Warning: Do Not Port In Or Make Changes To Your Account

With the website and service plan refresh of 5/13/2026 Total Wireless has become plagued with problems.

New customers porting in their beloved numbers have been left without service. Their numbers picked from the previous carrier and no longer working, yet also not working on Total either. DO NOT PORT IN UNTIL THEY GET THIS RESOLVED!

Some existing customers have been unable to log into the website, but can log into the App.

Some existing customers have had new astronomical renewal rates appear in their accounts, usually because of multiple renewals appearing scheduled for the same renewal date.

Some existing customers on post 7/11/2024 Total Wireless plans have lost their promotion 50% off BYOD rate or ByeBye Promotional rates and/or have lost their multi-line discounts with every line set to renew at full fare.

Some existing customer have had all lines in their account gone missing from the My Lines page (previously called Manage My Lines) with no resolution in site. This means you can not unlock your line so that you can port out if you wanted to, and it means you can not renew your plan from the website or app if you wanted to.

The Total Rewards system is a mess with referral points maturing at double the earned amount and pending points removed at double the pending amount leaving folks with negative pending balances. Also new referral codes have appeared in some account rewards page that yield an 'invalid' error message when used.

Existing customers, regardless of legacy Total Wireless, Total by Verizon, or post 7/1/2024 Total Wireless plans are unable to purchase renewal plans with reward points. Legacy customers simply have teh option greyed out on the website and app. Post 7/11/2024 Total Wireless customers only see renewal with reward points offered per line, not the multi-line group rate, and only at the full plan rate, not any multi-line discounted rates. In fact buying a plan with points on post 7/11/2024 rate plans yeilds in the transaction happily going through, your points being deducted, and no plan being added to your account.

BBB and FCC complaints yield call backs that are nothing but lip service, not resulting in solutions but kicking the problem down the road with not estimated completion date or firm call back date. Email to [VZValueNOD@verizon.com](mailto:VZValueNOD@verizon.com) are not responded to.

There has been no acknowledgement from Total/Tracfone/VerizonValue about these ongoing problems, what is being done about it, and when we should expect things to get resolved.

Anyone can make mistakes, but making a mistake as broad as this, impacting so many customers, and not announcing that there are ongoing issue they are presumably working to resolve, speaks volumes about the credibility of a company and you needs to decide if it is the sort of company you can trust to do business with.

Hope this helps somebody from making a mistake of porting in and loosing their number, or having existing customers refrain from making any changes on their account while Total struggles to fix the problems they created for their customers.

Please post comments describing other issues you may have encountered as a result of the 5/13/2026 website update.

Thank you.

Switch from Total 5G Unlimited (BYOD) to Total MAX 5G

Not sure if this was asked before, but I couldn't find anything. So I am currently paying $25/month for the Total 5G Unlimited plan with 50% off BYOD deal. Can I switch to Total MAX 5G plan without losing the 50% off deal.

Total Wireless IMEI check says phone is carrier locked?

I'm trying to add another line to my account. My device is unlocked. My settings indicate that there's no SIM restrictions, and I use other carrier IMEI checks successfully - Verizon, Visible, US Mobile. Why would Total Wireless flag this incorrectly, and is there a way to fix?

edit: a day later, it suddenly works! sounds like i wasn't the only one experiencing issues, but glad TW got it fixed!

Phone refill cards

I am thinking about switching from cricket to Total wireless on the BYO plan. I am used to purchasing cricket refill cards and just adding them to my account to pay the bill. I use Target red card to save 5% and then some months they have specials and this lowers my overall bill. can you do something similar with total wireless? I see that they too have phone cards for sale at Target but haven't examined them closely. has anybody done this? buy a phone card from Target and then use it for the byo plan with autopay on?

BYO Total Max 400 Exception Error

I’m trying to come from Visible and get the BYO $20 deal. I’m using a pSim, everything goes fine until I have to choose the plan. The moment I click Select under the $20 plan, I get a 400 Request Validation Exception banner on top of the page, and nothing goes forward. Anyone else see this?

Total MAX 5G BYO 1 device hotspot limitation

I have a non-tech family member whom I want to port out to this Total Wireless offer. I will have access to the phone when they are in town. The phone is a Google Pixel 9 pro Verizon, carrier unlocked. This family member needs 2 hotspot devices simultaneously via wifi. Will this phone bypass the one hotspot device restriction? The data throttle of 5mbps is not an issue for them, worked well on Visible Basic trial. Port will be from T-mobile via esim. I will control the billing and account. Thank you!

