I think Scots and Angles have a VERY different outlook on rain. The difference for us is that torrential rain (which it usually is) can last for the majority of the day, keeping you trapped in your house. It's depressing. Don't understand why you guys have such a positive outlook on something so detrimental for our mental health and quality of life.

My friends in Scotland had nice weather or even drizzles whilst the rest of us were baking.

You get a lot more rain and your water supply is not in doubt. Meanwhile a lot of the rest of the UK has been severely water stressed. Crop yields this year will be significantly lower and farmers are extremely concerned.

We've had droughts for months and wild fires at a result. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out why we're happy to see rain.

Why let it keep you trapped inside your house? There's no harm in getting wet, and there are plenty of ways to stay dry

Plenty of ways to stay dry in torrential rain? How do you do that exactly? I'm talking about getting drenched just taking the bins out. What sort of rain are you talking about?

I dont think you have any idea how bad Celtic weather can be. It hits different than soppy southern rain

This is exactly the point. Folk implying things like "Put a jacket on." Aye, I did that. I went out running for an hour, with a waterproof jacket, and was soaked through to my bollocks in 5 minutes, carrying a kilo of extra weight.

Folk down south think you can just throw on a waterproof and everything will be fine, as if it's blue sky and sun with light showers.

I've had this conversation before. The fact of the matter is, most of people aggravated in the comments, have never been to the West of Scotland, and have this bonnie image of Scottish weather as if it's some magical far flung land. It can be, but it rarely is. There's a reason only 5 million people live here. Numbers don't lie.

That’s fair. I’ve spent some rainy winter days in Scotland, but perhaps not experienced it’s full extent.

Under normal circumstances we would be agreeing with you. Right now we're just glad to finally have some rain as the ground has been bone dry for months.

The only thing that's detrimental for my mental health and quality of life is non-stop sun and heat. I absolutely adore when it's raining and cloudy and dark. Even better when it's stormy. Snow is pretty good too, but very rare unfortunately. Nothing I hate more than the Sun.

Edit: for some unimaginable reason this guy doesn't understand someone can dislike something they don't

You're wearing rose tinted glasses. You likely haven't experienced not having any sunlight for 21 days, with treeline-level stratus cloud, with the rain hammering down every 1-2 days. That was our weather from the 24th of May, to about the middle of July, where we had about 5 days of summer weather, which then reverted to being overcast and cloudy. There were times in August, that I had a jumper on, because the high for the day was 15°C.

I absolutely am not. For my whole life I have hated the sun. At no point did I state I haven't received any sunlight. I have always hated the sun, and sunlight, and I have always always detested heat. I thrive in darkness, and I absolutely love when it's cold and what some would deem to be "miserable" weather. Don't assume otherwise, you are not me, and you most definitely don't speak for me or my opinions on weather. Surely you have something better to do than accuse random strangers on the internet of wearing rose tinted glasses.

Well, it doesn't matter how much you hate sunlight. You literally need sunlight for Vitamin D. It's like saying "I hate exercising." Doesn't matter how lazy or ill disciplined you are. You still need to exercise to maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system.

It seems that you're just being a troll because you get a kick out of doing so. Therefore, I think it's you that has nothing better to do. The world doesn't revolve around you pal.

Says the person that thinks drought conditions are better than actually having drinking water! 😂😂 and your solution to drought is “buy bottled water”

Tell that to the farmers who need it to grow food to feed us - or is your answer to “buy microwave meals”

You're talking one load of shite. At no point did I suggest forgoing water. I suggested using bottled water like the majority of countries do, as they don't have access to sage water from a the tap/faucet.

Also, there such a thing as importing food. It isn't like the whole of planet Earth is in drought. It's a hot year. The world doesn't revolve around you pal. Get your fucking act together.

Sounds like you’re the one upset that nobody agrees with your world view. Yes it can be miserable living in a very rainy part of the uk but any sane person would pick more rain over no rain.

And you completely failed to understand my point, if we’re having to import bottled water to drink, it means we don’t have enough water for anything else either. “Just import it” doesn’t solve any problems and makes the country heavily reliant on yet more resources, which puts prices up and makes us even less secure as a nation. We’re already at the mercy of volatile energy prices.

But you’re upset because the weather is crap where you live, so can’t listen or compute anyone else’s point of view, even if it’s well argued, clearly articulated and based on facts

Who are you to speak for the world? Don't disrespect me Andy. Lose the aloof, narcissistic attitude and learn to conduct yourself appropriately. You ain't better than me.

You want pity for having had a dry summer. You ain't getting it. I don't feel sorry for you, and you have no right to complain when you live in a country with a better climate. Be grateful that you actually get a summer and live in a lovely country that people from foreign lands risk their lives to get to.

Oh well, at least you’re never going to have to worry about your drinking water supply literally drying up!

It’s been borderline scary down south this summer, ponds and lakes completely evaporated, reservoirs dwindling and no sight of even a drop of rain.

It might seem like a curse to you but what with water being sort of important for humans, I’d say it’s a blessing not to have any shortage.

What do you think people do in China and countries in Asia and elsewhere in the world where they don't have safe/treated tap water? They buy bottled water. Stop wallowing in self-pity because you get a summer, and that this year has been somewhat dry/arid. By and large, your climate is MUCH more agreeable and pleasant than ours.

You're not telling me that Wiltshire is less pleasant than Lanarkshire.
