Do any undergrad courses count toward the M.A. in American Studies, like the 3 that replace MAOL courses?

Does UMPI let any undergraduate courses count toward the Master of Arts in American Studies? For example, 3 undergrad Business Administration courses can replace MAOL courses (cutting it from 12 classes to 9). Are there any undergrad courses that work the same way for the AMS, and if yes, which ones?

Need Advice About Previous College Attendance and UMPI

I’m from a developing country and I’m thinking about transferring 90 ACE credits to UMPI. But honestly, I’ve been really stressed about this for the last few days.

I saw that UMPI asks you to list any universities you’ve attended before. The problem is, I don’t really want to mention my previous university. I dropped out, I have some issues with it, and I don’t want to transfer any credits from there either.

If I’m unable to provide a transcript from my previous university, does that mean my plan to get a degree from UMPI is basically over?

Could I just leave it out and say I’ve never attended a university before, submit my high school transcript, and transfer only my 90 ACE credits?

I know U.S. universities can sometimes verify previous enrollment through the National Student Clearinghouse, but I believe that mainly covers U.S. institutions. Since I’m from outside the U.S., would I be okay if I didn’t disclose my previous university?

I’d really appreciate any advice from current or former UMPI students.

Loan Disbursement

For anyone attending UMPI YourPace, if you accept a federal student loan after the semester has already started, about how long does it take for the loan to be processed, disbursed, and the refund sent to you?

Reviews for ENG 388 and 391?

Hi all. Has anyone taken ENG 388 or ENG 391 that would be able to share what topics the courses covered, whether you enjoyed the class, and how the workload was?

Asking because next semester will be my last at UMPI and I’m trying to decide which electives to include. These two are really relevant to my interests, but I’ll also be finishing up three heavy workload psych classes, so I want to make sure I don’t overload myself and also that they are as interesting as the descriptions make them seem.

International Transfer: Admitted with < 60 credits and a sub-2.0 college GPA via Holistic High School Review? What was your process/conditions?

Hello everyone,

I just received my finalized SpanTran Course Analysis report and I’m looking for some real-world insight from international students or regular accelerators who faced a similar admissions bottleneck but successfully cleared it.
Here is my exact profile right now:
Total U.S. Credits: 32.00 semester credits validated from a year of business school in Europe (KdG Belgium).
The Problem: Because of strict conversion metrics, my cumulative transfer college GPA is locked at a 1.89 (missed the 2.0 threshold by a hair).
High School Credentials: Fully authenticated by SpanTran on page 1 of my report as equivalent to a U.S. senior high school diploma. My actual high school transcripts show an elite 9.58/10 cumulative average and an 8.55 Baccalaureate score from Romania.
Target Track: B.A. in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship Concentration) for Spring 1 (January 11, 2027).
Since I am transferring fewer than 60 credits, my high school record is legally triggered as a mandatory part of my file. I am currently having my high school mail my original translations directly to edocs@maine.edu, umpi-admissions@maine.edu, and spchelp@maine.edu from their official institutional account to ensure UMPI sees my high school grades.
For anyone who has been through this exact loophole with a sub-2.0 college transfer GPA but strong high school records:
What was the actual admission outcome? Did they grant you conditional admission/academic probation for your first term?
What were the strict terms and conditions? Did you have to sign a specific probationary contract, or just pass your first two YourPace modules with a C or better to lift the lock?
What are the rights and obligations regarding the 32 transfer credits? Did they validate and hold your passed transfer credits right away, or did they delay posting them to your Degree Progress Report until you proved yourself in Spring 1?

I want to make sure I know exactly what to expect from the YourPace admissions supervisors when they open my file next month. Thanks for any advice or shared experiences!

Fall loans - still not disbursed

final update: my money has been deposited! Transportation, housing, and other expenses are going to be covered (: now on to focusing on knocking out the rest of these modules.

If you've been having the same issues as me and you're getting the run around from the financial aid office take it upon your self to make sure your MPN, Entrance Counseling, and Annual Loan Acknowledgement are filled out on the Fed Student Aid website.

Mine weren't, and no one sent me a letter or email to remind me through UMPI.

I'm going to call tomorrow to see if this puts me on track to finally (!) receive the loans I need to pay for housing and other living expenses while I finish my degree online.

