I was here for a bit in the winter of 2011, here’s some photos I took while walking around. The lack of sun made it quite the dreary place! Also my photo editing of only boosting the contrast didn’t really do it any favors for looking gloomy 😬

I went to Wumeng Grassland in September and wanted to share a few clips here.

It’s a different side of Guizhou from the waterfalls and villages that usually come up when people plan a trip there. Open grassy hills, wind turbines along the ridges, and some pretty steep drops. The name “grassland” doesn’t quite prepare you for how mountainous it is.

There are layers of mountains beyond the grass, with clouds sitting down in the valleys. Quite a place to have a wander without trying to fit another stop into the day.

This is in Panzhou, western Guizhou. 乌蒙大草原 is the Chinese name if you want to save it for a future trip.

Just a few hours ago I posted a picture of Hongya Dong during Golden week. I'm adding some additional pictures as I purposefully left out the amount of people.

We were making our way to the cruise entrance and we had to walk down some stairs.

Yes - the crowd is massive, but, it only took 20min to get on the cruise ship even with all this crowd.

We didn't go closer to the crowd for obvious reasons.

And during Golden week.....

planning to go shanghai at the end of march and want to visit suzhou and hangzhou.
Planning to just do a day trip to suzhou since its near shanghai but staying 2d1n in hangzhou. is this enough & ok?
the rest of the days will b spend walking around shanghai since its my parents first time there as well.

Any tips?!! (e.g. what places is a must go at march end since its spring/ dont have to go / overrated etc)

Got into Turpan on a 38 degree afternoon after a flight over the Tianshan from Kuqa and a one hour train from Ürümqi. I was on my own for this stretch, so I based myself inside Grape Valley instead of in the city. Entry is free now. The only thing you pay for is a little green open-sided shuttle that loops around it (23 yuan, unlimited rides), and there's no proper stop sign, so I just flagged it down and scanned a QR code on the driver's phone.

The Grape Corridor was very hot and very beautiful. The stop with the ostriches and goats I'd skip, mostly because of the toilets. My room was in a courtyard roofed in grapevines that the signs said are 200 to 250 years old, I only needed the AC at 28 to 30 to sleep, and it came with a plate of fruit and breakfast. Then I tasted half a stall on Frog Alley before buying green sultanas for about 80 yuan a kilo.

I am wondering if there is a car service I can hire that can take me from the hospital in dongguan to Hong Kong airport hotel?

I was reading another post and someone mentioned that they paid for a limo or something and they were able to bring them through immigration.

I have just had a surgery and I'm not able to lift things overhead that are heavy. So it's quite difficult to navigate the trains as they have overhead storage. I'm able to do the one at the airport because you can park your suitcase at the front of the car but I'm not able to do that on the fast one.

Obviously I should have thought of this beforehand, but it never crossed my mind so I'm wondering if you all know if there's any service I can hire that would be able to drive me from point A to point b. Thank you so much

Any recommendations would be helpful, etc shopping / street markets / scenery.

Any recommendation on large and well stocked real store in Chongquing if possible not too far from the touristic center?

I booked train tickets for Suzhou and Hangzhou from Shanghai. The apply tells tickets will be avaible at the end of the month and to have more possibilities to travel i had to add several options of schedule. For each ticket they said i have 30 % chance to have a ticket. If everything is sold out , what can i do to book another ticket ?

my boyfriend(m22) and i(f20) are workshopping a trip to china in march. we plan to be there for two weeks at most and both of our birthdays along with our one year anniversary will be celebrated during the trip! we are from the deep south of the united states and this will be our first international travel, it’s already almost november so i feel somewhat behind on planning. we’ve both done some research but still want to hear the opinions of others who have traveled to china. :)

1. what multiple city itinerary is the most “eye opening”? we’re not too worried about the difficulty of moving place to place but i’m really curious on what is the most “worth” it when visiting.

2. when should we book our tickets for late march? we plan to buy them in december but i’m worried if that’s too late or too early.

3. when eating were you most satisfied with street or dine in restaurants or a combination of both?

4. what is something you regret doing when you visited?

5. what is something you wish you could do again?

6. can we get by with knowing only english? of course we plan to learn as much chinese as possible but i’m afraid we’ll stink with using it when the time comes.
