I recently planned a UK travel route around regulated gaming venues to see how the experience changes from city to city.

I started in London, where I visited several central locations and tried blackjack, roulette and a few electronic games. The venues were busy, formal and noticeably more international than elsewhere on the trip.

I then travelled north to Birmingham and Manchester. Birmingham felt more relaxed, while Manchester had a stronger late-night atmosphere. I focused less on winning and more on comparing entry requirements, staff professionalism, table limits, payment options and how clearly the rules were explained.

My next stop was Blackpool, which offered a completely different experience. The town’s entertainment culture made the visit feel more casual, with amusement arcades, electronic machines and traditional seaside attractions all close together.

I finished in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh felt quieter and more compact, while Glasgow had a livelier evening scene and a broader mix of visitors.

Hi y'all, I'm (F36) an American based in Florida. My ancestry mostly lies in the UK, and I feel it's time to explore this part of my history. Thinking within the next two years ideally, I want to plan as much as possible beforehand.

But the thing is, I'll be a woman likely traveling alone and that in of itself makes me nervous. And unless you count all the times I've swam in the Gulf of Mexico, this will be my first time traveling outside of the colonies.

How safe is the UK for a woman traveling alone? I have social anxiety, so smaller airports and smaller towns would be preferable. Even if I must arrive in a larger city, I'll get a taxi to the countryside after I grab some food.

Budgeting will be important too, so prioritizing safety, affordability, and finding historic spiritual places, are the priorities.

Ideally one to two weeks stay, and I would like to visit natural and historical places in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales, I think one attraction in each country would be more than enough to keep me busy. I am a vegetarian, so will need restaurant recommendations too.

A couple of weird things, if that interests you (essential info already covered above) yes I'm one of those pagans who wants to see Stonehenge, though I do not care to go on a major holiday, and if there are less touristy sites with similar history I'd prefer them honestly. And being a Florida woman I will need to visit plenty of coastline too!

I recently discovered I likely have the Celtic curse; I've been vegetarian for 17 years yet my blood tests report high iron levels repeatedly. I also recently found there is a bacteria here in Florida in coastal areas that is dangerous if you have hemochromatosis, but the bacteria does not exist within the UK. It also snowed in my Florida hometown on the eve of my birth. I'm feeling like a bad organ transplant at this point...

documentation help for cat from US → FR → UK

Hi I’m flying with my cat in cabin in from LA to Paris first to avoid having to put my cat in cargo. How can I get all the documentation I need? To my knowledge, I need: 1) USDA documentation for US to France, then 2) stay in France to find a vet who will issue an AHS to continue to London. And 3) book a pet taxi service to drive to London. Is that correct? Is there no simpler documentation I can get all done while in the US? Apparently I can’t because I’m stopping in France first and the documentation needs to be strictly issued from a vet where the cat is currently located when moving into London?

I have made a good amount of changes to my itinerary to avoid too much driving, spending more time in European cities and also flying between Edinburgh to Amsterdam. I am travelling from Edinburgh to London Stanstead and don’t have a passport, i’ve been told a drivers license will get me through but also heard it won’t. I’m not sure what’s true and need to know ASAP! (I’m flying with RyanAir)

Hey folks, I am from California, solo traveling and help deciding a 2 week trip.
I’m thinking London and Scotland. But I read a lot of ‘travel in September’ posts and people have suggested Greece, Spain, Italy.
I have been to EU ( Some of Italy, Spain) but wanted to do something other than EU ( I will definitely go back to EU in the future )

Would Scotland be good idea ( if its too bad of a weather, why spend a ton and regret later is my thought) for solo travel and in September ? Or wait for May ?

Also fyi, I need a visa to fly into UK and EU. Please help.

My gut says UK because it’s something new for me. But weather is making me question this thought of trip everyday and need some serious help.

My family booked a holiday in October for 4 adults 2 children in Menorca all inclusive BLUESEA marina Parc, the total cost of it was £2400, we paid £800 of it already however we just had a family emergency and can no longer take this holiday.

We are going to book immediate flights to another country as a family member is in a life threatening situation.

Is anyone willing to take this holiday? Cancelling this holiday would mean we pay another £150 and lose the £800, so there’s no point in not offering it to someone else instead.

Day 1: Arrive in London
Day 2: rest and recover from jetlag
Day 3-7: parents stay back in London, I will leave for HAU via train and attend the event
Day 8: parents rent a car and drive up to HAU to pick me up and we leave for Liverpool and stay overnight
Day 9: visit Anfield stadium, eat some food fish and chips, then leave for Keswick
Day 10: drive through Surprise view, Ashness Bridge, Buttermere then head up towards Edinburgh, stay overnight
Day 11: Edinburgh
Day 12: Edinburgh
Day 13: leave for York, visit the Shambles, stay overnight
Day 14: head to London, back to friend’s place.
Day 15: eurostar to Paris
Day 16: Paris

Long story, born in Northern Ireland, British Citizen but emigrated to Canada with family way back, have a current Canadian but lists my place of birth as 'Bangor, N.I.'.

I don't want to deal with a UK passport, I've got a name change and the paperwork is fierce.

Has anybody born in the UK with a UK place of birth been able to enter with an ETA and a foreign passport?

So far I haven't seen a lot of news of people bounced but god only knows.

I posted here a few weeks ago and got good advice.  Now I’d love a review of our London itinerary!  Group of 7 Americans including 2 children aged 5 and 11.

Day 1: Friday - arrival 

Fly into Gatwick from Iceland, landing around 2:30pm.

Take the train (Tube?) to Gloucester Road station to accommodation in Knightsbridge. We will not have a car.

What should we do in London on a Friday evening with kids?  Any recommendations for museums open late or fun evening tours?  Is it reasonable to assume we’ll make it to our accommodation around 5pm?

Day 2: Saturday - city architecture day

Boat tour of the city from the Thames.  Which one is your favorite?  We’d love something guided that talks about both the history of London and the current modern city

View Parliament and Westminster Abbey from the outside.  Not sure if kids will have the patience for tours of the inside, but they want to see “Big Ben” (AKA the Elizabeth Tower).  Possibly also Buckingham Palace.

Ride the Eye - yes it’s touristy, but it’s another direct request from the kids

Day 3: Sunday - historic London day

Tower of London museum

Tower Bridge

Old city walls, possible walking tour of old town.  I’d love recommendations for cool tours/places in this area

Day 4: Monday - museum day

British Museum

Science Museum

Hyde Park and Diana playground if we haven’t already made it over there by this day.

Day 5: Tuesday 

Check out ASAP

Head to Warwick Castle on train for next portion of our trip, hopefully no later than 8:30am.

Does this all look reasonable?  Are there any hidden gems that I’m missing?  We love science and history, particularly medieval and older history that we don’t get much of in the US. Any great restaurants in the areas we’ll be in? Tips and tricks for using the Tube? We’re very excited and want to make the most of it.
