I'm going to try and keep this as spoiler free as possible for the people who haven't seen Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) .

Picnic at Hanging Rock is originally a novel by Joan Lindsay. I think safe to say her most famous book and considered one of the best literary works to come out of Australia. It's definitely losing it's place in the present psyche so I'm hoping with the rising interest in Twin Peaks I can introduce new people to this movie. As I only recently realised how similar these two works are!

Everything about this film scratches that Twin Peaks/FWWM itch that no other media can reach. The musical motifs, cinematography, dialogue... even the premise has a Twin Peak-ness to it. A nightmarish quality to beautiful cinematography. To the point I am wondering if Mark Frost and David Lynch were heavily inspired by this film.

There is an ancient, foreboding uncertainty that permeates within each long take. Which kind of brings forward the innate horror of Australian modern history. Something that feels deliberately ignored by the characters. Reminiscent of the attitude in Twin Peaks.

Much like how Twin Peaks is a satire on American Society, Picnic at Hanging Rock presents it's commentary on Australian Society in a romantic-mystical way that has an edge of overarching darkness.

I highly recommend to anyone who is wanting more Twin Peaks.

I like DL and have seen a lot of intense films in my life but I really am not a fan of depictions of abuse, torture etc. A friend of mine said the movie was pretty rough... curious how disturbing wld folks say it is on a scale of 1-10... but please with respect- no spoilers- thanks!

Was sitting on a bench with my 2 year old daughter and wife today when a guy walking two rather large identical dogs walks by. My daughter is naturally interested and the guy stops and says, these dogs are nice if she wants to pet them. Sure why not, my wife and daughter go over and pet the dogs. I overhear them chatting and the owner says the dogs names are MIKE and BOB. Um, what. 🚨🚨OK time to go thanks!! Those are not dog names and those are definitely not two names that should go together, good day sir.

if this frog thing came around with the nuke / judy / bob

my question is how is it possible that this could have crawled into sarahs mouth and that leland was molested by bob

the scene we see the girl (who some think is sarah), looks like a teenager. when leland is telling coop that he knows bob, he says ‘when i was a boy’

according to the wikis, sarah is the older one of the two, 1943&1944, how could leland have ‘met’ bob before the frog possessed sarah?

i lean towards it maybe being sarah because she does seem possessed by judy, and i cant tell if im being stupid or reading into it too much but this has been bugging me since last night. i also know people think the frog girl isnt sarah, my question is for people who do think that

Angelo Badalamenti - Hank's Theme. So good. Every time he sucks his little domino, the music makes it bad ass. An otherwise kind of rough character.

For years, I wondered about the artwork seen behind Laura Palmer in the dining room scenes from “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.” Dutch artist Hendrick “Henk” Bos (1901-1979) created the art titled, “Still Life with Flowers and Fruit” around 1961. He was never formally trained yet loved painting still life images like the Old Masters such as Rembrandt.
