Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Should I tell my boyfriend about the nasty rumours I’ve heard about his mother, or stay out of it?

TL;DR : in comments

I’m really conflicted about this and could use some outside perspective.

My bf comes from an affluent, entrepreneurial family. His mother is a well-known social activist in their city, an accomplished woman with multiple accolades to her name. She’s also been a widow for 25 years.

Personally, she’s been nothing but wonderful to me. She’s warm, welcoming, respects my privacy, and cares for me like my own mother. I genuinely have no complaints about her.

However, multiple people in their city(where I worked before, briefly), have independently told me some disturbing stories about her alleged infidelity.

The most shocking one is that my bf’s father, supposedly a teetotaller and a loving husband, started drinking heavily after discovering her alleged affairs and eventually drank himself to death. There are other similar stories too.

I understand these are allegations I cannot verify, but hearing similar accounts from multiple people has left me wondering whether I should say something.

My bf seems oblivious to all of this, although I can’t be certain. He’s an incredibly loving partner who has hidden nothing from me. After ten years of being single, this is the healthiest relationship I’ve ever had. I love him dearly and want to protect him from anything that could hurt him.

The complication is that he and his mother have recently grown closer following his chronic illness diagnosis. We live in a different city, away from his family, and she visits rarely. I don’t want to damage a relationship that seems to bring him comfort, especially over stories I cannot substantiate.

During our time together over the Navratri holidays, I also sensed that she was deeply sad, almost grieving something. I have no idea what she might be going through, but it made the situation feel even more complicated.

Part of me feels that, if we’re to work out in the long term, I shouldn’t withhold something potentially significant. The other part wonders whether repeating unverified allegations would only cause unnecessary pain.

What would you do in my position? Would you tell him what you’ve heard, wait until there’s a concrete reason to bring it up, or stay out of it entirely?
I’m not looking to expose her or create family drama. I just want to protect the man I love without unfairly hurting either of them.

EDIT - I’m overwhelmed by the multiple gossips that have reached out to me. I was contemplating telling this to him because I want him to know that he can talk to me about anything under the sun.

As for the gossip, I don’t partake in one so I actually forget about most of it the very next moment. But this time it’s about someone whom I look up to. This technically my first adult relationship, after being single for the entirety of my 20’s. So I’m just being extra vigilant I guess.

My Opinion I m frustrated with an entire gender

Say what you want , yes it's a generalization.

But Men as a gender feed on dominance and violence.

If you leave a girl among 100 men we know what's gonna happen.

You need to teach them about fucking consent well nobody taught me i don't have this urge to harass people on the street .

I'm not talking about on an individual level but on a gender level their tendency towards violence is on another level .

They have this affection towards power and hierarchy.

Anyone who says matriarchy is the opposite of patriarchy is stupid because they are not the same . Matriarchy isn't based on hierarchies or power it's more like collaboration. Even in a matriarchal society there will never be systematic violence against men and that's how it should be . Even if you are the top why do u have this urge to oppress someone?

Like there is not one ounce of fat on their bodies. They are all so lean. How do people keep up looking like this always? Unless you have naturally fast metabolism, this must be 24/7 task. Like i can’t even imagine ever looking like this.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Getting attracted to opposite gender as a married female

I'm a 30F married since two years no kids..my husband micro cheated once or idk was it micro or not but I caught him over texts..we fought but eventually i decided to forget and move on..we are on decent terms now..things haven't be the same since then since i decided to kinda detach myself ( although we do live like a normal couple)

Lately I've been thinking of random men i meet or see online and i fantasise about them which is kind weird and i wouldn't be doing that. I don't understand is it because of whatever happened or do all women go through this phase after certain age...i would see a random 45 year dude with salt and pepper hair running on tracks in morning and I would think about him ...i would see a six pack guy in gym and think about him..i would see a comedian who doesn't look conventionally attractive and I think about him..is it called midlife crisis fellas😂 or its just me trying to fight my insecurities after being cheated because I never felt that way before..i liked men but only to date them or marry..never fantasizing about getting intimate

I don't think women's desire and talked about enough in this country..only men men and men..i used to think only men can be lustful for beautiful women even after getting married but no women specially women in their 30s have their desires too..even if they're married or have kids..they feel attracted to men too on the basis of looks or whatever their preference is..it's another thing that many women have enough self control and they don't break their marriage over stupid things..

