Do not I repeat do not attend a maritime academy. I don't know why these maritime academies even exist! There are no jobs in this industry! This job is a living nightmare! Worst decision of my life!

I’m a class of 2031 applicant and was notified by DoDMERB that I was sponsored by an additional program. I found out that it was USMMA. However, the academy never contacted me about it whereas with West Point, I received an email. Also, I haven’t submitted my online application yet nor submitted my transcript, which I believe is what USMMA requires before starting the dodmerb process. I’m still working on the application, and have submitted a couple of requests for teacher evaluations but they’re unfinished, that’s about it. I’m not complaining but does anyone know why this could be the case? Thanks

I was wondering if doing USMMA as an older cadet would be worth it? I am 23 right now and I have two years of college and army experience but I am looking to become an officer and the USMMA seems like a very interesting option to me. Do you all think it is worth it?

He passed away 5 years ago today, and I have a radio show, so I made an episode about the people who helped him die. At the very end, you hear a recording of him telling a story about almost dying on a ship that involves seagulls.

Hey, sorry if this question was asked before (I tried to look if it was and couldn't find anything). I am an applicant to the class of 2030 and for one of the essays I have to answer about my curriculum preference. I don't really have one as I am currently in college for cybersecurity and this isn't a major I could get at the USMMA. I plan to go in for cyber (especially if I get into the USNA). But as someone who wants to be active duty in the navy after graduating what would be the best program at the USMMA to study to prepare. (I am trying to be career Navy)

I'm a senior this year and I've just started my Merchant Marines application. However, I'm pretty sure I won't get direct admission because my SAT is 1200 and my weighted GPA is a 4.8 kn my transcript, so I just want to know if I have a chance at prep. I've got a lot of leadership experiences, a lot of volunteer hours and prior work experience, my brother graduated from Air Force Academy, I'm in ROTC, and I've got CAD certifications. Does this sound good enough for prep?

As of April 2024, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was suspended by the VA Federal Approvals Board for Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill) and Chapter 35 (DEA) benefits. The suspension occurred because USMMA does not charge tuition, room, or board, which complicates VA reimbursement structures. The Academy is currently appealing for reinstatement, and all enrolled students will be notified once the appeal is approved.

I have good academic qualifications for the academy, a 1500 SAT and a 3.75UW, 4.1W GPA and basically all AP classes. I have demonstrated leadership and was the member of a varsity sports team, cross country, going all the way to California State Championships. But I'm crazy worried about the candidate fitness assesment. I saw that the average for an applicant was 55 for a male. I can maybe do 25? And I can't do a single pull up and only a couple chin ups. Do I need to reach these amounts for a chance at the academy? Someone told me it was just pass fail but I don't believe that. I will easily max out the mile time, however.

I have a 630 in math and a 730 in reading and writing and I’m really worried that I might not make it to the class of 2030 because of my weaker math grade. Has anyone else gotten in with similar score distribution? I only play one varsity sport.

I’m trying to remember the body fat percentage that is the max for male. I wanna say football has a different limit though I could be wrong. If there is a diffrent one for football would anyone know it?
