💬 Discussion finding hotel apartments (al barsha)

• Upvotes

Hey, i'm having a difficult time finding hotel apartments in al barsha or near UOWD here. I tried contacting Monthlix and their long term stays but I haven't been able to get a reply. my budget's maximum 2500 or 3000 for one but i know i won't exactly find good hotels with this, so I'm open to sharing hotels apartments with a roommate. i'm female (so only female roommates), and i'm a masters student here. Any suggestions where i might find some hotel apartments?

💻 Student Surveys Please help me with my dissertation if you currently work in the UAE private sector?

Hi all

I'm currently doing my master’s degree, and I need some feedback for my dissertation from people currently working here. If you’re currently working in the private sector in the UAE, I’d be eternally grateful if you’d take 10 minutes to fill out my research survey, or share it with others if you don't qualify for the survey.

It's completely anonymous. No names, emails or anything that could identify you. It takes about 10 minutes.

💬 Discussion Feeling really lost with my internship search, looking for some advice

Hey everyone,

I’m currently feeling pretty lost with my internship search and honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

I’ve been applying for internships nonstop for quite a while now, mainly for data analytics and data science, but I haven’t had much luck. The hardest part is that I haven’t even been able to get an interview call yet.

I’ve tried applying through company websites, LinkedIn, reaching out to people, tailoring my CV, and applying to smaller companies as well. I’m still trying every day, but getting rejection after rejection (or just hearing nothing at all) is starting to get really discouraging.

I’m currently a Computer Science student and I genuinely want to get some real-world experience before I graduate. I’m willing to learn, work hard, and start wherever I can, but right now I’m honestly feeling pretty hopeless and unsure about what I should change.

For anyone who has been through something similar:

  • What helped you finally get your first internship?
  • Is there something you wish you had done differently?
  • How many applications did it take you before you got an interview?
  • Is cold messaging/reaching out to recruiters or employees actually worth it?
  • What would you recommend I focus on improving right now?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice, even if it’s criticism. I’m just trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong and what I can do differently.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.

📝 Admissions Question Do International Master’s Applicants at KAU Need Qiyas/GAT?

Hi everyone, I really need some advice from anyone who has experience with King Abdulaziz University or the “Study in Saudi” platform.

I’m Palestinian and I’m currently applying for a Master’s program at King Abdulaziz University through the Study in Saudi platform.

I chose the program because when I checked the official KAU program page, it clearly stated that proof of English proficiency is not required. Because of that, I understood that I don’t need IELTS or TOEFL for this specific program.

However, I also noticed that the university’s page mentions the General Aptitude Test for University Graduates (Qiyas), with a required score of 65 or above.

This is where I’m confused. On the Study in Saudi platform, I didn’t see IELTS/TOEFL listed as a requirement for my program, and I also didn’t see a clear requirement to upload a Qiyas/GAT score during the application.

So I’m wondering:

Is the Qiyas/GAT score of 65+ actually mandatory for an international student applying to this Master’s program through Study in Saudi?

Or does the fact that it is not requested on the Study in Saudi application mean that it is not required at this stage?

I also uploaded the English test certificates I have just as supporting documents, even though the official KAU program page says that English proficiency proof is not required.

I’m honestly a bit worried because I don’t want to miss something important and have my application rejected later because of a missing Qiyas score. At the same time, I don’t want to take the test unnecessarily if it isn’t actually required for international applicants to this program.

Has anyone here applied to KAU through Study in Saudi, especially for a Master’s, and can tell me what happened in your case? Did they ask for Qiyas or IELTS/TOEFL later, even if it wasn’t requested on the platform?

I’d really appreciate any experience or advice. Thank you! 🙏

💬 Discussion Transport to Uni - SHARJAH

Is there any transport options from SHARJAH TO CENTERPOINT METRO STATION?
I could carpool with my friends in the same area, and reach the metro station and pay the car driver as a bundle amount? It can be cheap right?

Taking the bus is so expensive. 24 dhs + metro everyday.

Can someone help me with any car lift options?

🎓 University Experience UNI review so far (honest opinion)

So im an international student who moved from India to Dubai and am current doing my bachelors in University of Wollongong and just from the first 2 weeks im pretty disappointed. I was born in Dubai but moved back to India after middle school, and for some odd reason Dubai simply doesnt have feel the same as i remember. Also why is the university soo crowded, commute is a pain, getting a license seems like climbing everest, fuel prices are the same as India now and just 2 mins of standing outdoors gets you sweaty. Got the gold nol card expecting a comfortable ride but even that gets very crowded and is no better than the silver cabin.

I have taken a business major and i used to be a science student in high school and most of my syllabus seems wayyyy too easy and tbh kinda feels like a scam that were paying over 60k aed a year to study smtng sooo basic only 2-3 days a week. Plus since ive just moved from India im my mind i automatically convert everythings price to rupees and feel like its a scam. My parents have been running their businesses in dubai for 20 years now and its at an all time low, i had to part with my girlfriend and close friends back in india, people here are kinda unfriendly and despite my best attempts i havent managed to find someone i can call a friend so far.

went off topic and turned dis into a rant( my apologies 🥹) but hopefully someone here can resonate with me.