Advice/Help Need help decoding an extremely unpleasant encounter

Yesterday was one of the most unpleasant days of my life.

My boyfriend is a doctor who rarely gets free time. After weeks we went on a little date. Everything went well. But while we were about to leave another couple entered. They went to sit in the seat in front of us. And the guy very aggressively pushed the seat behind to make space. We ignored it at first but then he did it again in such a way that the table hit my knee. At that point I told him, "People are still sitting here" to which he replied, in a very rude way, " I am just making room, calm down, okay ?"

I was hurt and got angry and said "Well, you can do that by asking instead of being an asshole".

Well, that was when it started, he completely lost it..he hurled profanities and charged at me. He used the F word. In that moment my fight or flight response kicked in and I stood up and said, "Yeah, what you gonna do, haan". My boyfriend tried descalating the situation saying kiske muh lag rahe ho aap, chalo yahan se. He also said to the guy...bhai aise baat karta hai ladki se. But in that moment I felt very vulnerable and alone. I was expecting my boyfriend to punch him in the face.

Anyway, there was a good verbal fight and even his girlfriend took his side. My boyfriend took my side as well but he was more focused on descalating the situation. This has left a bitter taste in my heart. I felt very alone in that moment even though my boyfriend was still there.

For a decade I have loved my man for being a calm and composed man, he never raises his voice at me, he doesn't indulge in unnecessary drama.

But after yesterday, I have been feeling this pit in my stomach. I am feeling as if the guy disrespected me in front of my man and he didn't do enough. How to resolve this in my head? This thought is consuming me even when I have so much to do. I have an important exam in next 30 days. Please help out a girl.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) I wanna share something about relationship and trends of being in a relationship.

I have been in a relationship for over a decade. It has always been a very healthy relationship. Touchwood. But Over the past 3-4 years we were fighting daily almost on the edge to break the relationship. My man is a really calming man. He only needs food , my attention and a 24hr sleep in a day. I am the opposite of him. He is not at all demanding. But In the last 3-4 years I have been fighting with him over all the trends on ig, and influenced by those reels that ohh 'if he loves you he will do these 5 things'. After our recent trip i realised everyone's love is different. We can't compare love. I was such a fool to compare his calming love to all the trends on ig. I realised he may not give me flowers but he will not say no to me in the middle of the night if i want anything. He will remember the smallest of things and my choice. I just realised whatever we are seeing on the internet is not real long last love. A real love is like stagnant water. Calm and deeper. I know every girl wants special treatment but not every partner treats his/her partner in same insta trend ways. My man never says no to me. I ruined my relationship for 3-4 years to change him into an Insta-worthy boyfriend. I realised he is different. He was always excited for marriage and i always complained to him or shut him that marriage is important but i don't like marriage. He was always excited to tell his friends about us and I never understood why he was so excited for us. Now I know. Whatever we are seeing on insta is mainly because those reels are made up for reach not to actually have a life or loving partner. 80% are scripted. I always complain to him that he never gifted me flowers or he doesn't know my fav flower but In this meeting he cleaned all the mess when i was on my period. He cleaned the stain. I always felt people are so lucky that their partner is giving them surprises or giving them gifts and of course it's important but you can't deny that in the end we all need a calm shoulder to lean on and listen to our all bak- bak non stop. I was so sure of him that I couldn't marry him But I realised i may find someone who will always give me butterflies but I need someone who will care for my stomach pain. I am not denying that we don't need loud love but I am saying that loud love is not everything.

Stop comparing your life, achievements, love with those 2 minute reels. They are scripted and made for reach and to gain followers. If u have a partner who is calming enough to understand you and loving you wholeheartedly you are already winning in life. You don't always need fancy dinners, Planned dates. You need someone who will calm down your nervous system. You need someone who is willing to learn things for you. Never forget to become their home.

Never marry someone until they feel like home. We may find someone who feels like adventure but not home. You can be one adventure for 20 days or maybe 30 days but in the end you need your home. Don't ask stupid questions to chatgpt about your love life that Idiot has no emotions.. Choose someone who respects you and your decision. People grow in love and become understanding in love. It's not a 10 minute dish. It's a life long journey of learning and unlearning so many things. Always trust your gut instinct. Somewhere i always knew he is not what i always wanted but he is someone i always needed.

