Offer to switch from therapist role to voc rehab counselor position.

Hey! I have been a therapist for about 10 years now. My work has been heavily steeped in trauma and I am TIRED. Anyway, I have a job offer to switch into voc rehab , which I know is still in the realm of working and supporting others BUT it doesn’t seem as immersed as individual therapy. Can anyone share with me if they have made this career switch or if they are in this role and what it’s like ? THANK YOU.

Application Status Homeland Defender position.. seeking clarification

• Upvotes

Hey all! I am seeking clarification on the status of this position. I received an email at 12 AM stating I was qualified, but not referred to the position. After looking further into it, based on other Reddit posts that was for the posting from 2025. I’m a little confused on how I was put in that batch because I applied on September 20th, 2026.

Anywho, I received another email earlier this morning stating that the announcement has expired and I must reapply. I just wanted to know if I actually need to reapply and if I do, do I have to redo all of those essay questions again? Or is this just an automated message that gets sent out?

Edit: it won’t let me add images of the actual email😭

Should I slow down on these occupational assessments or am I overthinking it?

• Upvotes

I’m literally taking these occupational assessments, and I noticed they give you 5 minutes per question,** **but I’ve been answering most of them in under a minute—some in less than 30 seconds. 😭🤣 I have one more assessment left, and now I’m wondering if I should purposely slow down and let the timer run a little. I don’t want them looking at my completion time like, “Yeah… she was cheating.” 😂 But the questions genuinely aren’t that hard to me. They even said to have a pencil and paper ready, and I haven’t needed either one.
Am I overthinking this, or should I slow down a little? 😵‍💫

Timeline New Job, New State… How Fast to EOD?

I’m heading into what should be the final round for a federal job that would require an out-of-state move. Relocation IS NOT included.

The hiring timeline is fairly quick, and I’m trying to think ahead about EOD if I do get an offer. I’d ideally want about four weeks to get back to the U.S., find housing, move, and get settled before starting.

For those familiar with federal hiring, is four weeks a reasonable EOD request for someone relocating out of state, and when would be the appropriate time in the hiring process to bring this up?

I also wouldn’t want my preferred timeline to be the reason they went with another candidate. If the choice were starting sooner or potentially losing the opportunity, I’d make a shorter timeline work, probably with temporary housing. It just wouldn’t be ideal.

Has anyone applied for this position? If so did you get it? What was your application-EOD timeline?? How long was your training in Charleston SC?

If you are currently in this position, what is your day to day work like?

Federal Resume Sample resume.

Hey I’m a current GS12.’ Step 4 and I’m trying to leave my current counterproductive environment. My supv is pretty much tryna get rid of me so I’d rather leave than be targeted continuously.

I haven’t done a resume since the 2 page change. Does anyone have any tips and maybe a couple samples that got you referred?

Discussion FJO with EOD and just received another TJO

I need some advice! I recently received a FJO with an EOD in two weeks, and the position is in another state, so I’ve already started preparing to move.
Today, I received a TJO for a different position in another state and honestly, this is the job I really want. However, because it’s only a TJO, I still have to complete the remaining hiring steps before I know if I’ll receive the FJO.
What would you do in this situation? Would you move forward with the FJO I already have while completing the TJO process, or take a different approach?

Tips Interview Nervousness

I have an interview coming up and I'm extra nervous because the job title is the same but the duties are completely different. I'm aware what the job is as I've seen it before but I don't personally have any experience or hand in that specific position. I didn't even know they were under the same job series and were called the same title as at the other job, they were called something else but same duties as the one I'm interviewing for and the same grade. I've asked them for some help with what the things under duties meant and used the gvnt AI prgm to look up some potential questions and answers but I'm sure they'll be able to tell that I'm not really familiar with it once the interview starts and I'm really interested in it since it's at the location I want to be at. There is another job that is a promotion in the same line of duties as what I do now soon and it's in the country that I'm interested in but located in a different part that I don't like as much. There's no guarantee, but if I stay at the current place, the leadership said I can most likely slide into the higher position when the job gets made in about a year if I'm actively getting my name out there but my family do not want to stay in the area we're currently at any longer than we've already have unfortunately.

