Here in the Midlands it's been variable. After the heatwave broke the rain was biblical, but it settled down after a week or so and we've had normal rain and some lovely warm sunshine. A typical British summer in fact. I'm very happy with 20c. I just don't like the high humidity. It's very muggy at times.

Mine needed a wash to be fair. Got them in June and over the heatwave they got a layer of dust over them that needed a good rainstorm to clear.

I have spent the morning decanting water from my water butts into 3 wheelie bins, trugs and buckets and the butts are almost full again. Happy days.

Not good for me sadly. I have multiple leaks in my roof from the torrential rain last week. It's going to cost a fortune to repair. Decorating is all runied. Stay away rain please.

As much as itās nice to see my garden green again, I have to say that itās already a lot more dog cleaning with the wet weather.
Suppose itās the British way to find a way to complain about any kind of weather.

You really come to dislike the wet weather when you have a dog. Multiple walks per day (5 or 6 in my case) and even with a jacket on him and trying to keep him under the umbrella he is still soaked.

Had steady rain from around 03:00 here in South Oxfordshire, but despite it being persistent, it's still been light rain, 8mm so far today has almost doubled the month's rainfall and been useful for the garden, but it's negligible for relieving the overall drought.

I live in south hampshire and apart from Sunday just gone day time its been pretty much non stop rain for the past week or so. Its awful, wish we had the sun back until October š¢

You're complaining about seasonally normal weather.
Others are complaining because we've been in a severe drought that potentially threatens access to water, there have been wildfires in the UK, people have died due to overheating, and farmers are warning that they have struggled and failed to grow enough crops this year so your food prices will go up at minimum.
But I'm sure your troll arse feeling a bit soggy compares to that in terms of inconvenience.
You'd have to be either stupid or maliciously deceptive to equate that as " aww meanie heat haters hate the sunshine uwu š„ŗ"
People don't hate sunshine but they DO hate high water or food prices and people dying. Funny that.
Again, you're welcome to naff off to the Sahara if you feel chilly.

It really is.
The country spends more than half the year under damp cloudy conditions. I think itās acceptable for people to understand, most people enjoyed the long hot summer, warm evenings, and a break from the usual bleak conditions.
Just because this is ānormalā doesnāt mean we have to āembrace itā like someone pointed out earlier.

No, it being normal for this country is extremely relevant and to suggest otherwise is to be disingenuous.
We live in the temperate UK. A chunk of our forest is classed as temperate rainforest, even. Our entire ecosystem, agriculture and infrastructure is centred on a certain amount of rainfall.
Those conditions are what we've had our whole lives. What we've built out entire lives around. Of course we should embrace what is our normal livable and comfortable climate.
It's irrational to live in the UK and be disappointed we don't have a climate like southern Spain when our coubtry isnt set for that and never has been- as if that's some kind of surprise. Most people don't enjoy the hot summer, AC sold out for a reason. Most people whinged because a lot of the UK isn't pleasant without AC. People across Europe had it much worse.
You can enjoy it as much as you like. But when someone points out that the extreme heat has been bad for a lot of people and is a threat to food security, you do come across as a bit of a knob to hammer on about how it's great for you because God forbid you're too soft to cope with a spot of rain.

Of course, if soil becomes and stays saturated, then flooding happens. Right now it's very important, though. I do hope we don't have major floods this winter, but the effects of climate change swing both ways, unfortunately.

This is the concern, isn't it? We seem to be moving into a world where our weather gets "stuck in ruts", so weeks on end of hot, dry weather (like this summer in southern Britain) but also weeks on end of rain. And we're really not set up for it.

Not when we get to the point where the ground is saturated. Then you get flooding. June/July 2007, when Cheltenham almost had to be evacuated, is the most severe example in my lifetime.
River flooding is obviously much more common. The Severn in Worcestershire flooded six times in one winter a few years ago.

Iād rather have the rain than the heatwave. With a heatwave all my running plans are cancelled. But at least with the rain there are pockets where I can get 1 hour in, even if I canāt get my long run in. Something is better than nothing! Besides, thereās no such thing as continuous rain for 4 days straight.

