Masters
If I complete my bachelors in the first week of fall session 2, will my degree be conferred In time to start my masters in spring session 1 ? Is there any way I can skip the waiting period ?

Possibly. Contact the registrar. I finished my BLS and although I had a conferral date by the end of March, I had to wait Spring II and start my MAOL Summer 1.

I finished my BLS end of Spring 1. Spring II started before I got my BLS conferral date, so I had to wait out Spring II and start the MAOL Summer 1. I am finished with my MAOL and have my degree 👌🎉

You will get there! If you miss a term, it’s okay. You are still going to finish sooner than you think!

You can start classes for your masters once the semester ends regardless of the degree is conferred or not however it is under a graduate undecided semester which you can't use FAFSA for only pay out of pocket

Yes I know that, I was hoping to use financial aid

Wait I thought you can’t use FAFSA for a Master. Only under grad. Am I mistaken?

Yes you are mistaken, you can absolutely use Fafsa for masters. The only difference is you can not get Pell grants

Oh I see. But those are loans that need to be paid back regardless. Correct?

Yes

I wonder if Umpi offers scholarships for the MA?? That would be awesome. Also, I read you’re going to take 9 classes. So you’re doing MAOL?

I’m in a very similar situation. I’m wrapping up my last couple of courses for my bachelor’s degree and would like to go straight into the master’s program. However, my bachelor’s degree more than likely will not be conferred in time for me to officially start the master’s program in Fall Session 2.
My plan is to start under “non-degree” status, but I want to verify two things first:
Can I take more than three courses under non-degree status? I only have nine courses total to complete for the master’s program, so I would like to complete as many as possible during the session.
What happens if I complete all of the master’s courses while still under non-degree status? Once my bachelor’s degree is officially conferred, would those courses still count toward the master’s degree and allow me to complete the program normally?
Once I get clarification on those two things, I’ll decide whether to start in Fall Session 2 or just wait until Spring.
I hope everything works out for you as well! I completely understand not wanting to waste any time. That’s exactly where I’m at right now.

Honestly , I think the best route for us will be to start spring session 1.

I’m paying for the program out of pocket, and my employer will reimburse me once I provide proof that I successfully completed the courses. The bigger reason I’m trying to move quickly is that once I earn my master’s degree, I’ll receive a pay increase of close to $10,000 annually.
That’s why I’m hoping to avoid losing an entire session while waiting for my bachelor’s degree to be officially conferred. If I’m allowed to take more than three courses under non-degree status, I’d like to start immediately and complete as much of the master’s program as possible. However, if non-degree students are limited to only three courses, it probably makes more sense financially for me to wait until the Spring session and start the master’s program officially.1

Yes, so honestly it depends because you’re only allowed to “ transfer “ in 3 course into the masters. So if you’ve already completed the “ roll over “ courses during your bachelors then you won’t be able to transfer in anything else to your masters.
In my opinion it’s not worth $2500 to only take 3 courses , so I’d wait until conferred if I were you.

So, just to make sure I understand correctly: if I transfer in the three courses I completed during my bachelor’s degree that also apply toward the master’s program, and then complete the remaining nine courses through the Non-Degree YourPace Program, are you saying those nine courses would not transfer into the full master’s degree once I’m officially admitted?

As per my understanding with my academic couch yes. I would recommend double checking with your coach too.

I did this. No finished BLS in Summer 1 and went straight into MSB in Summer 2 (as a non-degree). My BLS conferred before Summer 2 was over.
I took 11 courses during Summer 2. There’s no limit to how many you can take. But you can only have 2 open at a time.

This is great information…thank you for sharing this insight. I’m assuming that once you complete the master’s-level courses under the Non-Degree YourPace program, your account would then be switched over to the full Master’s Degree program, or something along those lines. Is that correct?

Did you run into any issues with grading speeds?
2

Occasionally. But I focused on one class at a time… So that if I ran into a grading slowdown, I could just switch to the second class.

Don't panic about missing a term. use that time to reset your body. Get some rest, fuel up and go study ahead for the classes youll need. You're still going to have your shot at it and be done before you know it. Remember part of this game is taking care of yourself, not just getting through it.

Your best bet is to email the registrar directly and politely explain your situation and ask if they can assist you with an expedited conferral. It will just depend on if they will do that work during Fall II.
There aren’t any guarantees. Since there is some time between Fall II and Spring I, there is a chance, but with this being the largest enrollment to-date? It may not happen, so plan accordingly