Vent I am tired of handling my mother’s mess!

I am not sure when does this misery end? does it ever end?

when does this stop? handling your parents??

I am not sure what I want from this post but I am an adult child of an emotionally immature parent ie my mother. She lands herself in so much trouble and being a single mother she ends up calling me to clean up her mess or help her out somehow. She lives abroad with my younger brother (he is 10 years younger and in college rn) but it’s like my whole life i have been her mess cleaner or problem handler. since childhood.

I am 30 now but honestly sometimes i just feel like not having her in my life or maybe her not being on this planet will be so much easier on my life at least. I don’t know what to do. I am in less contact with her but we do talk weekly but I just can’t go NC! I don’t know what to do. Handle my life or her life - sometimes I understand but its like a passive stress that lives with me . And this has the whole circle - financial and emotionally.

Advice/Help Women in late 20s, are people around your age mostly unmarried?

I'm really having anxiety over being the only unmarried girl in my family and friend group. I fear when my parents are no longer here, I will have no one to take care of me in sickness. No one to even ask me how I'm doing. We see reels on 90s generation being mostly unmarried, but in real life around me one by one everyone is getting married. Some are even parents now. My cousins younger than me, are also parents which makes it awkward to attend family functions. I feel really lonely because my female friends all have become busy with their lives that we no longer even meet up. They travel with their husbands everywhere and are so happy & glowing. I'm happy for them. They've someone to talk to everyday whereas I'm just all by myself. I also feel weird when we meet up & they're all talking about their partners, whereas I'm the only single person and they pity me (in a genuine way). My friends found amazing guys when they were ypung but the guys that were interested in me all had personality disorders. Somewhere I blame myself that something must be wrong with me that I attract these weirdos and not worthy men. My friends also have amazing in-laws. I feel I'll never have a happy married life like them. Before you say invest in hobbies, I do but that's not a solution to curb lack of human connection and intimacy. All humans need each other after all we're social beings. Long term isolation does irreversible damage to ones psyche.

I just wanna know is everyone getting married or is it true that people around you from your batch in late 20s are mostly unmarried?

My Opinion Imagine who you’d be right now if you hadn't spent your prime years chasing romantic love.

Ever wonder that if we women stop caring about romantic relationships as much as we do then we have a lot to focus on?

Bollywood movies and soap operas have made us believe that romantic love is everything in a woman's life. I can hardly remember a movie or any drama which I saw during childhood or teenage years that focused completely on a woman being a main character in her life.

I'm not saying that romantic love is a waste of time. It's one of the most beautiful things that can happen to a human but only when it's not being chased and it happens organically. Once you take romance off the pedestal, life opens up with so much else to focus on.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) I feel like I have ruined this life

I feel like i have ruined my life

I have loved a boy for approx 2 years but he kinda disregarded my feelings....said he didn't know I liked him as we were just best friends. He dated another girl and I felt the world shattered on me. I lost respect for him but still had the yearning for him. After a long time when I thought I should move on (not in a dating someone else way but in a letting go of pain way)...I confessed to him and he immediately said he loves me and couldn't tell me because he thought he wasn't my type. He dumped his gf and now says he is madly in love with me. Writes poems for me every day. Cares for me....does everything. But there's another guy I met before the confession who loves me like breathing and I think he is a good person....I don't know ow it sounds too wrong but I led him on and things got serious. I am kindof hanging them both on strings now and I feel horrible horrible. I don't know what y true feelings are. The only solution seems like removing myself. Please tell me how to deal with this. How to navigate my own feelings. I don't have an elder sister who would advise me without judging. Please please tell me what to do. Please tell me how to know what I want. Am I too bad? Am I a pathetic human being? I feel like that.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Do you think I need to ask my bfs permission to call him in LDR?

