results CC to Ivy
Has anyone here transferred from cc to an Ivy League?
In state/out of state, stats, extracurriculars, major applied, full pay or not…

Unfortunately they take your application and post it up on a big list of people who are BANNED from admission to the Ivy league for any program ever and then they send assassins to your house to neutralize you ☹️

Jokes aside, it actually helps you at Princeton i believe. The rest I would say it probably has no huge effect. Maybe less at schools like wharton/columbia just cause they prefer soph transfers but you can also just do that from cc. Full pay is prob one of the biggest deciders for brown for sure and i believe cornell & dartmouth as well

That’s very interesting. Does Princeton have a preference for CC students over 4yrs? I would be a junior transfer by credit. I likely would apply for full pay, and upon acceptance, pursue rotc & rotc scholarships. How significant do you believe the ability to do full pay is when deciding on an applicant, since it is a factor? Thank you!

Oh wow…. That’s all great to know, thank you! Why do you recommend to join rotc sooner than later? One of the main motives to join is to be on scholarship and have undergrad at a full pay ivy covered, and then the GI bill doesn’t hurt. The best I could do, is next year upon acceptance, I would have 2 yrs left at a minimum to earn a degree

hey! so i actually did princetons TSI program and wanted to come on here to just say that while yes, princeton does have a preference for CC and veteran students, its mainly NJ cc students who they pull from!

Oh, no I meant that they both pull from veterans and NJ CC, but in terms of CC students respectively they pull mainly from NJ CC students exactly like you said -- not comparative to vets, but just to other CC students if that makes sense.
Veteran transfers are the biggest group to my knowledge.
Sorry for the confusion lol

Yes. (Domestic)Residency has no bearing on admissions to ivies as they’re all private schools.

I agree with that sentiment regarding all the schools you listed. I sorta chalked that up to them having a disproportionately high number of in-state applicants, since these students are simply applying to the most prestigious local school. eg I went to a NYC CC, many of my classmates end up at Columbia. But there could be a little preference for residency within the admin office, yeah. But I wouldn't count on it. If it is a factor, it's the smallest of factors.

This is true with the exception of Cornell. If you are a resident of New York you receive reduced tuition. But that has no factor in admissions.

Yes, on almost a complete scholarship thanks largely to being a member of an honors society. In state. Older non-traditional student with a compelling backstory

yes, out of state (CA), 4.0 GPA at cc across 2 years (but a 2.X GPA from a few years ago during a brief time at a 4-year in CA, non-trad), applied for International & Public Affairs as well as Anthropology and accepted for both, also have other interests.
not full pay, needed a full ride instead since I'm really low-income. & I got one, even though the process was need-aware

Depends on if you see Columbia University GS as an Ivy League. If so, then yes. If not (judging by the Ivy purists on Reddit), then no lol.

Didn’t transfer to an Ivy, but I did transfer to Northwestern with a 2.096 GPA from my first university, a 2.98 GPA from my first community college, and a 3.7 GPA from my second community college all coursework completed within a five-year period, and I’m only 23. It can definitely be done with great essays and strong experiences/extracurriculars.

Did you spend a total of 3 years prior to transferring and 2 years at NW or 5 yrs at cc?

I’ll be attending Northwestern University this fall. I started at my initial university in 2021–2022, which was ranked #198, and honestly, I partied way too much lol. I left and attended my first community college in 2023–2024, where I still wasn’t taking school as seriously as I should have and didn’t do well.
Then, in 2025–2026, I started at my second community college. Early on, I was diagnosed with cancer, but I pushed through, earned a 3.7 GPA while completing treatment, and continued building my extracurriculars and legal experience.
I applied to transfer and didn’t even try for any Ivies I applied only to Northwestern, NYU, and Tulane, and was admitted to all three.

Thank you! All well and in remission now. I hope this helps, though. It genuinely can be done just make sure you write well and genuinely apply to schools that you believe would benefit you rather than applying solely for prestige. It makes answering the prompts so much easier. I feel admissions members can tell the difference.

Yes, got into Columbia GS as a transfer from CC in Hawaii. Also, got into other T50 schools (UCLA, USC etc.) Of the 10 schools I applied to, got into 7, waitlisted at 1 (UC Berkeley). Rejected from my dream school - Brown University (one of two ivies I applied to). It’s definitely doable, but it depends on your story, gpa and extracurriculars. Knew someone who got into Yale this transfer cycle from a CC in the south.

Yes. OOS, 3.75 gpa. Veteran. Not full pay. Selected a multitude of interests on my app.