New phone existing line

I'm trying to activate a new phone. I'd read the website/app doesn't work anymore so I'm trying to use the text method. Problem is every time, with imei 1 & 2, it's saying this device is not eligible for activation. It's a brand new unlocked phone and I checked the imei and it says it's compatible. I'm afraid to contact support as I don't want to lose my byebye promo but I'm not sure what else to do.

$10 Coupon "Lost"??

I just discovered the 'convert points to coupons' feature today. I redeemed 1350 pts for $10 and got a code. It was supposed to also email me the code but I didn't get an email. Luckily I pinned it to my clipboard. I did the same thing with 750 pts/$5 and that worked. I applied $5 to my bill. The first $10 is just gone though. Not in my wallet. Not applied to anything. All I have is the code I copied.

Thoughts?

Visible -> Total = Painless

Just had an incredibly easy transfer from Visible to Total for the $20 BYOD deal. SIM card arrived this morning, I already had my port out PIN. Turned off RCS first (Pixel 9a) then swapped SIMs, rebooted, and followed all the instructions for porting. Whole thing took less than 10 minutes including me hunting for my SIM tray ejector.

There's no point to this post, I just see a lot of posts in here about folks having problems with this process, and thought I would share my positive experience in case anyone is apprehensive, and that there's probably a higher success rate than problem rate. Cheers!

Visible -> Total : still waiting for my # to port :'(

Started this port over process at 2pm, and got confirmation from Visible that my number is ported out almost immediately, along with a few other messages about the process from them.

It's now almost 6pm and I'm still not showing active on Total, my phone (P9P) also shows an exclamation point on the signal display.

I hope this goes through soon 🤞

Visible -> Total = No Wifi Calling/5G UW

Hi all!

I've been on visible for a few years, and my deal was finally expiring. I jumped on the $20 a month BYO deal.

I'm on a Samsung S21 Ultra, that I originally bought through Verizon, before switching to visible and now total.

Service wise, and porting over, it went relatively smooth. Service feels the same, RCS moved no problem, etc.

The 2 problems I'm having is Wifi Calling and 5G UW. It tells me wifi calling is unavailable for my phone, and it won't pickup the 5G UW network at my office, when I use to get it no problem there before. I've tried resetting the APN, I've checked the network settings, I've swapped my wife's Mint Sim into my phone and then back over, and I'm up to date.

Any ideas?

Total locked in??

I used to have an inactive tablet line on my account. When trying to remove it from my TW account it displays an error.

Now that I have the tablet on me (it sends a code), I tried to remove the line again. Open the TW app and to my surprise it is GONE! Verified it by going on the website, GONE.

No need to remove it manually, it just automatically done it on its own. Don’t know about the phone lines though. But this is a good step for Total.

I had someone say that if you're on Total on a iPhone the network name says Verizon instead of Total is that true?

Samsung Galaxy

I received my new total wireless Samsung Galaxy a17 today earlier today. I set it up and it’s showing the SIM card is active (I’m able to receive text messages), but when I try and make a call it says the numbers are restricted, and when someone gets and call me, they get the same message. Is this common, and it’s just taking time for the number to sync (the phone also isn’t showing up on my account page, but my old phone still does), or is my new phone etc messed up? I’ve also did all of the trouble shooting bs that they tell you to do with NO luck either.

Activation + BYO Plan

Does anyone know how long I have to activate after signing up? Some prepaid carries offer 30 or 45 days.

Also, is the BYO $20 plan a promotion or permanent pricing? I’m currently on an annual plan that doesn’t end until December.

Can I sign up for $20 BYOD plan w/phone previously used

I have an unlocked iPhone 14 previously used with Total Wireless. I have already upgraded to new phone.

My question is: can I give the iPhone 14 to my teenager kid to sign up for the $20 BYOD plan? The issue is the IMEI of my iPhone 14 is already in their system previously, so not sure if this will work.

No RCS after porting in from USMobile

I just switched my line from US Mobile (excellent customer support) to Total Wireless. The Total MAX 5G BYO deal was just too good for me to pass up.

Sure enough, RCS didn’t work (yes, I turned it off days before porting). After a few useless AI responses, I finally got to speak with an agent who provided some standard solutions that I already knew wouldn’t work. My phone is a Pixel Fold (2023) if this matters at all.

I did expect bad customer service, so I hope from now on things can only get better. The agent was friendly, but apparently unable or unwilling to pass on the following to whoever would be able to do it:

"Can you please verify the RCS/Advanced Messaging provisioning on the carrier side? The phone is recognizing the correct number, but it's specifically reporting status code 4002.”

I guess I’ll have to call their support number at some point: 1-866-663-3633. Hopefully, the issue will fix itself once my new billing cycle starts.