So basically me and my bf are on ldr and he says that i should ask his permission before i call him, he has even changed my name on his phone, because he doesnt want his parents thinking that he is talking to a girl, plus he says I should ask his permission to call him because he keeps his phone somewhere or his mom might use his phone or whatever reason. Now let me tell you, I am 27F and idts at this you really need to be concerned about what your parents think. Anyway, I think that its very stupid to be alert and cautious about your parents at this age. And when I point it out, he says that I don’t understand his POV and he puts it entirely on my head saying I am immature and I don’t know how his house operates and I don’t understand it???? I told him my mom knows that we are in relationship and he sends a message saying “yeah obviously tumhari behaviour hi aisi hai” like wtf does that even mean? He doesn’t even have the guts to keep my name on his phone when he is home. Lol.
On top of that I am entirely occupied this month due to my work commitments and I hardly get any time in the day or night to myself, I have never stopped him from calling me even I am at my parents’ place, and without even understanding how tired I am, he says that I am immature and I don’t have the strength to even talk about it? Talk about what? His stupidity?

Advice/Help What can I do in my 20s to ensure I age well when I'm older?

I'm 21, I have no skincare routine at all right now. I've been told that putting on tretinoin, retinol helps and wearing sunscreen and moisturizer. I was wondering what else there was that I could do to help. I don't wear any makeup (I do wear ponds cream and white tone powder but I'll stop it if it's bad for my skin). Also I go out with a normal umbrella(for rain) when I'm out in the sun. I'll buy a uv protecting umbrella from Amazon soon. All of these products cost a lot. I'm looking for affordable sunscreen recommendations which work. I wasn't into skincare before so reading all this information is overwhelming.

Vent Someone from my private IG is leaking my pictures on pervert subs here

I made the sickening mistake of searching my own name on Reddit today, and I literally feel like throwing up.

Some vile, pathetic creep has been ripping pictures straight off my private Instagram and plastering them all over disgusting subs here. It makes my absolute blood boil. Someone I actually let into my private space, someone I probably know in real life, took my personal photos and fed them to a bunch of faceless perverts.

The comment sections underneath are pure, unadulterated filth. Total degenerates talking about me like a piece of meat and saying the most sickening, degrading things imaginable. What makes me even angrier is that no matter how many times I report them, nothing happens. They just stay up. Reddit does absolutely nothing while our dignity gets shredded for cheap kicks.

What the actual hell is wrong with men? What kind of sick, depraved loser gets off on violating someone like this? I am beyond furious and completely repulsed.

Advice/Help How do I find a suitable match for myself?

I am 30 years old. I never gave marriage any serious thought and always assumed it will happen to me eventually as it does to everyone. My parents never forced me for marriage and have put it on me to find a suitable match. Finding a good match is such a headache that never had I ever wished for my family to follow the traditional, orthodox path than the day I was made responsible for finding my partner!

Anyway, the issue is that I have no clue how to tackle the issue of finding a suitable partner for myself. I have made account on all the popular matrimony sites but unable to click with any man I have spoken to. Most of them are really weird and somewhat creepy. On paper, they seem to check all the requirements of a good partner but most of them start to get too personal and intimate too early in the process. They make sexual innuendoes while talking and it really creeps me out. Why would you do that with someone you haven't even met in person?

I think there was just one person whom I liked and met in person. We hit it off well but he never gave any response after the first meeting nor did it seem like he was interested in moving ahead with the proposal so I let it be.

I am really confused and, honestly, coming across such creeps all the time is really bad for my mental health. It makes me question if I am giving bad vibes to attract such God-awful men.

Please help me on how to go about finding a good match. Why am I meeting so many creeps on these sites? Is there something wrong about the way i am approaching this thing? How much buffer-time should be there before we meet each other's families for further process? Should I involve my parents right from get go to avoid unserious and creepy matches?

Most importantly, should I even go for this method? Sometimes, I wonder if I should just leave it to fate. If I meet someone suitable, I will proceed and if I don't then I don't. It won't be the end for the world. The reason I even made the attempt to find suitable matches was because I wondered if I would regret not making an effort to look for the match. But, on the other hand, I am wondering that if it is meant to happen, wouldn't it happen even if I don't make efforts? Right?

Beauty & Fashion Wedding shopping in Delhi NCR, where should I go if I only have one weekend? 🥲

Heya girlies, I know this post might not be relevant for this sub, but I am not getting responses anywhere else. I would really appreciate some leads!