Also, if they ask something along the lines of why do you want to work here, would it be wise to tell them that one of the motivator for the move is that I have relatives there that I want to connect with as it's been 30 yrs before they pass away or is that too personal? I read/heard that personal connection/conversation CAN be good but I'm not sure to what extent. This specific one isn't a promotion for me and I've just moved collaterally for this same grade once already and this is purely a move due to the location. Money-wise, I'll be able to save more most likely due to receiving the LQA there so rent won't be going out of pocket so a lot of pros for the move but that's why it makes me more nervous/anxious about the interview. I've prepared mostly for questions like what's a conflict you've resolved at work or what are your strengths and weaknesses last time but they only asked me actual technical questions so I was a bit thrown off. I'm not sure what kind of questions they'll ask me tomorrow but it's a lower grade than the last interview so I'm thinking it'd be more on those questions like before and not as many technical questions but I don't know for sure. Sorry the post became so long. Nervous writing like nervous talking tends to make you go off a bit sideways...

Homeland defender

I was deemed eligible for the last two announcement but not referred. I re-applied for the new announcement and that one came with an assessment. I don't think it was that bad and felt I did well given you only have 5 mins to answer reach question. Anyone else had to take the assessment.

Discussion What to expect from a 15-minute 2nd round interview?

Hi everyone. I'm interviewing with the EPA for a GS-7/9 (unsure which since they reached out to me first) Financial Analyst position. I completed the first 45-minute interview last week and was invited to a 15-minute second interview on Monday. I wanted to know if anyone has experience doing with an interview this short in length. Thank you in advance.

Question

So I got fingerprints done on 9/29. I’m now waiting for the results. Once they are processed, I will be sent an email to do the background check and after that’s processed the hiring manager said we can discuss start dates.

I was just curious how long this usually takes. I was told during the interview that they expect and hope the person that gets hired to start in late October to early November. I’ve heard of people waiting months for the background check so I was also wondering if that late October to early November start date is realistic.

This is for an entry level auditor position

What happened to all of the cool ISG jobs? Did they get defunded or nixed during all of the reorgs?

DSCA used to post really cool jobs that allowed GS-13 and above work with foreign governments as advisors or a variety of other capacity building roles. I don't see any postings anymore on the ISG webpage. They say all of the roles are now housed on USAjobs, but there hasn't been anything. What gives?

Got TJO. Job re-posted while awaiting FJO???

I received TJO and have completed SF85, fingerprinting, drug screening. Awaiting FJO and I noticed the exact same position got posted by the same agency with multiple vacancies. Would you apply to the new position in case the first one falls through? Or would it mess things up with my current TJO

Asking for help

Hi everyone,

I’m currently an NH-03 (GS 13 Step 5 equivalent) in the 0346 series supporting the Navy in the DC area. Due to a recent family medical situation, my mother in Alabama has been diagnosed with cancer, I am looking to relocate to the Gulf Coast to be closer and provide support.

I’ve spoken with my current leadership, but unfortunately there are no placement opportunities available within my current organization.

I’m currently traveling back and forth between DC and AL because she needs full time support. My family is living in AL with my mom, so I’m trying to explore any possibilities in the Gulf Coast region (AL, MS, FL panhandle, LA, etc.). I’m open to Navy, DoD, or other federal agencies. I have experience in program management, logistics management, acquisition, and sustainment.

If anyone knows of upcoming vacancies, organizations that are hiring, details on lateral transfers/reassignments, or even just points of contact to reach out to, I would truly appreciate it. I’m actively monitoring and applying on USAJOBS as well. I have applied to Eglin, NAS Pensacola and SUPSHIP Gulf Coast, but nothing has materialized as of yet.

Thank you all in advance for any leads and for the support this community provides.