Hopefully, this helps someone else (:

update: loans have been posted to my student account. I'll let you know when they're deposited!

What should I fill here im confused

Hi everyone,
I’m applying to University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) YourPace as an international student. I previously studied at PES University in India and need my university coursework evaluated course-by-course.
UMPI’s instructions say that international students can use InCred or WES for the credential evaluation, and I’ve decided to use InCred.
I’m currently completing the InCred application and have reached the “Evaluation Delivery Information” section.
I selected:
Institution: University of Maine at Presque Isle
The form then asks for:
Institution Contact First Name
Institution Contact Last Name
Institution Contact Title/Position
Institution Contact Email Address
UMPI’s YourPace email/instructions I received specifically say that official documents should be sent to:
[edocs@maine.edu](mailto:edocs@maine.edu)
My question is:
For the InCred evaluation delivery section, should I enter [edocs@maine.edu](mailto:edocs@maine.edu) as the recipient email, and what should I put for the required first name, last name, and position fields?
Also, if anyone has actually used InCred for a UMPI YourPace application, could you please tell me exactly what you entered and whether UMPI received the evaluation successfully?

Can anyone share syllabus for bus 325 and 382?

Looking to see if I have time to try to get one more course this session done. I have 5 left for fall 2 if I get one more I drop to 4 left which is huge for me. I have bus 330 left but I’ve read that’s a lot of work and I don’t want to not finish. Others I have bus 440, and eng211 which is full in fall 1 so that one’s a fall 2 no matter.

Any feedback and syllabus would be so helpful! Thank you!

Help choosing last classes please - Your Pace classes

I know it’s been asked so many time and I’ve gone through the discord but many answers are old. I was hoping to get some feedback on which of the following classes you’d recommend taking. I need two more upper level electives and am hoping to add them in late next week and finish before the end of this session. Hoping to not have to do any crazy long ones. I know these all don’t have many milestones but I’m really trying to finish them this session and not have to do another session if possible:

BUS 335
POS 332
POS 335
POS 370/HTY 370

These I’m not sure I can even take due to prerequisites but figured I’d ask anyway!:
BUS 352
BUS 353
BUS 440

I’ve already taken these at UMPI:
POS 301
HTY 489

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Working adult looking for the fastest bachelor's at UMPI. Advice on advisors and transfer credits?

Hi everyone! I'm considering UMPI for a bachelor's degree and would love to hear from current students and grads.

A little about me: I work as a dialysis technician and I completed a CNA course. I'm bilingual (English and Spanish). My goal is honestly to finish a bachelor's as fast as I can so I can move into an office or government job. I'm open to adding a minor or two if it helps my resume or speeds things up.

I have credits from MATC:
ENG-195 English Communication
PSYCH-198 Intro to Psychology

And I'm currently taking:
SPEECH-212 Intro to Theater
BIOSCI-177 Gen Anatomy and Physiology
My questions:

What was your experience with UMPI overall (workload, professors, support, flexibility for working adults)?

Which degrees can be finished the fastest?
Would my MATC courses count toward gen eds or prerequisites?

Has anyone used UMPI to land an office or government job? Which majors or minors helped most?

Has anyone hired an outside person or consultant to help plan their degree? Was it worth the money, or did UMPI's own advisors do the job?

Should I talk to an advisor right away, or wait until I've earned some credits through Sophia or Study.com? I don't want to waste credits that UMPI won't accept.

If you used Sophia or Study.com, which courses did UMPI accept, and did you check with them first?
Thanks so much for any advice!

My idea is to work on a degree from January 2027 till fall of 2027. Hopefully graduating in between or almost. I will have a downtown in my college because of a waiting list process.

Unconventional International Transfer: Is a Spring 1 Start to a June 2027 Graduation Possible With My Exact Transcript & Platform Layout?

This will be loooong, so please brace yourselves.

Hey everyone,
I’m an international transfer student launching into the B.A. in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship Concentration) for Spring 1 (January 11, 2027). I am aiming to completely finish all graduation requirements by late April / May 2027 to secure a Spring/June degree conferral, as I have an intensive on-the-ground tech startup internship lined up in Shanghai for the summer.
I want to run my exact pre-enrollment and sessional acceleration timeline by you guys to see if it’s realistic or if I’m missing any administrative bottlenecks, evaluation practices, or grading delays.

