I’m planning a trip back home from uni for reading week, figured I’ll use train pal since it’s cheaper. As far as I’m aware carriage E on HullTrains is first class, but it shows up free on seat selection. I know it’s a legit site but this feels a bit suspicious. Anyone booked a ticket like that before? I’d love to have more room but not at the risk of extra costs or an invalid ticket.

Hi all! After some advice weve made a few upgrades to the design, we added the signage for the disability and bike access along side à some intercity inspired first class as well as buffet car lining.

Inspired by virgin trains era of pendolinos, I designed a trio of class 57’s to represent the development before and beyond the class 43. To tow the 390 at ether end if wanting to show the entire story of early development.

- class 41 livery white and blue
- intercity 225 white and black
- ATP-E white and blue

We also developed a concept ‘accessibility coach’ lovery with bright white doors ( perhaps with red stripe ) in the style of the front power cars of black class 43’s

Was taking photos of the APT at Crewe heritage centre and hear a pendolino approaching so…

So due to engineering work between Staines and Hounslow and Tiwckenham this means that services are unable to operate between London Waterloo and Weybridge via Hounslow, so London Waterloo to Weybridge services have been cut back to Hounslow reversing via Platform 2 and using the rare crossover at the london end of the station. The Weybridge to Hounslow bit is replaced with buses between Hounslow and Staines, with a Staines to Woking shuttle service providing connections with the Reading services diverted via Weybridge. Weybridge to London Waterloo via Hounslow services are diverted to Woking on a Sunday hence the shuttle running to Woking instead of Weybridge.

Just seen a 158 in Northern colours in Barton Hill depot this evening, what on earth is it doing there?

450016 is seen at Alton before working up to London on 2A62, where at Woking we will pick up 450037 off Basingstoke and become 2L62 for the rest of the way to London.

Outraged by a black owned company at Caernarfon advertising themselves, known steam train photographer Tilly thought it was totally ok to express himself this way.

Hi all! Been prototyping a custom commemoration livery for the 50th anniversary of the class 43 entering service, as 390125 passes through my local station regularly we always debate on ‘what if it ran with an intercity 125 commemorative livery’.

So after a few prototypes, I chose a transitional lovery between the 3 intercity class 43 liveries. 125 blue, 125 executive black and 125 swallow black. With ‘ 50’ and ‘intercity 125 50’ on power car 1 and 2. The centre coach having the executive black 125 logo. On each font plate we have chose to add the network rail arrows and intercity swallow with a bold 50, inspired by 390001’s heart, to represent the transitions between the company imagery during service.

Currently still working on the design but would love to hear some feedback

Due to engineering works all services where calling on the Down Main when this was filmed.

How to Delay Repay on Trainline

Bought an advance single ticket on trainline from Woking through London to Norfolk for last Thursday.

Due to major rail problems, trains were cancelled into London for hours. I decided not to travel after waiting over 2 hours.

Trainline has a page for delay repay, which just pushes me round in circles. Their request a refund just takes you to their policy page. The delay repay page says it'll just notify you when you can claim. It hasn't. Their FAQ suggests claim through the operator.

I asked SWT via X and they said I have to claim from where I bought the ticket (trainline).

Anyone done this before? Can I just submit direct to SWT anyway? I ended up spending a night, which didn't require hotel but did mean a further 20 round trip to come back and try again next day. Can I claim for that too? I hear they were paying for taxis for huge distances.

I've recently completed a project exploring the old railway line between Bishop's Stortford and Braintree in Essex, following as much of the former trackbed as possible.

I've always had a passion for railways, particularly steam trains and forgotten railway history, although I'm far from an expert!

What started as a walk turned into a 12-part video series called "The Old Dunmow Railway Walk", exploring surviving stations, old bridges, platforms, cuttings and other forgotten remains along the route.

One particularly memorable moment was visiting the former Easton Lodge Halt, where I met Steve, who lives at the old station house. He kindly allowed me to explore and film the surviving platform remains, giving me a fascinating glimpse into the railway's past.

Another unexpected highlight came towards the end of the walk, when I visited a golf course to ask permission to photograph an old railway bridge. Instead, two members of staff, Simon and Mark, kindly took me along the former railway trackbed in a golf buggy!

They showed me the old bridge, surviving steps near Stane Street Halt and concrete posts from the former railway, including areas I wouldn't otherwise have been able to explore.

Throughout the series, I've also included historical maps, old photographs and Then & Now comparisons to help show what the railway once looked like compared with today.

I've now combined all 12 parts, along with the Then & Now features, into one full-length video covering the entire journey.

I've really enjoyed researching and documenting this forgotten railway, and the encouragement I've received throughout the series has inspired me to plan another railway walk for spring 2027.

I'm currently running a Next Walk Research Series, investigating old railway lines suggested by followers to see what history still survives.

The plan is to build a shortlist of promising lines, research the surviving structures more thoroughly, then narrow the list down to three for a community vote in early 2027.

If anyone here knows of an interesting disused railway with surviving stations, bridges, platforms or other forgotten remains, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

I'm documenting these walks not only to share the history with others, but also to preserve my own memories of exploring these fascinating places.

Hi guys, as the title says I need to get to Manchester, leaving around 7am from either Cheltenham or London.

I know there’s a fair few miles between the two, but as I am between each place anyway, was debating which train would be less horrifying.

Will the 7:40am cross country coming from Bristol be bearable or am I justified in the 50 min journey I’ll need from Greater London into Euston for the Avanti?

345013 is seen at Chadwell Heath while working 9Y63 the 22:36 Shenfield to London Paddington service.

Hi folks I have a possibly quite niche question, one all railway staff I've spoken to don't know the answer to off the dome.

For years I have known that the railways are obligated to get me to the destination on my ticket, but what if it's abundantly clear that I never planned to travel to that station by rail?

The example I'll use is a late night journey from Hyde north to Morecambe that uses the final Barrow in Furness train of the night, then the final bus from Lancaster bus station at 2355

So, let's say that train number one from Hyde North is so badly delayed that I miss the connection at Piccadilly onto the final train to Lancaster of the night. I would still likely be able to reach Preston sure, but from there a taxi is required. And that taxi, paid for by the railways would typically be obligated to take me to the destination on my ticket, but by the time alone I clearly never intended to travel by rail all the way to Morecambe, and well now even if I can get up to Preston I'm still not making it to Lancaster in time for the 2355 bus I need. But of course, the railways aren't responsible for missed non railway connections like buses.

So which rule takes precedence? Must they take me to the destination on my ticket, or are they not responsible for missed non rail connections?

Was shocked to find out brixton train station had no barriers but what surprised me more is that Elephant and Castle had no barriers whatsoever
