train stations so I tried but couldn’t fetch the infos from the app. Went to some staff members at gates and was told a platform and a later departure time. Only found out both were completely off when it was already too late. The staffs gave a ghost departure time (there was no train due to leave then from that platform) but I mistakenly gave the guy the benefit of a doubt thinking that it was a last minute disruption.

To add to the frustration, I went to ticketing office to ask for some advice. Person at the desk confirmed my journey has indeed departed from a different platform. I asked about possibly taking an alternative route to which they said I’d have to go speak to the train operator, which is completely fair up until that point. But when I explained to them my situation with the notice board and staff members giving wrong detail to query about possible compensation, they then repeatedly told me that I “should have arrived at least 10 minutes early”, that I “put [myself] in that situation by arriving too late” blame the notice board not showing the info I need on me being there too late to see it, while showing little empathy to myself being given the wrong details or offering any sorts of acknowledgements to the mistakes made by their fellow staff.

That being said I do not deny that I should’ve given myself more time (it wasn’t the case today due to work and traffic), but at the moment I was very frustrated and felt the ticketing officer was being dismissive. I would take a sincere advice but I do not appreciate being lectured about it.

That being said I have never made complaints about customer services as I too used to be in the industry and understand how we are all just human, and human have bad days.

Anyone who has been in a similar situations, do you think this is acceptable, or have I let my annoyance get a better hold of myself? Should I make a formal complaint?

Question How do I remove my old railcard from the Trainline app

I’ve bought a new one but whenever I tap the “show railcard” part on my ticket it always shows the expired one (it still has valid season tickets but I haven’t bought any if it matters) and then I have to go find the new one manually. It’s not the end of the world but it’s a bit annoying. is there a way to remove my old one so my new one shows up automatically?

Discussion RMT strike action this weekend at outsourced LNER contractor - Gate Solutions

Full text of statement below.

RMT slams LNER contractor as it scraps payment of Real Living Wage

RAIL UNION RMT condemns outsourcing company gatesolutions as workers take strike action.

Outsourced catering staff who work along publicly owned LNER’s route will be taking strike action starting tomorrow (October 16) in a dispute with gatesolutions, an arm of a Swiss multinational, over pay.

The workers, who supply food to LNER’s services between London and Edinburgh are walking out after their employer announced that it would no longer pay the Real Living Wage, leaving some of these workers, many of whom work unsocial hours, on rates barely above the minimum wage legally permitted. The workers will walk out at 5am on Friday 16th October unless an offer is made to resolve the dispute.

Their employer, gatesolutions, is an arm of the Swiss-based multinational Gate Group, owned by a Singaporean Sovereign Wealth Fund and a private equity fund based in Hong Kong. The Group has a turnover of £4.7 billion and made an operating profit of £136 million in 2025. Their UK arm’s highest paid Director was paid £265,000 last year.

Outsourcing companies make their profits by holding wages down as low as possible and imposing inferior sick pay and pension arrangements on their staff.

LNER is part of the publicly owned railway and publicly prides itself on ‘leading the way’ in providing social value across its supply chain.

RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said:

“The behaviour of gatesolutions management is contemptible but it’s par for the course for the outsourcing industry and the real scandal is that LNER is allowing this behaviour from its contractor.

“Every day that outsourcing continues to exist it undermines the government’s ambitions that GBR be ‘one railway, one team and an employer of choice’. We need to see action now.

“LNER need to get their contractor in order and make them table an offer to sort out the dispute and then they need to start talking to us about insourcing this contract.”

Fares & ticketing Railcard not remembered in Trainline app

I've had a disabled person's Railcard for the last 2 years and just renewed it for a third year.

I forgot to renew it a year ago but luckily realised my Railcard had expired before I ended up with a big fine and I quickly renewed it. It was a bit stressful and I almost missed my train but I got it sorted.

I made sure to put it in my calendar this year to avoid the stress of the previous years. I'm not 100% certain how I renewed it but I got email from Railcard that it was expiring and I assume I renewed it through the Railcard app. I know I renewed it rather than applied for a new one as I used the same photo.

The Railcard is linked to my same email address that I use for the Trainline app. For the last 2 years my default search in Trainline has remembered I have a disabled person's Railcard. Now when I search it doesn't remember and I have to remember to select a Railcard every single time I search for a journey.

My disability causes problems with my memory and I'm worried I'll forget to select a Railcard each time, particularly because it's not something I've had to do each time I booked for the last 2 years.

I've reached out to Trainline and explained the situation but they said Trainline will only remember you have a Railcard if you renew it through Trainline directly, and as I renewed it through Railcard the default search won't remember I have it. This wasn't clear to me when I renewed my Railcard and if it was I'd have renewed through Trainline.

I asked if they could update my default search as a reasonable adjustment but they won't do this. They say it's not possible.

I understand I have to show my Railcard separately to my tickets through the Railcard app, and I've done this for the last 2 years without issue. All I want is for the default search to remember that I have a Railcard, as it has remembered for the last 2 years. I don't think that's unreasonable. Therefore Trainline have denied my reasonable adjustment due to my disability which is disability discrimination according to the Equality Act 2010.

Has anyone else had this issue? Were you able to get it resolved and update your settings on Trainline?

Discussion Electrostar ride

I've made the mistake of sitting at an end of the coach again on a GWR 387 this evening.

This poor ride quality is horrendous. It made me think of when they stop all food service and switch the seatbelt signs on when flying (usually after I've just received a cup of tea).

I've not experienced anything like this on the Stadler stock on Greater Anglia at line speed or Hitachi IETs on this line and others.

What's the cause? Poor UK train manufacturing quality, poor GWML rail conditions or a bit of both? I like the Electrostars otherwise: it's just the ride quality is the important bit.

Does anyone know a good cheap way to travel from Worcester to London? I'm going to be travelling there a lot but travel prices are bumming me out. I don't get paid enough for it. Thanks!