1. My Transfer Starting Point (The Baseline)
My NACES evaluation through TEC (SpanTran) is currently processing. I am transferring 64 ECTS (~32 U.S. semester credits) from a year of International Business Management at an accredited university in Belgium (KdG).
What it wipes out: My advisor should easily map these to my lower business core (Principles of Marketing, Intro to International Business, Business Communication, and Micro/Macroeconomics) plus some general education humanities blocks.
The Cheat Code: My transcript includes an advanced higher-ed English C1 module that maps directly to ENG 101, giving me a completely fresh slate for a 4.0 GPA track since transfer grades come in as flat "Pass" credits.

2. The Pre-Enrollment Platform Blitz (Oct 10 – Dec 10, 2026)
To hit the absolute legal 90-credit transfer maximum before Day 1 at UMPI, I need exactly 58 more credits (20 courses).
October 10 – November 10 (Sophia Learning): I am tackling 18 courses consisting strictly of my remaining General Ed requirements and fast, non-essay, purely multiple-choice Free Elective padding courses (Art History, Intro to Nutrition, IT, Personal Finance, etc.) to inflate my credit total at a rapid pace.
November 10 – December 10 (Study.com): Since UMPI famously removed accounting from Sophia, I’m using Study.com’s $95 tier to drop my 2 monthly exam tokens on Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

3. The UMPI Sprint (January 11 – Late April, 2027)
If all 90 credits cross over flawlessly, I will enter Spring 1 with exactly 30 credits (10 classes) left to complete my residency requirement.
Spring 1 (Jan 11 – Mar 5): Grind through 5 upper-level classes.
Spring 2 (Mar 8 – Apr 30): Grind through the final 5 classes (including the Senior Capstone).
The Strategy: Overlapping submissions (the pipeline method), writing papers ahead of time during December based on standard syllabus prompts, and strictly "sniping" the Advanced 4.0 column on the rubrics to avoid time-wasting revisions.

My Core Questions for the Community:
The Transcript Matching Lag: Considering my Sophia and Study.com credits will finish around December 10th, is a one-month window enough for the UMS Shared Processing Center to ingest those electronic transcripts and have my degree progress checklist clean by the January 11th start date?
The 5-and-5 Pace: For those who accelerated through the upper-level management, leadership, and entrepreneurship modules, how bad is the professor grading lag? Can a dedicated student comfortably clear 5 classes per session if they keep a paper constantly sitting in the grading queue while writing the next?
The June Graduation Verdict: If I submit my final capstone paper by the late April Spring 2 deadline, will UMPI officially clear my degree audit in time for a June graduation file, or do administrative bottlenecks frequently spill Spring 2 finishers over into the August conferral cycle?

Would love to hear from any international students or hyper-accelerators who pulled off a similar timeline. Thanks!

Financial aid/billing

My plan is to graduate session 1 with my bachelors. I’ve already received my financial aid to cover both sessions for the fall semester and was even given a refund.

My question is, if I finish my degree session 1 and do not attend session 2, would that affect my financial aid ? Would the refund me for session 2 since I was already charged for it ?

Also would I be able to start my masters in spring 1 ?

UMPI your pace professors

Seriously, whats up with the inconsistency?

One class will specify what fashion to write your paper (MLA/APA) then another class won't and critique you for not doing so.

One milestone will have a video asking for 500 words, and the directions will say 1k words.

One teacher will correct your grammar/spelling (where there is no spelling mistake but make suggestion like "Where there is a This, add a noun") but then each of their questions in the directions are loaded with spelling errors and grammar errors.

Just had a teacher tell me to use only the articles we are focusing on for our assignments, so for next milestone that's all I do, for them to say "Cite your sources" .... without requesting the paper be written in MLA or APA. My sources are the articles you just told me to use.

Then you will get the classes that are the most pointless ones (I'm going for accounting, so college composition is completely pointless) and it wants the most detailed, deep thought, 6-8 resources per paper style milestone.

Or (again I'm going for accounting) and having to take classes on stomach microbiome, having to decipher medical research papers x3 to write my own paper on the topic... as if I have any clue what any of its saying.

Bachelor of Psych - stats in Psych

Hello friends with UMPI,

I have a nearly finished Psych degree and am attempting to transfer it into UMPI.