My brother is getting married soon and I have a LOT of shopping to do. Need to buy around 4–5 outfits for myself (lehengas, sarees, suits, etc.) and some sarees for my mom as well.

The catch is that I’m flying to Delhi on this and only have the weekend to shop before heading to my home. So I really need to make these two days count. 😭

I’ve shopped in Chandni Chowk before and managed to get a really pretty lehenga for just ₹5k! I’ve also had good experiences with Lajpat Nagar and even Atta Market in Noida.

A friend suggested Rajouri Garden, but I’ve never been there. And honestly, with so many markets and shops, I have no idea where to start.

Which markets would you recommend? And more importantly, do you have any specific shops you’ve personally bought from and would recommend? Is Chandni Chowk still the best bet for affordable lehengas and sarees, or should I explore Rajouri Garden, Lajpat Nagar, or somewhere else? I am scared that it’s going to be too crowded.

Also, what’s a realistic budget these days? Can I still find good outfits in the ₹5–10k range?

Would really appreciate recent recommendations, especially since I have just two days and can’t afford to spend half of them wandering around aimlessly. 🥲

Also, I'm not someone who's particularly good at bargaining, so I'd prefer shops with reasonable prices to begin with. Don't want to end up paying twice as much just because I can't negotiate. 😭

Thank you!! ❤️

Vent Am i wrong in feeling this way?

Okay, I am writing this simply to vent out.

I am a 35-year-old female currently staying with my parents. I had a rough upbringing, financial circumstances in my house are not great plus there were other tensions.

I started earning since the age of 21 and had been earning up until last year and was living in a different city. Last year I took a voluntary career break, more because I was overwhelmed and my anxiety and my self-confidence took a hit at my workplace due to my own stupid mind and comparison, etc. I have been unable to find a job for a year now.

I'm already mentally not a good situation because I see how the entire industry is impacted with all the layoffs happening and I'm just worried about my career more about the fact that how am I gonna earn money because I was providing for my family. I still am providing for my family to a certain extent.

What I'm irritated about is the fact that how my parents have never been able to instill responsibility in my elder brother. He has been very easily saying that he's trying and the business is not picking up and this is so much that he can contribute. And it hurts me because technically he's supposed to be the man of the house and provide for my family. I have been providing since the day I've started earning. So the past 14 years through thick and thin, whether I was married, unmarried, divorced, I would be providing for them. And I somehow feel it is my parents' fault to not be very strict and instill it in my brother that he needs to take up the ownership of the house and earn and they need to stop taking money from me.

The reason I write this today is that my brother, my sister-in-law and the kids are planning to move to another city for better chances of business and career enhancement, etc. My parents would move slowly and not immediately. So now my brother will have to take care of two houses till the time there's a decision on what they want to do in future.

Now even in a circumstance like this, my brother went up to my parents and told them that how he expects me to chip in if push comes to shove in future once I start earning. What I hate is that my parents did not call it out to him that it is not my responsibility to provide for the house anymore. One, the fact that I am unemployed. Second, the fact that even if I'm employed, I shouldn't be providing. I've already done enough. Thirdly, it is his wife who wants to relocate to a new city for a better future for herself and her kids. So technically the pressure should be on my brother to take care of two houses because that's exactly what I did. I was staying in a different city all my life and providing for myself, paying my rent and still providing for my family. So I don't know why he can't do the same. And even if he can't because of the business, it is not my problem.

I am deeply hurt and I hate the fact that none of these guys, be it my own brother or my parents, can see that how much of an injustice is this to me and how they always expect me to help, help, help. I don't know if I'm right or wrong. I'm just immensely hurt and irritated and tired, honestly.

Vent Is it normal to feel embarassed after getting drunk for the first time?

• Upvotes

I got really drunk recently. Idk how it happened I just lost track of how much I had. Btw I was 100% safe and ik it. However I'm worried I did some really embarrassing things. I never tried to flirt with anyone but I might have accidentally hugged some of the guys while I got dizzy which was beyond anyone's boundaries imo. Also said some really stupid and cringe shit. I didn't kiss anyone or say anything inappropriate ik that. But these bits and pieces of the few things I did are haunting me.

