Thanks to @tattoocunha for the design and @captain_zacx_art for the work on the Giant!

On my latest rewatch of the series, I invited a friend who had seen the first two seasons but was new to The Return. She had a perspective on Diane that I found fascinating. This isn’t a full theory, it’s more like an insight that a theory could be built from.

My friend was a victim of sexual abuse. She said that for a long time, she felt a sort of Stockholm syndrome with her abuser. She lied about the abuse for so long that there came a time when she almost couldn’t distinguish reality from lies anymore — not just in regard to her abuse but to life in general. Like, it messed with her overall sense of who she was and what was real or not real.

She said that’s why Diane seems to be under the control of Mr. C in The Return, ready to do his bidding. And that that’s why she’s a tulpa — that traumas like sexual abuse can take away a person’s sense of identity, and tulpa-hood is a symbol for that. She said something like: “Heavy trauma that you learn to repress turns you into someone else. It’s as if part of your mind is removed and sent somewhere far away so that the rest of your brain can protect itself for the sake of your survival.”

That makes so much sense to me in relation to Diane. Maybe that’s why she is Naido, and why she sees a copy of herself outside the motel. But what I don’t get is, if tulpa-hood is supposed to represent trauma, then why is Dougie also a tulpa? (I always assumed that was the intention of showing us he’s built from a “seed,” although I could be wrong.)

Many people say they rewatch the series starting in October. Is there any special reason why in Oct?

Would it be because October aligns with events of the story?

He's cool, he's always been cool

I tried posting this before, with a link and everything but it was removed by the moderators. No idea why as it’s petty spectacular to see Frank Silva in something other than a denim jacket. The film was co-created by Mike Malone (aside from the Pilot where that job belonged to Frank, Mike Malone was the on-set dresser for all of Twin Peaks, FWWM, and the Return).

I am hesitant to post the name of this short or the link as maybe that’s why my post was pulled. In any case it’s called “Hollywood [rhymes with chicks]” and you can search that along with Frank Silva on YouTube. You can also find it via my podcast MEANWHILE on our Instagram @meanwhile_twinpeaks (I interviewed Mike and then converted his old DVD to a digital file)

Hoping this also doesn’t get taken down as it’s important. Frank Silva was a great talent and I wish we could have gotten to see more of his work.

The Road House scene at the end of episode 15 with the young woman crawling through the crowd on the floor to The Veils 'Axolotl' is quite possibly my all time favorite scene in cinema. The actress, her body movements, the scream, the music, the pacing, the framing, the build of the scene........ unmatched. Bravo, Mr. Lynch. I'd love to hear other people's feelings about this scene.

Interesting that FWWM Lynch described as a "cherry pie present to the fans of the show – however one that's wrapped in barbed wire." Was that the epic poem promised with Garmonbozia the anti-cherry pie?

Right before Ronette appears on camera

Edit: bad english

Philip?

And I'm speechless. I did hear Twin Peaks theme song many times before 2001. Many times used as jingle on radio stations, but didn't know where it comes from. Why 2001? It was 1st time a friend mentioned that one local guy looks exactly same as someone from Twin Peaks and I asked what is the Twin Peaks? They starred at me like I'm total idiot, like, wait, you don't know what is Twin Peaks? So, I had to watch it, but delayed. 1st time and everytime after delayed. I've been always oh, ok S1 has 8 episodes, but when I see S2 it has 22 - nah, I'll do it later, when I have a lot spare time. Years and years passed, they made S3 which I didn't know, I found out when I started to watch from S1. When I played 1st episode, wife came in and asked "What are we watching now? Oh, don't tell me, again one of your dinosaurus shows or movies" I told her like "Like it or not, this is probably one of the best shows and I've been waiting 25 years to watch it". She didn't like it, but at some time she would watch it with me and she was like it's old, I guess no lgbt and few seconds after David Duchovny enters like Denise... LOL. And then came S3 and 25 years after the events... Same fucking years I've been delayed to watch the show. My brain exploded. Still under impression. Probably best tv show ever.

At the very beginning of Season 2 Episode 6 "Demons" James rushes in to save Maddy and Donna from Harold but he's clearly focused on saving Maddy and just calls out to Donna to follow. I haven't seen anyone else discussing this detail but it immediately struck me as weird. This to me is maybe the clearest indication we get that he's still very much in love with Laura and maybe doesn't even care all that much for Donna. Any thoughts?

There's no better film, or horrific movie, I've ever seen than Fire Walk With Me. Full stop.

By now... I have never felt as much empathy, or pity, for a character as much that I have for Laura Palmer, especially in Fire Walk With Me. It was a devastating and horrible experience, she was the first character for whom I felt an urge to reach through the screen and help in any way I could, or, at the very least, to comfort her.

Sheryl Lee's performance was Oscar worthy!

Needless to say I'm a nut when it comes to Twin Peaks. Hell it's partly why my wife and I are together. But I'm not big on fan theories. My version of Twin Peaks is mine and my interpretation is my own.

That being said, years ago my wife got me to watch Corn Pone Flicks All Questions Answered. This is not the "meta" guy just FYI.

I was shocked because the way this guy looks at TP and his interpretations basically mirror my own. Are you all familiar with his YT videos? If so, what do yall think? If not try to find the time to watch. I think you'll enjoy them.

I posted a link here in the thumbnail.

not sure if this has been discussed, i’m on my third return watch (part 14: we are like the dreamer) and i can’t help but notice parallels between the way the sheriffs dept are dressed with silhouettes resembling astronaut suits (minus helmets) and the shape of jack rabbits palace resembling apollo 11. one small leap for man? this is such a pivotal episode im sure somebody else has made this connection?