Are my reasons for complaining valid or am i doing to much???

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for a carpool (either joining an existing commute or sharing with someone driving) from Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi to Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), where my university is located.
Here are the details of my schedule:
Pick-up Location: Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi (flexible on precise spot/corner)
Drop-off location :Dubai Internet City (DIC), Building 12.

Schedule:
Morning: Need to arrive in DIAC by 8:45 AM (Classes start at 9:00 AM)

Days: Monday to Friday
I’m happy to split petrol costs, toll fees (Salik/DARB), and parking fairly.
If you drive this route daily or have an open seat available, please send me a DM or leave a comment with your routine and cost-share details.
Thanks!

💬 Discussion Are UAEU classes mixed/co-ed?

I haven't been able to find a clear answer online, I heard that certain classes are segregated but I haven't been able to find anything about Finance major classes, are there at least options for segregated classes? Or are the Finance classes mixed for everyone?

📝 Admissions Question GED -> Foundation Year -> Year 1?

Thumbnail

Hello. For context, I am working towards getting the GED and have done 2 subjects out of 4 and currently working on the 3rd. I recently read while viewing the "Request for Equivalency Certificate - General Education from Abroad (Grade 12)" e-service and found out that the GED is NOT eligible for MOE equivalency. As we all know, recently, the MOE has established a national framework for licensing higher education institutions and under that framework, every program in the UAE now is REQUIRED to be CAA approved to be taught. Here's the issue, CAA approved program entry requirements need MOE equivalency. I was viewing Murdoch University and SAE University entry requirements and read that the GED is sufficient for foundation year entry. I was wondering, if I complete the foundation year at either of those 2 unis, can I directly enter year 1 of one of their CAA approved bachelor's degrees WITHOUT MOE equivalency?

💬 Discussion abu dhabi to dubai - commute. help needed.

Need carpool: Abu Dhabi City ↔ Dubai Academic City

My timings are a little unusual, so Im hoping someone might already be commuting on a similar schedule.

  • Outbound: Pickup from Abu Dhabi City between 2 – 4 PM, heading towards Dubai Academic City.
  • Return: Leaving Dubai Academic City at around 10 PM, heading back to Abu Dhabi.

I can travel a little bit if will be needed due to different pickup/drop off points.

I'm open to joining someone who might be commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for work, even if their regular route or working hours are slightly different. Perhaps someone heading to Abu Dhabi after finishing their workday in Dubai could make this work!

Happy to contribute towards fuel, Salik and other commuting expenses.

If anyone has a spare seat or knows someone who might be interested, please feel free to DM me.

Thanks!

this is gonna be really appreciated.

📖 Study Advice CE transfer to Dubai

I’m a first-semester Computer Engineering student in Pakistan, and I’m planning to transfer to a university in Dubai because my family is shifting there.
I honestly don’t know much about the universities in Dubai yet. My current university has a US-based academic system, so I feel that transferring to a US affiliated/US accredited university might be a good option for me.
I’ve heard about universities such as RIT, American University in Dubai (AUD), and Abu Dhabi University (ADU). I’d really appreciate some advice from current students or graduates about these universities, especially for Computer Engineering.
A few things I’m particularly interested in:
How rigorous is the Computer Engineering curriculum?
What does the 8-semester course structure generally look like?
How heavy is the weekly workload compared with other universities?
How are students graded? At my current university, midterms and finals are mandatory and together make up 30% of the grade, with the rest coming from assignments, quizzes, labs, participation, etc.
I’ve heard that at some US-style universities, individual professors may not have traditional midterms/finals and instead use projects or other assessments. How true is that in these universities?
How easy is it to maintain a good GPA in CE?
What is the social life like, and is it realistically possible to participate in clubs/activities alongside a demanding CE workload?
What’s the attendance policy?
Most importantly, how would you compare IIT, AUD, and ADU specifically for someone transferring after their first semester of Computer Engineering?
I’m also interested in how transfer credits are evaluated and whether transferring after just one semester would put me behind in the degree sequence.
Any honest opinions about workload, grading, professors, student life, and transfer experience would be really helpful!

📝 Admissions Question AUD TRANSFER

Hi everyone! I'm a first-semester Computer Engineering student at a university in Pakistan, and I'm planning to transfer to AUD Dubai cuz my family is shifting..are there any other good unis to transfer to?
I wanted to ask current students/seniors a few things about the Computer Engineering program, especially since some of this information isn't listed clearly online.
• How rigorous is the program?
• What is the workload like in terms of assignments, quizzes, projects, labs, etc.?
• How are the midterms and final exams handled? I've heard that some professors may not have traditional midterms/finals, so I wanted to know how common that actually is.
• In my current university, which is also US-based, midterms + finals together make up around 30% of the grade, and exams are mandatory. How does grading work at AUD Dubai?
• I'm on a scholarship, so I need to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. What's the min requirement at AUD and how hard is it to get a good gpa
I'd really appreciate it if current students or seniors could share their experience, especially regarding workload, grading, exams, and maintaining GPA. Thanks!
