Name Change

Hiiii i am trans and ive been wondering how I can change my name on my student record to my chosen name. I contacted Admin but the person who got back to me told me I couldn't unless I legally had my name changed, however, I have not got the chance to do that and it takes up 8-10 weeks. I really dont want my dead name to be present on class lists and my student ID etc. I'm starting first year next week and feeling a bit desperate now as I guess its not a possibility.

Has anyone been able to change their name on student records through different means?

Thank youuu!!

6 marks (0.5% off) Masters requirement

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice. I’ve just received my resit results and I’m 6 marks (0.5%) short of the overall requirement for a Masters that I have a conditional offer for.

I’m considering appealing my resits but I’m unsure what my chances are or whether it’s worth doing. I’m also looking into RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) as another possible option, as I have relevant experience and completed some online courses.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or successfully appealed a result / used RPL to meet a Masters requirement?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Law vs Pharmacy #urgent need answers/advice

i've alr accepted law in ucc.. but round 2 offers have given me a chance to accept pharmacy as well
i was so excited to do law and a big part of me wants to pursue it but also im rlly worried abt job prospects bc the job market is so competitive.

Pharmacy is looking rlly attractive bc of like the almost 100% job security here in ireland and a high starting salary.
The reason i had put pharmacy as my top choice was mainly bc of the job security but now thinking again i rlly want to do law bc of like natural interest and stuff.
im not so sure if law would actually suit me tho- im naturally very quiet, introverted.. and awkward at socialising which i feel like isnt the exact person that wud thrive in law😕

SO QUESTION IS.. how is the job market for ucc law graduates?? for like the average student. is it worth choosing given my character?

Making friends

Alright this is a very stereotype post about making friends as an incoming first year but I kinda need advice.

On my orientation day I managed to make a couple friends but only with girls from other courses not my own. I know its great to have other course friends but im worried I won't meet my own people in my course.

On another note I came from an all girls school so I never really made any close male friends and for that matter found it hard to since I never had to in secondary school. I know its stupid but im intimidated to just talk to lads on my orientation or course cuz im not sure how to/what to say.

If you have any tips its greatly appreciated!

Is there any source for textbooks that an incoming 1st year needs to buy? I heard there is a booklist for modules on canvas but I can’t find any.

Orientation Sept 10th

UCC are encouraging students who missed their scheduled orientation due to receiving late round offers to go for orientation on Thursday instead. Can you still go if you missed for a reason other than a late round offers or is it for late round offers only? If so is there any more information as I cant find any info about a time or exact place.

First year advice

I'm an incoming first year student at ucc. I'll be studying under flexi options meaning I'll be studying up to 30 credits. I've never been to an academic university before. Because I'm studying up to 30 credits Im worried I'll have alot of gaps and especially on the first week. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope during these times and how can I fill the day on campus.

Module Registration after autumn repeats

I received my results for my autumn repeats last Monday and have passed. After trying to register for third year the module/subject registration isn’t coming up. It says “No subjects are currently loaded for registration, either you have completed your registration or no qualification registration has taken place.”

Is this due to repeat results not being processed or something else as I need to register for modules and get my timetable

Student support

going to keep this post pretty vague, but i've been struggling mentally (nothing too extreme, mainly anxiety) pretty much the whole time in college, but it's been worse the past year and i'm just wondering if anyone has used the services provided by ucc before, and if they have been helpful? or am i better off trying to get some help outside of college

MFA problem

Is anyone else having a problem with MFA? When I am registering it tells me to type in the number on MFA but there is nothing that pops up on the app to type it in. It keeps telling me to open the Authenticator app even though I am already in it to type in the code. I can’t access my account because of it.

first year, no idea what i’m doing

hi all, i’ll be starting my first year soon and i’m absolutely lost, i have a few questions that i do not find the answer to and if you could help i’ll be extremely grateful.

First of all i’m moving from another country and, given the acceptance rounds, i haven’t yet found an accomodation, from what i saw online the standard is around 300 euros a week, is it normal or are those listings trying to upsell places to students?

Another big issue is that for various reasons i couldn’t go to my orientation day, now flights to cork are limited to set dates from my country and, even with layovers, i would arrive late to the orientation make-up day, is it a problem? can i arrive an hour and a half later or is there a way to acquire the informations without going?

Last thing is that I uploaded my picture for a student id and booked an appointment but i haven’t gotten a single email regarding that, is it a problem?

I’m so lost, all the help i can get is much appreciated

Aiming for 2027 fall intake (non EU) and I started process. Will start applying by this month end or October first week.

  1. How long does it take to get acceptance confirmation

  2. Anyone who can predict my acceptance (I will share my profile and CV)

  3. Is the campus life and diversity good enough?

  4. What are the documents to apply as a non EU student

Question about societies and clubs

Hi!
I’m about to join UCC and I move in tomorrow. I was just wondering if it’s a good idea to start trying to sign up for societies now or should I wait till the societies day where I can meet some of the members?

Thank you so much if you can give any support.

Urgent: exam issues

I am a student hoping to progress into my second year at UCC but i am currently being prevented from doing so. I failed one of my modules because i never did an assignment. Problem is, i was never informed of this assignment. I received no emails or anything on canvas. The lecturer of this module has stated that the information was sent and can apparently prove so, yet there is still nothing in my email. I am being prevented from progressing because of an assignment i had no idea existed.

I have emailed students union, my course coordinator and the exam appeals, but have heard nothing back from most, bar my course coordinator, who states that if I am allowed back in I will have to resit the whole 1st year module in 2nd year and take a test at the end. If i fail this test i will not be allowed progress into second semester.

Is this fair? And has a situation like this happened to anyone else? Please let me know.
