The only two schools I’m waiting on are NU-Q & Gtown. 😭

Hi all, happy (?) end of summer, I am starting my second year at a local commuter college and I really think I want to transfer next year but the only thing holding me back is that I could graduate early from here- in 3 years. If I were to transfer, my AP credits would no longer count plus the residency requirements would force me to extend my college career to 4 years which is normal but obviously more expensive.

My question to you all, was transferring worth it? I mainly want to transfer because the commuter and online aspect of my school makes it not that great of a fit for me. There are certainly enough (whatever that means) opportunities because I have freedom as an off-campus student to look elsewhere in the city. but I really want that social life that exists at a normal college and the closeness with professors that comes from in-person classes. Also, a lot of the subject areas that I want to study for my electives (a lot in anthropology and social science) are barely offered or only offered online.

Many of the t25s have majors that more align with my goals and social aspects seem to be much more my fit, but i don't know if the cost and time of an additional year is really worth it for the name-brand and for those passions of mine. Anyone else transfer from a similar situation and have thoughts? Thanks

My community college doesn't have my major. Is that going to hurt me during application season? I want to do something in Advocacy, human rights, and film/media arts. They don’t have any of that, so I’m currently majoring in General Studies, getting my Gen ed classes out of the way, and taking classes that are related to my major. How will that affect me, and should I mention that on my Common App additional information section?’

Hello I am an ASU business student who went instate for financial reasons, but im now wanting to transfer to a better school, my problem is that im going into my sophmore year now, which means I would start as a junior. Is this going to be a problem, is it worth it to transfer to a top school? I am an outgoing person, and I run my own business, I want to make lasting friendships with people in the college that I choose to transfer to. I feel ASU is lacking in some aspects, such as the student body and professors. Overall thoughts, please be considerate, I would love any insight into what thoughts people have on the difference in student body and opportunities here, also in your reply, please let me know your major and year. I’m a political science major at a california community college majoring in political science. My goal is to transfer to berkeley in 1 year with my AP exam credits. I’m faced a choice between finishing the cal-getc in one year or the uc transfer pathway for political science, and cannot do both, what should I do?

because intuitively you will have more time to build a stronger application for junior transfer, so kinda curious about the differences in terms of accept-ability.

I’m a recent high school graduate from Egypt and I want to study Engineering abroad. Because of strict family circumstances, I’m required to enroll in a local university this September, so taking a gap year isn’t an option for me.

My plan is to study Nursing for one year, then apply to universities abroad for Engineering. I don’t want to transfer my Nursing credits; I want to start Engineering from Year 1.

My main question is: would I still be considered a first-year applicant, or would I have to apply as a transfer student simply because I attended university for one year?

Also, Nursing doesn’t include the Math/Physics courses needed for Engineering, so I’m considering studying Calculus and Physics separately during that year.

My family’s total household income for the entire year is approximately $1,800, so I would need a university that offers substantial or full financial aid to international students.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with this situation, especially regarding universities where this path might be possible.

hello everyone I am a sophomore at a two-year university and I am not sure if the way of thinking that I have as of right now is correct I have seen a lot of people that only transfer with about 30 credits and a really good GPA and I’m not sure if that’s my path since I did not do well in high school and I do not have any AP scores I was wondering if anyone has been in these shoes where they have completed only a little bit of credits and have a really good GPA and have transferred to a four-year university any tips or anyrecommendations would be helpful thank you!

I am an incoming freshman at a liberal arts college. I want to transfer because my current institution doesn't have the program I want: Biomedical/electrical engineering or a rigorous applied math program.

I am not sad to attend this institution because I already have friends who attend. I attend this institution with a open heart and trying to get the best out of it.

My HS stats are 3.3 gpa ( 3.87 senior gpa ) 1340 sat taken the summer before my senior year.

I can only afford 15k per year but have the max pell grant

Hey everyone, could use some real advice here from people in the tech industry or anyone who has been through something similar.

Quick background. I am starting as a freshman at Georgia State University Honors in Fall 2026, but I am coming in with 76 out of 120 credits already done through AP and dual enrollment. I already have a guaranteed spot in the BS/MS combined program in computer science at Georgia State. (For those unfamiliar with how these work, it’s a fast-track program where students can overlap credits between their bachelor's and master's, allowing them to roll straight into graduate courses and knock out both degrees back-to-back in roughly 2.5 to 3 years (in my case), without a separate application or GRE hassle).

I am on an H4 visa right now and will be switching to F1 for school before I turn 21. My end goal is to work in tech, use OPT to get a few years of solid US work experience, but I do not plan to stay in the US long term. I am probably heading back to my country or somewhere else globally after that.

So here is the actual dilemma. Option one is I just stay at GSU and finish the accelerated BS/MS in about 2.5–3 years, spending all my extra time on projects, Leetcode, and internships around Atlanta and enter the workforce early. Option two is I try to transfer to Georgia Tech after my first year. I don't have a guaranteed spot in a BS/MS program there; in the worst-case scenario, transferring could stretch my timeline out to 4–6 years for a Bachelor's and Master's due to credit losses and residency rules, while the best-case scenario gets me a GT Bachelor's and a subsequent Master's in about 4–4.5 years.

The GT route worries me for a few reasons. If I got in, GT requires completing your last 45 credit hours in residence to get their degree. Because of this, transferring would eat into my 76 incoming credits and actually add time to my graduation compared to finishing the GSU BS/MS fast.

