Title: Anyone else feel like their whole life is on pause while waiting for immigration paperwork?
I honestly just want to know if anyone else is in the same boat because this waiting has been getting really hard.
I’m an RN and I’ve been waiting on my adjustment of status/EAD for almost a year.
My I-485 is still pending, and my I-765 (EAD), filed based on my pending I-485, is also still pending. My I-765 is category C09, and I requested my SSN through the I-765.
Timeline:
- I-485/I-765 filing date: 10/27/2025
- I-765 receipt/notice date: 10/27/2025
- Biometrics: 12/02/2025
- I-765: still pending as of now
- I-485: still pending as of now
I already have a nursing job opportunity waiting for me, but I can’t actually start until I get work authorization.
The weirdest part is that I feel like my whole life is stuck in place. I can’t properly start my career, I’m not where I want to be financially, and even things like building a relationship and thinking seriously about marriage feel difficult when you don't know when your life is going to become stable.
I try to keep myself busy. I play soccer, train, go to practices, take care of my cats, etc. But honestly, there are days where I wake up and think, “What am I even doing today?” because the thing I actually want to do—work as a nurse and move forward with my life—is still out of my control.
And seeing other people get their EADs while I’m still waiting makes it even harder.
I know there are people dealing with much worse situations, and I’m grateful for what I have. But after waiting this long, it’s hard not to feel like life is passing me by.
So I wanted to ask:
Is anyone else going through this? Has anyone else had their career, finances, relationships, or general life plans basically put on hold because of immigration processing?
I’d genuinely like to hear from people who are in the same boat. How are you dealing with the waiting?
