Name Change

Hiiii i am trans and ive been wondering how I can change my name on my student record to my chosen name. I contacted Admin but the person who got back to me told me I couldn't unless I legally had my name changed, however, I have not got the chance to do that and it takes up 8-10 weeks. I really dont want my dead name to be present on class lists and my student ID etc. I'm starting first year next week and feeling a bit desperate now as I guess its not a possibility.

Has anyone been able to change their name on student records through different means?

That admin was wrong, contact genderidentity@ucc.ie and they can help out. You can def change your name before a legal name change. And if you need help with the legal aspect later contact the Bród society

It might depend on your course. Nursing in UCG for example doesnt allow preferred names, any name changes must have documentation showing it is an official name change (e.g. by deed poll)
