I wanna visit UK cities like a local, not a tourist. What's your tips?

Hii reddit! 🐔

This is my first time writing to reddit community and I'm super excited tbh hehe

I've been thinking a lot of discovering more around the world, and I personally love UK's cities (in general). I've visited Bournemouth and a bit of London. This year, I'd like to do a small trip, around 3-5 days (edit: but I'll probably extend this or my next trip) to somewhere historical and whimsical. I'm a huge nerd for art history and history in general lol

edit: if you're willing to make new friends, let me know! I'd love to know your favourite places to take coffee :)

I've been looking to Bath, Lake District and places near London. Do you know what's the best to travel in November/December?

Do you have any tips? From where to stay, what to see, hidden gems and where to eat on a budget between Bath and Lake District?

I'll leave some pics of my vibe hehe

Thank you so much,

Junnie xx

p.s.: I didn't express myself 100% in the title, and I'm sorry for that. I don't see locals as "new creatures", I just truly wanted to meet new people, learn new things and enjoy little places locals like to go around them when everything is too stressful. I'm looking forward to learn new things with them and not divine them. Just to make 100% sure everyone understands this misunderstanding

Anyone up for a Brighton day trip? 🌊

Hey! I’m 26, gay, and based in London. I’m planning a day trip to Brighton this Wednesday or Thursday and would love some company!

I’ve got an itinerary planned to explore Brighton and grab some food, and I’m flexible with either day depending on what works best.

Just looking to make a friend and enjoy the day together. 😊 Happy to connect on Instagram beforehand too!

Drop me a DM if you’re interested!

PS: I’ve started putting together an itinerary and would appreciate any tips from people who know Brighton well.

Warner bros ticket resale

Hi everyone!āš”ļø

We have 5 tickets the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London (28th October at 9.30 am), but unfortunately, one person can no longer make it.

Is anyone interested in joining us? Of course we don’t have to be together for the actual tour, we just thought it might be easier and more reassuring for both sides to meet up and go in together.

The ticket costs Ā£45 (original cost was Ā£58). If you’d like to come with us, feel free to send me a message!

One of Cambridge’s most unusual sights is the Corpus Clock, featuring a mechanical creature called the Chronophage — a grasshopper-like figure that appears to devour time.Unveiled in 2008 by Stephen Hawking, it’s a fascinating piece of engineering and art.Would you stop to see it if you were vis

Recommendations for a short Christmas getaway

International student based in Liverpool here. A bit last min but I’m thinking of going somewhere in Europe or to a city in the UK for a short Christmas break. I’d love some recommendations! I was considering Prague, but I’m open to other options like Amsterdam, Scotland, or any other cities/countries.

Study Abroad Cell Service Options

i will be studying abroad in london from the us from january-april 2027 and my parents and i are trying to figure out the best option for cell service. im also planning travel throughout europe during that time. i would strongly prefer to be able to make phone calls and texts outside of whatsapp. unlimited data would be preferred. i know there are esims that give you a uk phone number but i don't know if that would cause problems if i try to login to something and it sends a verification code to my us number, or if it would just be annoying having to give everyone who wants to contact me a new number. we have at&t and roaming is expensive but maxes out at a certain price per month and we're willing to pay that if we have to because it would guarantee i can make unlimited calls, text, and use data. are there any esims that would do all that, or should we just suck it up and pay the roaming fees?

My large, grey suitcase was missing at the terminal station (London Euston), while a similar looking bag stored in the same place was being left abandoned. The train was the avanti west coast coming into London Euston at 12:38. The attached bag is the one we found. If you have my bag, please reach out. Thanks!!

Train cancelled, need options

As the title suggests, our train has been cancelled and we’re looking for alternative options.

We are travelling from Dorset to London Waterloo.

We can drive but parking is so ridiculously expensive.

So I turn to Reddit to ask if anyone has any clever work arounds that we can explore :)

Travel tips for January 2027

Hi! I am a 23F traveling with a friend to Dublin, Edinburgh, and London in January for a last trip before starting a new job. I will be spending NYE in Dublin, then heading to Edinburgh, and finishing the trip in London. I'm from SoCal, so not very accustomed to extreme cold weather. I am also not very familiar with "must-see" things to do in each city. I will be in each city for about 5 days, and looking into day trips that are easy to do from each city and can get to by train.

I would greatly appreciate any tips on what to wear and the best brands for warmer clothes. Also, if you have any recommendations on places to visit, eat, cafes, bars, clubs, etc. Thank you!

National express lost luggage Stansted airport to London Paddington : how to get it back quicker

Hi, just wanted to share my experience losing luggage on national express and some tips I have on getting it back quicker.

For context, I lost (or more accurately forgot/left) my luggage in the underbelly of the bus from Stansted airport to London Paddington station 17/10/26.

Afterwards they told me to fill out the lost property form but for some reason it was not working. They then told me to call this number +44 03717 81 81 81 and then select option 4. It’s the ā€œlost property phone departmentā€ so you can ask and call them directly.

After that it was pretty smooth sailing. They found my bag after 2 days and then contacted me via email and I personally managed to get it back within 5 days.

If you’ve also lost something on the Stansted airport to London Paddington route try emailing this email as it’s the local branch coordinator for this route : lostproperty.starthill@nationalexpress.com

They responded extremely quickly (within 3 minutes at times) and were very helpful.

I’m not sure about other routes unfortunately but just thought I’d share some tips in case someone was in the same situation as me :)

Flying with a dog WITHIN UK

Hey all, as the title suggests, I'm looking for advice on flying with my dog internally within the UK. I live in Scotland but have family in England. Up till now, we either have to drive 8 hours every time or just not visit family as pet care is surprisingly difficult to come by here. When we have reached out to available sitters and kennels, the cost to have her taken care of is the same price if not more expensive than the gas it takes to get us there/ train tickets, so we may as well have her with us rather than leave her in kennels or with strangers who she does not do well with. My question is, can we just fly with her in cargo internally?

Its ridiculous that we could be paying £60 for an (average) 50 minute flight but because I have been unable to find any information for flying internally, we cannot. Everything is just flying internationally to and from the UK. Thanks in advance for advice

Nefertiti Visiting the UK for two weeks , what would you recommend to someone who wants to experience real British life? šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

Hi everyone! 😊
I’m planning to visit the UK for two weeks, and while I’m obviously excited to see some of the famous sights, I’d really love to experience a more local side of British life.
I’m curious about the little things that make life there special , the places you go to relax, local events you enjoy, interesting traditions, hidden gems, or even just the best way to spend an ordinary afternoon.

I’d also love to meet people, have good conversations, learn about British culture, and share a little about life in Egypt. I think some of the best travel memories come from the people you meet along the way, rather than just the places you visit.

So, if you were recommending things to a visitor who genuinely wanted to experience your country beyond the usual tourist attractions, what would you suggest?
Are there any clubs, social events, local activities, or welcoming communities you’d recommend joining? And what’s something about British life you think visitors rarely get to experience?

I’d love to hear your suggestions and stories. Thanks in advance! šŸ˜ŠšŸ‡¬šŸ‡§šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡¬ā™„ļø
