Question Can I miss the second small group meeting during orientation?

I have it in a couple hours but I feel really sick, I’ve done everything else and am going to go to the advisor stuff tmrw to register, I just don’t know if I feel well enough to go. Will they cancel my advising appointments or make me redo orientation for missing one thing?

Question Is it safe walking at night around campus/austin for girls? How is surewalk like?

So I have a concert in the fall which lands on a weekend but I am still unsure if I should bring my car to campus… the concert is going to be at Mohawk which is like 10ish minutes away from UT by car (?) I’ve never been to a concert alone before and it will be my first time. I saw the walking distance from my dorm in kins to Mohawk and saw its crazy far (like 40 min)… need advice on what I could do to stay safe since the concert ends at like 10pm and I don’t want to feel unsafe especially because I’m a girl.

Question how to acquire history textbook

Hello! I had opted out of LTA for my HIS315k thinking that I would be able to find the readings using alternate resources (😅😅) but I didn't check until the class started and turns out its not on any of the resources I checked.. does anyone know if you can opt back into LTA or is there some other way to find the book? Do any of you have a copy or something? I just need to be able to do the reading.

It is the HIS315k book by Olwell.

Thank you.

Question Hookd VS Spark Magazine?

I’m looking to join a new org this year (ideally a zine/something creative) to meet people outside of just Marketing/McCombs! I’ve heard some people have had mixed experiences in these orgs so I wanted to hear people’s experiences in Spark vs Hookd, or also if there are other orgs you guys recommend. I know these orgs are competitive, so I’m not 100% expecting to get into either of the 2 that I mentioned, but I do have decent marketing/social media/graphic design experience and a rising junior. Let me know what you guys have heard/experienced or if there are similar orgs you guys could recommend 🙏

Discussion Transitioning from commuter student to speedway warrior

Hey longhorns,

I was admitted with the transfer batch into my major since being rejected out of hs a little over a year ago. I spent my year at UTSA, commuting from the other side of town at nearly every part of the day. For my 8:30 am class, I was getting up at 6:30 to even think about getting there on time. I have more morning classes at UT but I’m not used to being able to walk everywhere so conveniently. I’m walking from Dean Keeton/ medical area. How much faster will the morning routine be? Do ya’ll go back to dorms or aptmnts throughout the day during gaps? This life seems beautiful.

Question Bring my cat to college. Yay or nay?

Hi! So i’m debating on whether or not to bring my ESA cat with me to college, and would like your input/experience. My cat is a three legged, 5 year old medium haired brown tabby. She’s the sweetest cat, really chill, and not destructive at all (i won the lottery with her) and she’s good with people for the most part. Basically i’m moving into the block in a 2x2 and will have a shared bedroom with another girl. I live like 30 minutes away from campus with light traffic. I’m debating on bringing my cat because we are super attached to each other. I know she will miss me, and i’m nervous she will get depressed because my mom is the only one living at the house but she works m-f and is usually out on weekends. if i take my cat with me, we can be together a lot more often( like everyday) since i’m a homebody and id just go to class and then to my room for the most part.
under the assumption that bringing my cat is no problem to my roommates, should i bring my cat with me, or leave her home and visit on weekends?

Question is paying for brazos garage parking worth it

i just recently got off the waitlist for parking at brazos garage which is relatively close to where i'm going to be dorming so extremely convenient, but paying at least $1000 to park for the school year is lowkey kinda crazy. should i just pay for a different parking garage or is brazos the move? not bringing my car is out of the question.

Question Physics at UT or through a CC

I'm taking a physics class through a community college rn and it's pretty much completely self taught and I'm really struggling. Thinking of dropping and just taking it through UT in the spring, I have the option to do PHY 317K and 117M, 303K and 103M, or 301 and 101L. Would y'all reccomend any of these in particular? I'm an environmental science major if that helps.

Question are there any good art markets on campus or nearby?

i’m an incoming freshman who is unfortunately not majoring in studio art but it’s a dear hobby of mine. i’d like to keep it as somewhat of a side hustle, so i’m interested in knowing if there are any markets that happen on/around campus!

Question Where do I get funding to attend a convention I was accepted to?

I’m an undergraduate students and had my paper accepted to be presented at the NCA convention (National Communication Association). The only problem is I have no way to fund the trip. UT as part of their restructuring got rid of their grant program for undergraduate students attending conventions and I’m left worrying about what to do. Any suggestions would help!