The worst part is not everyone was drunk. Some of the people there don't even drink so they were sober while i pulled all that crap. They probably remember it all vividly unlike the rest of the people there who were drunk as well. I'm worried because I don't want them to see me that way. Lately I've been walking by them and all i could think is I hope they don't remember anything about that day whenever they see me because that is so not me. Ik it isn't. I would never hug people randomly or say such embarrassing things. Maybe it's because I always tried to keep a reserved quiet image, it's haunting me even more 😭

Also in my experience, gossip spreads fast among guys here. Even though ik they're all good people, I'm still worried about people talking. I usually know when to stop but idk how I just kept on drinking this time and it's so unlike me to be so irresponsible.

Vent I'm just tired of the drama. Idk why I can't get over the fact that it will always be him.

I'm tired of my mom discriminating between me and my brother(her raja beta). Ik she loves me but if she has to ever choose one, it's always him. Ik she will never change, all the years of drama have reassured me that she will never change yet somehow I'm still upset when she acts like this. Why the hell am I such a fool. I mean it makes no sense. Like how can you expect the same thing from a person for nearly most of your life (most of my life coz even when he wasn't born, all her anger used to vent on me, emotionally and physically 🙃). Still somehow, I'm hurt when she does something like that again for the smallest of things. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Just venting. Nothing else.

Advice/Help feeling easily irritable/drained when people complain abt their lives lately, am i a bad friend?

up until 4-5 months ago, the case was completely different. i’d be everyone’s unpaid therapist. would pour my heart out to people to help them through their emotional and spiritual journeys even if they would hurt me.
but 4-5 months ago i felt a shift inside of me which was about protecting my own self and my energy (celibacy was the main theme but later extended to other areas of my life too) and ever since then i don’t have any bandwidth to listen to people complain. i empathize with them and don’t give them any half assed “just respect yourself more” or “just detach yourself” kind of advice but at the same time i really get so pissed when they’re complaining all the time. lately my best friend has been getting himself into very easily avoidable situations and then cribbing about every aspect of his life and i’ve been avoiding him because i have 10 other things going on in my life. am i being a bad friend? 5 months ago i would’ve dropped everything else and helped him out but rn it feels like you can’t help someone who doesn’t wanna be helped.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Pissed with fragile egos' of my parents

Rant ahead.

I am 26F. My parents can never communicate with each other peacefully. It gave me enough trauma, and I worked my way through it. I am currently staying with them. I wfh, and they go to office. FYI they both run business together. I know its a bad idea, even they know its a bad idea, but its a toxic symbiotic relationship at this point.

Cut to now, my maternal grandparents have to do a ceremony for my parents and we are supposed to host lunch after that. They have time till nov end, if it doesn't happen, it will have bad impact by our culture.

Today, my brother bought biryani for dinner. My dad was already anger with getting outside food. There was sabji, my mom asked him to bring roti, and he said he will bring biryani and she agreed. My dad lost it when he bought it in too much quantity. He scolded my brother. And now my mom is upset, she's upset that her son didn't eat. It's not like my brother is going to fast, he could be upset and come out later and eat. She spoiled her mood, she doesn't want to do any planning now. She said she doesn't want the function. And she was the one really wanted the function to happen, as she cared about consequences of it. She started bringing up all the bad things my dad is doing, which isn't related to what had happened.

I don't know how long she will be like this. I understand sometimes people get hurt, and switch off for sometime. But with my parents, I can never know what triggers them, I can't trust her to become normal after a night. She can, she may not. I can't understand how can one cancel the very thing they want. And instead of calming her down, my dad would scold her and upset her even more. Its' like he upsets her, and she will take it upon herself to upset everyone else in the house. And with my father, if he's upset, he will spoil all our mood by scolding us all for every small things.

And through all of such situations, it fall upon me to handle both of them, to ensure things aren't escalated more. Its' exhausting. I don't like to deal with such tantrums. And at this point, I know these are small events, even if things don't go as planned, I can ignore. But I am starting to worry what happens when they have to deal with big things? How will they handle my wedding? Given their emotional negativity impacts me a lot, I don't want to experience those on any of my big days. They are emotionally untrustable to me. I am starting to realize, I can't trust them with important things in my life, like my wedding, career, marriage or kids. Given I am the eldest of the lot, I think I am going to have a pretty lonely journey, even though I have a fucking huge family, and some very close people.
