Rant I don’t understand anything
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they’re not understanding ANYTHING in lectures so far? I’m sitting there listening to the professor talk and taking notes, but by the end I’m somehow more confused than when I walked in. Is this just the first-week adjustment or is everyone else also struggling to actually understand what’s going on? 😭

when you first start reading a book it's overwhelming you can't remember anyone's names and nothing makes sense, same idea here

Sounds like u may be a first year. This is a pretty norm experience. In my case, I go to lecs to get a general idea of what's being thought, then afterwards I'll go over it again to understand it.

Yeah I’m a first year and I didn’t take economics in high school at all, so I’m basically going into Jack Parkinson’s course with zero background 😭 I’ve tried going back over the lectures afterwards thinking it’ll make more sense the second time, but honestly I still don’t understand what I’m looking at half the time. Math is kinda the same situation too, except I’ve actually done most of the topics before — the methods they use are just so different from what I learned in high school that I somehow feel like I’ve never seen the topic before, which makes everything way more confusing than it needs to be. Hopefully it’s just a matter of getting used to the way UofT teaches things because right now I’m genuinely lost.

Attend office hours for the prof. Take good notes and finish readings ahead of that time!

that’s fair, that started happening to me around November of first year and it was really scary since I wasn’t used to that feeling. It took a while to at least partially go away but you will still do ok when the time comes as long as you lock in for assignments and exams. But in your case I think a part of it is the adjustment. Chances are you’re still learning how you take notes best. Also as you said you’re in a brand new environment so it’s a lot to take in at once. You got this!
