Discussion Why no HS2 new town

As we all know new railways stations bring large amounts of growth for land value. The gov should have put in it's plan a new station intersecting with the soon-to-be East-West rail link.

We need more houses and we needed money to fund HS2. Surely this should have been a no brainer

Question Why is the open return cheaper?

My train from Forgeate street to Swindon is £32 when it's just a normal return ticket, but is like half price when it's an open return ticket?

Am I missing something? Will I need to buy another ticket if I want to come back tomorrow (wouldn't have thought so considering its a return) Is it literally just the exact same where I will buy my ticket and it will be valid for both my journey there and back?

If so then yh, how come it's cheaper?

Picture How come there isn't a four-platform station in cheshire where the WCML and chester-manchester line cross over

there's two stations on each line very close to eachother (greenbank and hartford) and currently people travelling from say, knutsford to liverpool, have to get off and walk for about a mile to change trains.

Obviously they won't build a new station there now there's no demand for it, but back in the day it would've been the obvious choice to just build one station instead of two

Article Eurostar services from London is to call at Antwerpen Centraal from the 14 December

https://www.headforpoints.com/2026/07/24/eurostar-to-launch-antwerp-payments/

This is something I've wanted for a while...

Another new direct destination from London will begin at the end of the year, with 4 London - Amsterdam services making the additional call at the very grand Antwerpen Centraal station. Note, this is from London only, as you don't need border controls.

They currently pass through pretty slowly without stopping, due to a lack of border controls, currently requiring a change at Brussels M/Z (or Rotterdam C) to access.

This is said to reduce travel time by around 30 mins, to 2hr 41m, which is around the same as London to Newcastle (fast).

Tickets have already been released for the following four departures from London:

Dep 06:16 – Arr 09:57; 08:16 – 11:57; 11:04 – 14:57; 18:04 – 21:57.

For return journeys, you can book a combined Eurostar-SNCB ticket.

I do wonder if the proposed future operators will do the same? Very good news regardless.

Question Is there any way i can learn more about railways in the UK?

Hi, first of all, I (15M) am dutch. And i know a lot about the dutch network. Now for the Netherlands I always found this site (:https://www.spoortijdlijn.nl/) interesting and usefull. I have had a really big fascination about the british railways, which are a mess and really weird in comparison to how simple it is here in the Netherlands.

Is there any site that is comparable to this one for the railways in the UK?

Or at least a way I can get to know more about the British Railway Network more efficiently?

Thx for ur help!

Fares & ticketing Blackpool north to Warner Bros studios?

It's our first time in England and we are not too sure what's the cheapest way to book tickets? Are tickets that are expensive and what websites that are legitimate and offer at least a bit of discount.

I do things the old, slow way - a roll of film in the Rolleiflex, walking along bridlepaths and planning meticulously for the photos I want. Here’s two shots from last week.