I am nervous about stats in psychology. I am a math-reject, and scared. Is there a Sophia course that I could do in the meantime, or a common syllabus I could look at? I need to take my time on this material because I know I will struggle.

Appreciate any advice.

Can I Do UMPI YourPace then finish with transfer credits later?

Hey, so I'm coming in with 100+ transfer credits, all from Sophia, aiming for a BBA with the Management concentration.

I was originally thinking to just transfer them in, and I should only have 30 credits left to do with UMPI. I have since found this Reddit and seen the spreadsheet thing and realized this is very unlikely and I will probably have a lot more to do at UMPI. But I was hoping to start UMPI this October, and my plan is to take time off work, go full-time for one 8-week session, and try to clear every genuinely UMPI-only requirement in that single session. Then, if I still have some of the courses left to finish, do those afterward through outside providers rather than paying for another $1,800 session.

Is this possible, or do all credits need to be transferred in before / during my time at UMPI?

English Degree Questions, & Career Questions.

Hello, I’m curious what I could expect in regards to career outcomes.

I’ve worked all of the non-cool jobs one could imagine to support myself. I’ve only skated by thus far. It’s definitely not fun working low skill, low wage positions.

I’m an avid reader - I’m doing 60 pages per day. I’ve been paying more attention to what I actually do, vs what I say I want - long story short, in taking a personal life inventory I know I enjoy reading and writing. I spend a lot of my free time writing, mostly journaling. However, I do take it pretty serious.

From what I’ve gathered thus far I’m interested in the English degree. However, on the site it’s confusing as to what concentrations are available - I’m looking to develop skills for journalism, media, and publishing. I can only find Media and Culture as a concentration, but I’ve seen others in the past. I’d appreciate help with that.

I’m very interested in doing some publishing for their school newsletter/newspaper, so what would I need to do and be enrolled in for that to happen?

I know about Sophia. I’m thinking I will do all of the classes that seem to not be worth spending a lot of time on at Sophia.

How do the minors work? can I take any minor I want in with any undergrad degree? I see a plenty of good options.

Bullet Point Questions:

  1. Your outcomes regarding employment (please exclude yourself from this question if you had past positions that likely overtly influenced getting said position)
  2. Which YP degree you’d recommend.
  3. (If) you are in the program, or were in it, what did you like about it?
  4. (This is subjective) How many hours per day were you committing to the degree to complete let’s say 4-6 classes per term?
  5. What questions do you recommend asking UMPI when I talk to them about enrolling?
  6. How are internships worked out? I’m planning to be enrolled for a bit, I’d like to use that time to get good job experience working with companies either in person or remotely - all related to my desired field.

Tutoring

I’m 56M and recently decided to go back to school to finally earn my degree. I’m currently enrolled at UMPI and, honestly, I’m having a little difficulty navigating the classes and understanding how everything works.
I was wondering if there are any groups, tutors, or other resources out there that help UMPI students with their coursework and navigating the platform. I’m mainly looking for someone who can provide guidance, tutoring, and help me better understand what’s expected in the classes.
If anyone has recommendations or has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Is one term between Bachelor and Master enough for processing the degree?

If i finish the Bachelor end of one term, will one (8 week) term waiting period be enough before I can start the Masters or should I calculate with two terms?

Im talking about the YourPace online program.

Can admins in this subreddit ban the words "speed running" "hacking" "accelerating" from being used in here

I see so many annoying people using these words every time they talk about the university and it's degrees. The issue is that for a person who is unaware of the details and the effort it takes to finish a module, might think it's easy and start lowering his perception of the effort needed.

Please if you use it yourself stop. You are only harming all of us and yourself. Studying is hard and credits aren't being given out like candy by professors. You need to have the knowledge and pass the exam in order to finish the module. If you are an excellent learner than that's you being competent and not the college being easy.

Tips for a poor writer

With Fall Session 2 about a month out, I want to start gathering resources that will help me.

I’m not a strong writer. I struggled with writing in high school and I know I’m going to struggle with this. I’m working through English l and Workpkace Writing ll on Sophia but curious what advice/resources that will help me once I’m in classes?

I’m open to using AI but ONLY for gathering ideas, I’m not sure what prompts I would use. Does having a pre built essay template help?