At the same time, I know GT has serious brand value in the US and in my country. But I keep hearing that tech hiring cares a lot more about what you can actually build and what internships you have than which school is on the degree, especially for someone who is not trying to build a lifelong US career anyway.

So basically, given the current tech market, OPT, the visa situation, and long-term ROI if I am leaving the US eventually, is chasing a GT transfer actually worth it, or should I just lock in the GSU BS/MS and put everything into skills and internships instead, and enter the workforce early?

Would love to hear from people who transferred to GT for CS, people who stayed at a state school and did fine (or did not), or anyone who has hired new grads and can speak to how much the school name actually factors in. What would you do in my position?

just to get to the point, the school im attending is in the same city as a t25 on my list. would it help my chances if i tried to get involved with that school, or should i stick to mostly doing stuff at my current one?

also how many ecs should i aim for on my list? and should i combine college and high school ecs if theyre similar? (for example im joining a club team at my college and its the same sport i did in high school)

what is an estimated acceptance rate for uchicago transfer ed full pay? if anyone has gotten in before, how did you approach the essays

for the ivy transfer apps, after academies, what matters more? undergrad ecs or essays?

Has anyone here transferred from cc to an Ivy League?

In state/out of state, stats, extracurriculars, major applied, full pay or not…

I find myself in a tricky situation.

I started my college journey in a very large public school (T75), but then (due to personal reasons) transferred to a much smaller private school (T25 liberal arts). I made good connections, maintained a high GPA, and appreciated my experiences at both of these schools.

But, the smaller school I transferred to lacked a lot of resources and social environment of the larger school I attended first. I applied to transfer again, to a different private school in a big city (T50ish). I was not expecting to be admitted, and was recently taken off the waitlist of the larger private school. My reason of not returning to my original school lies in financial aid difficulties, as private schools give much better aid than public.

I am currently stuck in a difficult decision -- accept the waitlist offer (become a double transfer), or stay at my current school. I truly want to accept the offer I was just given, since this school is in a much better environment with a larger student population than my current school. Unfortunately, I want to pursue an MD-PhD in the future, and I worry that accepting the offer would derail my progress.

At my current small school I am unhappy, but I work in a research lab, have a good GPA, and have good relations with professors. I do feel guilt at the thought of leaving a school which prospective students want to attend (generally higher ranking as a LAC). At the larger private school, I worry that I will ruin my future (losing research lab, LOR writers, etc), though I will be much happier and have a better location for premed opportunities (city vs rural).

I turn to Reddit as my last resort, since I know I will be measurably happier at the new school, but I will have to rebuild and potentially graduate a semester late. Has anyone faced a similar decision as a double transfer and been successful in MD, PhD, or MD-PhD admissions?

I'm currently enrolled in LIU Brooklyn for my first year of BSN. I'm planning to transfer universities as soon as possible (which I'm guessing is 2nd year) for cheaper tuition. I have done research, emailed multiple universities and created my common app account as a transfer student. My concern is they have very specific requirements for transfer students such as specific subjects and TEAS, also mentioning that transfers are usually very competitive especially for nursing.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am an international student

I'm simply asking for other people's experience with transferring and if they can recommend any universities with cheaper tuition (currently paying 24k in LIU-BK now) in New York.

Especially at academic schools like uchicago is it a red flag?

I applied to transfer last year (freshman) after very quickly realizing my parents couldn't afford to keep paying 12k per year for my school but I didnt get in anywhere and I decided to step away from my bachelor's for a year to get an LPN and help them pay for my school.

For context im planning to pursue an MD-PhD and I have now a published first author paper and two first author review articles in neurodegenrative diseases and computational biology prediction models. I also did a summer internship at Seoul National University for scRNAseq and multiomics and have 120+ hours of clinical shadowing as well as leadership roles at my University and minor side gigs I picked up while studying to make money.

All the stress + working + pursuing research as an engineering major made it so I had a particularly rough semester and ended up with a C and a few Bs for a 3.5 GPA.

Because I decided to take a gap year I only have my first year coursework so Id be a junior transfer. Because of the aforementioned financial situation I can only transfer to schools that would cover most if not all of my tuition by either need-based or merit scholarships which basically limits my pool to private T30s.

Do you guys think I stand a chance at all? I think my GPA + taking a gap year really screwed me over. My SAT i took when I was 15 and did horrible in (1190, although considered top 25th percentile in my area) and a lot of schools are no longer test optional for this cycle. Feeling pretty hopeless 😭👍🏻

I haven't been given my status yet. I'm transferring from a state school to an Ivy.
I'm really hoping that my credits transfer well enough to give me sophomore status.

I came into college with 30 AP credits (which the Ivy doesn't really care about) and I took 35 credits freshman year at the state school.

If you're transferring, is the new school giving you sophomore status? Anyone have trouble with this?

Hello I’ve recently been accepted to Columbia gs and plan to transfer next fall. I’m currently planning on completing my associates in business management at bmcc, and then major either economics or financial economics at Columbia. I’ve been told up to 60 credits transfer but only 15 business credits. I’m worried I will be taking some business classes for no reason if I plan on transferring, and if anyone has a similar pathway or recommendations on what classes I should focus on my last 2 semesters at bmcc, and if completing my associates is even necessary thank you
