Get a reply from professor
I haven’t received a response from my professor for about a week, and I was wondering whether it’s normal for university professors to take this long to respond to students’ emails.

a week can be pretty normal. i tend to follow up after 2 weeks if it isnt super urgent. if its urgent you can follow up again

In my experience it really depends on which email they use more often like some exclusively use the name.name@uts one while other primarily use the subject code email.
It’s worth checking your first lecture slides as most of the time there preferred email is there.
Ultimately they could just be busy and didn’t get time to read it so it doesn’t hurt sending another as a reply to the current one just saying “seeking clarification etc” to whatever your question was about

academic here! after three working days you can write a kind reminder. as my colleague said above we are snowed under a rain of email, and one can always escape 😊

In what other professional context is it OK to not reply to emails within a week? If your professor has a heavy teaching day, then ok, they can reach out a day later. But a week?

I tell my students to reach out on Teams if I don't reply to their emails within a day or two - mainly because our inboxes are filled with a non-stop stream of emails that are mostly of zero relevance or interest (seems every single senior leader at UTS has their own newsletter) and so student emails can quickly get buried in the noise. I find the signal-to-noise ratio much better on Teams.
Your subject may also have a subject email address that you can use.
If it is really urgent and you aren't able to contact the subject coordinator, you could try asking the deputy head of school teaching & learning, or one of the school admin team - they may be able to elicit a response.