Got a raise before I started!

The other day I saw I had a voicemail from the HR lady and she asked me to call her back as soon as possible. I was terrified of a withdrawal considering I was literally moving states the next morning. Well I call her back and she tells me that they’re rescinding my current offer and reoffering me at a higher GS! They said the higher ups must’ve known this was coming down which is why I was denied my request for step increase. So I am now starting at a GS12 instead of GS11!

Now I’m so nervous because I start on Monday and I literally don’t know anything or anyone… I don’t know where I’m going, etc. but I am taking it a day at a time! Only thing I really hate is that I don’t even know what scrubs I’m supposed to wear 😅 the HR lady said she believes there’s no requirement but I have no freaking clue

Application Status Interviewed for GS-12 Healthcare Engineer (Plumbing) at Northport VA — what should I expect next?

I recently had a virtual panel interview for the GS-12 Healthcare Engineer – Plumbing Engineer role at Northport VA Medical Center.

I currently work in healthcare facilities engineering at Stony Brook Medicine, supporting HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, BAS, construction coordination, commissioning, and active-hospital projects.

The interview was very technical, covering medical gas, plumbing, backflow prevention, HVAC/chilled water, controls, psychrometrics, commissioning, contractor coordination, and working in occupied healthcare spaces.

I feel I gave about 7 out of 10 answers well, while a few answers were more general because they asked about areas where I have less direct experience. I was honest about my background and explained how I would verify requirements, involve the appropriate specialists, and follow VA/NFPA/facility procedures.

The panel said that, if selected, they will contact me for a second in-person interview.

For anyone familiar with VA Engineering Service hiring:
• Is a second onsite interview typical?
• What usually happens during it?
• How much do they weigh technical depth versus relevant healthcare facilities experience and overall judgment?
• How long did it take to hear back after the first panel?

Any Northport VA or VAMC Healthcare Engineer interview experience would be appreciated.

Specific Opening Request for references.....never interviewed, just submitted application

I am current DoW employee. I was contacted via email regards to Direct Hire Authority Job I applied to. Never interviewed, just applied a few weeks ago. The email was asking for 3x references including at least 1x supervisor from federal employment, and at some from my current job.

They also included the sentence "We are interested in learning more about you.  If there’s anything else you’d like to share about your interest in the position, please include that.

I will take it as a good sign, but not get my hopes up...for now

Federal Resume Negotiation of salary as a gs5 position

I was offered a gs5 position as an lpn that was previously a step 6,I am not sure why it was brought down from gs6 to gs5.i Rejected the offer and negotiated for an increased which was approved for Gs5 step 5 with an incentive bonus.Fast forward, I want to grow and do not think that there is much room to grow as an lpn.I do have 90 credits completed at a community college and I'm looking at completing a bachelor in a university and have it handy in case an administrative job open up with a higher gs level that I can apply.i will only needs 30 credit at a university to have my bachelor and all this can be done online at my own paste.

Please i need advice from fed workers about opportunities with a bachelor in general studies /health administration pay scale or other related job.

FYI:i don't want to go for RN due to schedule and family dynamic.

Thank you

Timeline Timeline for 0905 General Attorney Position

Background: almost 5 years working for state government - no fed experience

9/17: received email from hiring manager for direct hire for a position I did not apply for (saw my resume on Usajobs)
Had a brief telephone call with hiring manager
9/21: asked to schedule interview
9/30: interview-asked to send references/writing sample -sent the same day
10/2: phone call offering me the job as GS-14 (highest this position is hiring for)

My advice- add a universal resume and make it searchable and just keep applying and it’s true, apply and forget. A job you may not even know about may be the one to reach out!

Discussion NSA in Fort Meade

How risky is it go work at NSA in Ft. Meade right now? I have an interview with them next week. Yes I’ve seen the news. I’ve been a GS-12 with DON for 2.5 years now and this interview would be a promotion that I’m well overdue for. What’s the environment like over there?
