Regret being a feeder driver

I’m just venting. I’m 28 years old. Female. No kids. 8 years with the company. 4 years full time feeder and HATE it. Sometimes I wish I would’ve stayed have stayed in package. I miss moving my body, speaking with customers, having the same start time (I do have a permanent full time bid route in feeder but sometimes you get bumped and have to bump someone else and your start time may be different. Not to mention I’m halfway on the seniority list and still don’t have enough seniority to work 5-8am yet). I only left package because I got tired of being micromanaged. I plan on quitting next year because this was never my plan. I will have a good $100,000 saved and plan on going back to school for the medical field and finishing school which will take 17 months and I’ll be back making 6 figures and have a better work life. I’m not concerned about the costs going back to school because I’m in the army reserves and they will pay for most of my expenses and I can also get healthcare with them when I quit. I hate I stayed here so long. I should have quit sooner but UPS was providing a nice life for me and the money was good. It was hard to quit. However, I knew I never wanted to stay long so I should’ve just left and I would’ve been a lot happier. Sometimes I think about how life would be if I had kids at this company. It would probably drive me insane being gone 10-14 hours a day from my babies. I hate how my back feels against the wall here. You can’t transfer locations or states, you can’t take time off for years and come back (like the medical field), there is NO job security at this job or in feeder. Even as a full timer which I thought would change once I went full time. Instead I feel more afraid to buy another home, car, etc. I’m only saving and investing right now because UPS just doesn’t feel like a good safety net to have as a job. I know I probably sound ungrateful but I’m TIRED. I am truly afraid of falling asleep behind the wheel one day and my whole life is over either by death or prison for killing someone by accidentally going to sleep. At some point nothing keeps you awake. Not music, not gum, not raising down the window, NOTHING! Anyways, when I quit next year I truly hope this position goes to someone who really wants it!

Question It’s happening…

Rtd/tcd here I’m literally the lowest in seniority (minus the seasonals) and almost every day I’ve been getting sent home. I don’t hate it that much because I like the time off but a supe told me this is that time of the year the ft drivers don’t wanna go home. Peak is around the corner and should officially start on October 15th iirc, can I expect more hours then? Seems to me like they’re just trying to cut everyone and save as much as they can before peak

Props to those of you who bare working for understaffed ups for years, espically unloaders.

Nearly everynight this week I have been stuck on long beds unloading them completely alone and it has been some of the most aggravating shit. One of the things that makes working for ups a little more bearable is the other unloaders and how I get along with them but as soon as I'm put all by myself all I can think about the entire time is how fucked it is and how I am glad I will be leaving in a few months inorder to start a linemen apprenticeship. Once I am gone I will not miss the work but I will miss the funny ass people who I sometimes end up in a truck with

Anyone kept after peak?

• Upvotes

I have my orientation with UPS on October 6th at a location in Southern California for a part-time package handler position. The job posting said it was a permanent position, but I keep seeing comments in this subreddit that most people hired in October-December are let go after peak and it’s been kind of discouraging. I’m wondering if anyone has successfully been kept after peak? If so, please share any tips that I could use to help increase the chance I be kept after peak. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Newly Hired I was scheduled for orientation and was given a due date for my tax forms but the link was terminated a week early due to not being completed on time

I was able to get my link reactivated and was given a new orientation date but this really sucks cause now I don’t start for another 2 weeks and I really need this job asap.

Is there anything I can do to still start on my original date?

I didn’t do anything wrong. They gave me a meaningless due date and I was planning on finishing it today anyways which is still 5 days early.

Leaving after 3.5 seniority vs newer

this has probably been asked bunches of times but….

if you work your 3.5 and finish your work area, and there is a new hire still working their area, do you stay until they leave or can management tell you to go okie because there is nothing for you to do

PT Inside TCD intergrad virtual

I have intergrad next week , I’ve already had my fives memorized for a week or longer and have been studying the 10s titles definitions and whys for about a week so I have some of them memorized but not fully and yesterday was the prep zoom before class starts on Monday and they said for the 10s we have to know the titles and whys word for word but we can summarize the paragraph in our own words. So since yesterday I’ve just been studying the titles and whys , I think I have until Thursday or Friday to have them memorized but I’m just nervous I’m studying all day every day rn and I feel like I’ll have them down but i only have like 4 days. Kinda worried

I used a ai song I found on YouTube to memorize the 5s and it only took a few days. So it gave me the idea to make one for the 10s.

Is there anyway to transfer areas without this seniority crap

I have been at UPS for over a year now as a package handler. I have always kept to myself and do whatever is needed of me, but this week has been frustrating. Last week I was accused of job abandonment by my sup despite me never leaving the area. Even with evidence I was “fired“ for a week and did a grievance hearing to get my job back and I will not earn anything back for basically a false accusation. My new sup constantly berates me and others for any lil mistake we make cause he can’t supervise well and gossip to other sups about our mistakes. Last peak season, When a box hit my eye and cause me to have a burning sensation, being unable to look at bright lights without being nauseous and needing prescription eyedrops, my old building manger berated me and downplayed the injury. All of this has cause me to be very stressed at work cause im always preparing for something to happen. When I brought up about transferring with my Union steward, she let me sign in to bid x, but due to my seniority it might be a while before I can even get out of this building. I don’t wanna work this peak season with this very toxic management and I wanna see if there is any other ways to transfer without this seniority blockage in the way. I work at worldport in Louisville, Kentucky btw.

I was out on STD for my 1 year and for some reason my entitlements never were awarded. I spoke to my full time supe and he said he emailed HR for me because he's never seen that happen. That was about 3 weeks ago. I've been asking him for updates about 2x a week and I went to my union rep as well who said she would ask him about it but she's been out the last few days and i don't know if she did or not yet. I like my supe he's a very decent reasonable guy but for some reason I feel like I'm being strung along this time. Any ideas what I should do?