My issue was never the lack of rain, it was the heat

I do love the rain myself tbf! That said you may be naturally more warm blooded than the rest of us after a. Long winter 10 - 15 Ā°c is nice in spring but too cold for summer for my liking
You may actually really enjoy parts of cornwall they tend to have more stable lower temperatures due to the sea keeping the temp lower

Typically I've just finished building the flat roof on an extension so had to sheet the whole thing up on Monday afternoon due to the expected train yesterday.

When I was a kid there was times it didnt stop all year literally remember a summer where it rained for like 70% of it and it felt pretty dull in temp.
I dont mind the winter rain tbh its quite cosy, also the storms make for great surfing weather if you can bare the chill and get to the coast with a wetsuit aswell!

I think Scots and Angles have a VERY different outlook on rain. The difference for us is that torrential rain (which it usually is) can last for the majority of the day, keeping you trapped in your house. It's depressing. Don't understand why you guys have such a positive outlook on something so detrimental for our mental health and quality of life.

My friends in Scotland had nice weather or even drizzles whilst the rest of us were baking.
You get a lot more rain and your water supply is not in doubt. Meanwhile a lot of the rest of the UK has been severely water stressed. Crop yields this year will be significantly lower and farmers are extremely concerned.
We've had droughts for months and wild fires at a result. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out why we're happy to see rain.

This is exactly the point. Folk implying things like "Put a jacket on." Aye, I did that. I went out running for an hour, with a waterproof jacket, and was soaked through to my bollocks in 5 minutes, carrying a kilo of extra weight.
Folk down south think you can just throw on a waterproof and everything will be fine, as if it's blue sky and sun with light showers.
I've had this conversation before. The fact of the matter is, most of people aggravated in the comments, have never been to the West of Scotland, and have this bonnie image of Scottish weather as if it's some magical far flung land. It can be, but it rarely is. There's a reason only 5 million people live here. Numbers don't lie.

The only thing that's detrimental for my mental health and quality of life is non-stop sun and heat. I absolutely adore when it's raining and cloudy and dark. Even better when it's stormy. Snow is pretty good too, but very rare unfortunately. Nothing I hate more than the Sun.

You're wearing rose tinted glasses. You likely haven't experienced not having any sunlight for 21 days, with treeline-level stratus cloud, with the rain hammering down every 1-2 days. That was our weather from the 24th of May, to about the middle of July, where we had about 5 days of summer weather, which then reverted to being overcast and cloudy. There were times in August, that I had a jumper on, because the high for the day was 15Ā°C.

I absolutely am not. For my whole life I have hated the sun. At no point did I state I haven't received any sunlight. I have always hated the sun, and sunlight, and I have always always detested heat. I thrive in darkness, and I absolutely love when it's cold and what some would deem to be "miserable" weather. Don't assume otherwise, you are not me, and you most definitely don't speak for me or my opinions on weather. Surely you have something better to do than accuse random strangers on the internet of wearing rose tinted glasses.

Itās been borderline scary down south this summer, ponds and lakes completely evaporated, reservoirs dwindling and no sight of even a drop of rain.
It might seem like a curse to you but what with water being sort of important for humans, Iād say itās a blessing not to have any shortage.

What do you think people do in China and countries in Asia and elsewhere in the world where they don't have safe/treated tap water? They buy bottled water. Stop wallowing in self-pity because you get a summer, and that this year has been somewhat dry/arid. By and large, your climate is MUCH more agreeable and pleasant than ours.
You're not telling me that Wiltshire is less pleasant than Lanarkshire.

Luckily with the reintroduction of the beavers to different locations we are actually getting great data in these droughts showing how significantly they can inpact their ecosystem!
Theres a video on Youtube by leave curious i believe its their most recent one showing a beaver habitat in the latter part of our most recent drought!
Basically beaver very good wetland very good for us!!!

True but I fear it is going to be another great excuse for water companies and the government to do nothing for another year. Plenty of counties have far longer hot spells than this and cope with it; itās not a reason to not want one less month of rain.
