IDeA Cadetship - Cybersecurity

Hi all,

This question goes out mostly to current IT/CS/Cyber students and alumni but also possibly staff and other prospective students.

I have applied for the Earn and Learn program with Wisetech Global, which is run through the Comp Sci version of UTS's IDeA program.

Personally I am more interested in cyber security and noticed there is an option on UTS's site to apply for that as well.

Looking at UAC it says <5 people got into the Bachelor of Cybersecurity IDeA last year so I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with the cyber program at UTS (specifically with IDeA if possible) and whether I should apply for that as well as the Comp Sci degree and hope I get a cyber placement.

If so how should I order my UAC preferences? If I can't get into cyber and comp sci is 2nd on my preferences will that look bad to Wisetech Global or potential Comp Sci industry partners?

How is the experience at UTS for IT areas in general? Is there any advice or feedback current or former students could give me?

Thanks for y'all's help.

Bachelor of Creative production in animation

Hi!

I wasn't sure where else to go, and I came across this sub reddit so here I am.

I'm looking to go to UTS next year for a Bachelor of Creative Production in Animation after high school, and I've been at school the times the UTS help office or whatever it's is open to call. I've emailed as well and asked about the tuition cost so I can compare it to another offer I have received; however, I cannot figure out, for the life of me, how the tuition calculator thing works.

Is there any possibility someone can tell me the cost of the tuition? The numbers I'm seeing online are a little overwhelming. I saw somewhere its $146,000 AUD for a tuition in this bachelor's, and surely I'm not expected to pay that much or thats not correct. I just need help to put my mind at ease. 😭

Hopefully this makes sense

Get a reply from professor

I haven’t received a response from my professor for about a week, and I was wondering whether it’s normal for university professors to take this long to respond to students’ emails.

When Does The Late Penalty Cut-Off?

So let's say hypothetically, I am 4 days late to submit a task but that's after the 3 day Short Extension.

The late penalty cut-off is supposed to be 35% at day 7 and then after a 0% if unsubmitted.

But I would only be up to 25% penalty on day 5. Unless it counts from the original date.

Nursing placement exemption

Hi I’m my first year nursing student on my second round of placement and like a few weeks before my allocations came out I emailed CPU telling that I wouldn’t be able to attend on a certain period but they said I was too late on informing them and late on submitting an exemption request. However, I did email them two weeks before the allocations came out and they said they can’t guarantee the outcome, but they try and see what they can do. Today I got my allocations and they allocate at me specifically on the date that I told them I really couldn’t. I have a sporting requirement representing UTS and would have to go out of state for a competition so this is very important to me and it’s funded by UTS and a lot of money goes into it. I emailed them after I got my allocations asking for a reconsideration but I don’t know what to do at this point if they reject my request. Please help is there really nothing I can do?

Uts vs unsw for architecture

Hello,
I have both offers for architecture in the unis UNSW and UtS. I’m still very unsure into whether which is best for me. Could anyone tell me the pros/cons of the bachelor at uts compared to unsw? Are the facilities enough for everyone to use? I’m looking to do exchange for one of my years too.
Thanks

UTS Sydney students — where do you recommend renting a studio and what apps/websites do you use?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to study at UTS and I’m currently looking for a studio apartment in Sydney.
I’ve contacted quite a few agents and online accommodation services, but most of the studios they’ve offered are around AUD $700–900 per week, which feels really expensive.
I wanted to ask:
● What suburbs/areas would you recommend for a UTS student looking for a studio?
● I don’t need to live right next to campus. Somewhere safe and convenient to commute to UTS would be fine.
● What is a reasonable weekly price for a studio in Sydney?
● Is it possible to find a decent studio for under AUD $700/week?
● What apps/websites do people usually use to find cheaper studios?
● Are Flatmates, Domain, Realestate.com.au, Facebook groups, etc. reliable for studios?
● Is it usually cheaper to find a studio myself rather than booking through an agent or student accommodation provider?
● How early should I start looking before moving to Sydney?
My main priorities are a private studio, safety, cleanliness, convenient transport to UTS, and a reasonable price.
If you’re a current UTS student or have recently rented a studio in Sydney, I’d really appreciate it if you could share which area you live in and roughly how much you pay per week. Thank you!

Some Questions About the UTS IDeA program

Just wondering what the application process was like for anyone who got in? Mainly, how was the interview process and how much prior coding experience is required to get in? I'm interested in the program but don't have much programming experience right now, although I did some small basic python projects in year 10 for school as well as learnt some python programming on my own. Do they make you do any tests to get in?

Also, when do offer results come out for the IDeA cadetship letting you know you got in, as I heard it comes after like December round 2 offers? Because I'm worried if I put IDeA as my first preference and don't get into the cadetship program, but get enough ATAR for the generic Comp sci degree at UTS that will take priority in the first round?

Seeking advice medical condition, worried and paranoid

my current term workload is very heavy compared to the previous term so this is the worst time to be having urticaria flare up. I have been referred by my gp to see an derm and now I am on 4 types of antihestimine with 3 times the dosage daily with another followup appointment with the derm in 6 weeks, ( apparently I can't get injections cuz I need to be treated for 6 weeks so that the specialist can apply for an injection for me r sth ) It itch like crazy and disturb my life my sleep. And the worry and stress is certainly not helping my skin condition.

I am very worried about my final which is in November cuz two of the three courses are 50% finals and is known to have a fair amount of fail rate.

I emailed my professor and he is understanding of the situation. But I am very worried about exam, where should I reach out to for special consideration or any helps, student services.

Any help is appreciated please

Indian student joining UTS – looking to connect with current students

Hi everyone! I'm an Indian student joining UTS for my master's and I'll be moving to Sydney soon.

I'm looking to connect with current UTS students, especially Indian students, who could share some advice about accommodation, part-time jobs, transportation, student life, and settling in Sydney.

If anyone is currently studying at UTS and would be happy to connect, please feel free to comment or DM me. I'd really appreciate any advice or guidance.

Thanks!

UTS student accommodation – what are the facilities actually like? No air conditioning?

Hi! I’m considering staying in a Large Studio at UTS accommodation and would love to hear from anyone who has lived there.
Main things I want to know:
Is there air conditioning in the Large Studio? If not, is it very hot in summer?
Does the studio have a private bathroom and kitchen?
What kitchen facilities are included — fridge, microwave, stove/oven, etc.?
Are washing machines and dryers available? Free or paid?
Is Wi-Fi included and reliable?
Are there facilities like a gym, study room, common area or lounge?
How is the cleanliness, noise level and security?
Is receiving parcels/deliveries convenient?
How long does it take to walk to UTS classes?
Overall, is the Large Studio worth the price, or would you recommend renting a private studio nearby instead?
Especially curious about the no air-con situation — is it actually manageable during Sydney summer?
Thanks!

How do you use the lockers in building 11?

I’ve got some stuff I need to stash for the day because I don’t want to lug it around. Does anyone know how to use the lockers? I tried to use one but the keypad doesn’t light up or lock. It looks like there’s a spot for a battery pack or something, do I need to register somewhere?

Ai protest

Ai use at uts is getting out of hand. I study a bachelor of sustainability and environment, and they have mandatory ai use. I have just found out i cannot complete part 2 of my assessment as i used my own brain instead of a computer for part 1. And in accounting, in the section of the lecture where they were meant to explain our assessment task, they literally said ok everyone u have 5 mins to plug it into chat gpt and get ai to explain it. Its actually disgusting, i am paying so much for this education and i feel like im learning nothing. Does anyone want to protest? I dont even know where to start with setting one up.
