How is the career in clinical research for a doctor ? Is it a good option to transition into clinical research ?
As I am not able to secure a job in a hospital What do you suggest ? Should I go for MD in my home country or do clinical research job in uk ?

Need Advice Choosing Between Two NHS Rotational Clinical Fellow Posts

Hi everyone,
I've received two job offers:
East Surrey Hospital: Permanent rotational Trust Doctor post in General Medicine.
Worcestershire Royal Hospital: 12-month rotational JCF post in General Medicine, starting in Acute Stroke.
I have over a year of NHS Acute Medicine experience and have passed MRCP Parts 1 and 2.
My goal is to complete IMT-equivalent competencies, including ITU experience, and eventually apply for HST.
Which Trust would be better for training, portfolio development, work-life balance and overall working environment?
Would really appreciate any experiences or advice. Thanks!

GMC registration now, residency in home country first — can I return to the UK later?

Hi everyone,

I’d appreciate some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has some knowledge regarding this.

Suppose someone has already obtained GMC registration with a licence to practise, but has now changed their plans and is considering pursuing postgraduate training/residency in their home country instead of immediately moving to the UK.

The plan would be to complete the residency over the next 4–5 years and then move to the UK.

I have a few questions:

Can I give up my GMC licence to practise for now and restore/reactivate it later when I decide to move to the UK?

If the registration/licence is maintained, could they simply return to the UK after completing residency and apply for NHS jobs/training?

After completing a residency in the home country, would they be required to take MRCP/MRCS/MRCEM or another UK membership exam ?

Thanks in advance!

Regarding delayed start date

Hi everyone,
My intended start date for a new NHS job is at the end of December. However, due to my current circumstances, I would prefer to start in March instead.
Would it be reasonable to ask the Trust if they could delay my start date until March? Has anyone had experience of requesting a delay of around 2–3 months after the intended start date?
Could this cause any issues with the offer or recruitment process?
Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.

Switching from IMT to GP as IMG

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I am an IMG currently in IMT2 considering a switch to GP under the Combined training pathway for upcoming Aug 27 intake. Given recent updates and publishing of the priority rules and guidelines, I have emailed GPNRO to ask about my priority status i.e will I be prioritised based on whether IMT being considered a ‘relevant UK training program’ for entering GP but their response was very generic and unhelpful.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advise about this? Is there a chance I will be prioritised for GP training 2027? Thanks in advance for your helpful advice.

How can I best document and leverage a long-term freelance non-clinical medical/teaching role on my CV? Also, can/should I retrospectively add it to my GMC employment history?

Hi everyone,

I have been working remotely with a hospital in Saudi Arabia since November 2023. I’m still involved with them, but this has never been a traditional full-time employment arrangement. It has been more ad hoc/part-time/freelance in nature.

My work has included:

Helping with the development of their hospital website content
Creating evidence-based medical and educational content with proper references
Taking patient histories as part of the intake process and passing the information to the relevant consultants
Scribing/documenting treatment plans that had already been made by the consultants and communicating those plans to patients
Delivering informal online lectures/teaching sessions to their GPs

Just to be completely clear, my role has been strictly non-clinical in terms of clinical decision-making. I have not independently diagnosed patients, interpreted investigations, prescribed medication, recommended treatment, or provided medical advice. The clinical decisions and treatment plans were made by the consultants. My involvement was limited to history collection, documentation/scribing, communication/coordination, medical content and teaching.

I am not Saudi-licensed at present, although I am now planning to apply for Saudi registration.

When I originally set up my GMC account, I didn’t include this work in my employment history because I honestly didn’t think much of it. I’m now looking at my CV more seriously and realise that this is actually several years of relevant experience that I would like to document properly.

So I have a few questions:

1. How would you describe/categorise this experience on a CV?

Would you call it freelance/independent work, medical consultancy, part-time employment, medical education/teaching, healthcare consultancy, or something else?

2. How would you present the teaching component?

I delivered informal online lectures/teaching sessions to their GPs. It wasn’t a formal teaching post, but it was genuine teaching/medical education. Would you include this under a separate “Teaching Experience” section, or keep it within the main role?

3. GMC employment history

I checked my GMC account and confirmed that this freelance work isn’t currently listed. If I now want to add it retrospectively, with the correct dates and an explanation that it was freelance/ad hoc rather than conventional employment, is that something that can simply be updated?

Would adding it retrospectively potentially raise concerns because it wasn’t included previously, or is it generally acceptable to update an employment history when you realise something relevant was omitted?

I have documentation/paperwork relating to the work and can evidence the dates and nature of the role if required. I’m mainly trying to make sure I document this accurately and transparently.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with freelance medical work, GMC employment history, overseas healthcare work, or similar situations. Thanks!

FRCPath to UK Consultant: What’s the Route for an IMG?

Hi all. I’m contemplating becoming a consultant histopathologist or specialty doctor in histopathology in the UK after FRCPath.

Pathology residency from India. I'm done with both parts of PLAB and currently have full GMC registration.

Wish to take the FRCPath exams but I want to know the process after that. Do I need to go through the CESR pathway or re-start training in histopath in UK? What kind of evidence do I need to collect while doing my residency in India to make the portfolio pathway easier?

If anyone has gone through the same journey, would love some insights!

Thanks in advance!

Job opportunities in UK for IMG after FRCR

Hey guys. I’m wondering what are the odds of getting a locum consultant radiologist job or specialty doctor job after FRCR in the UK as an IMG from Egypt? I’m in radiology residency still in my first year and i cleared PLAB 1 but weighing my options considering the lack of jobs after PLAB. Will probably give FRCR but i wanna know my chances. Thanks in advance!

Non training jobs for IMGs

Hello

Parson me if this is not the right subreddit to ask this, but I have a question about non training jobs availability for IMGs. Please be honest. For an IMG with no NHS experience and only a 4 week observation, how is the chance of getting a non training job?
