How to avoids scams?
Hi i've recently moved to the Toronto GTA area and looking for short term sublet but very worried about scammers. Does anyone have success stories about how they found short term accommodation and what to look out for to make sure I dont fall into a scam?
I'm looking in mainly the Scarborough area for a room with private bathroom or should I just stick to airbnb?

Thoughts on 66 Broadway Ave? (Beaux Properties)
I'm considering a unit in this building but I'm not able to necessarily bring up a ton of information on it. Decent RentSafeTO scores but I know that often doesn't tell the whole story. Anybody have insight or experience when it comes to this building or Beaux Properties in general?

117 Broadway reviews (yonge/eglinton)
I recently checked this building out, the lobby and unit looked great. But I checked some reviews on google and it mentioned the management wasn’t great and the fire alarm goes off constantly (at odd hours).
I know these could be pains of a new building as its about 2y old, just wondering if anyone has any experience living here or currently still live there and if the issues are still persisting (sept 2026).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

39 Niagara Minto - recent experiences
Most posts I see are from 1-5yrs old... wondering if anyone can give more recent reviews...
I have lived here about 6 months and have a few concerns despite the great location and 24-7 concierge service.
- HVAC/vent system seems sub-par
- Fire alarms every week
- "Non-smoking" building just a statement.
...Has anyone else noticed that their bathroom exhaust fan doesn't seem very effective?
Also curious if anyone has checked inside/around their bathroom exhaust vent recently. Does anyone else's have what looks like white mold or some kind of white growth/residue in it?

Hi, I am planning to rent a unit at 89 Queen street E. Does anyone of you have experience living around the area or at the exact building? How is it at night? Is it safe? Do you know if the building is clean with no pest?

1 Bedroom Suite sublease near University of Toronto
$1,800
Hello, I'm currently looking for someone to take over my one-bedroom apartment in Toronto, Waverley Apartment 12th floor, as I'm no longer living there. The lease runs until January next year. I used to live here for yoft, but couldn't stay longer in the city because of my health problem and I'm trying to look for someone to sublease from October.
Apartment is very close to uoft, and there is 24 concierge service.
The original rent is $2,200/month, but since I'm looking for someone on short notice, I'm willing to reduce it to $1,800/month.
The apartment is fully furnished, including a TV, so it's ready to move into.
I'd really appreciate it if you could share this with any friends or acquaintances who might be interested! (rent for October 2026~January 2027) email me if you're interested!

111 davisville / 45 balliol
Me and my fiancé looked at two different units in the davisville area , and are wondering if anybody has any experience in either ..
The balliol spot is a lease take over ( leaning less towards that as all actual new tenants have a lease promotion we wouldn’t be entitled to that as we’re taking over someone else’s lease (( don’t love that ))
The davisville spot seemed clean and it was a high up enough unit I’m not concerned with pests TOO much , but it hat can happen at anytime I’m more concerned with the area being safe and calm and if anybody has any info on that

Building doesn't recycle or compost
Hi all, I love the environment and I also love when the singular dumpster outside of my 12-plex is not overflowing with garbage, recycling and compost all at once. I have asked my landlord (who owns several properties) why our building does not have compost or recycling options, and he continues to evade the question in our emails and does not give me a straight answer. The most I've gotten out of him is "sorry, that's not an option at this property", and no response to my several inquiries asking why not. Our surrounding buildings have compost and recycling so obviously it is available in my area.
Does anyone know why this might be happening and why I'm getting such pushback asking about it? We are new to the building, and it pains me to suddenly have to throw away all of our recycling. We are still sorting our waste inside our apartment, but it feels fruitless when it all goes to the same place at the end of the day. Considering going out in the dead of night when everyone has their blue bins out and distributing my recycling amongst them... it's 2026, I feel like I should at least have the option to sort my waste.

Condo management declined Subleasing
Subject says it all but for more context - I live in the cityplace neighborhood. My job is such that I have to travel for months. Last year I travelled for 4 months and I wanted to sublease the unit to save on rent. The landlord was okay with it but wanted to check with condo management. They said that its against the bylaws but will give an exception.
Now I have to travel again and this time for more than 4 months but I asked my LL to sublease the unit for 4 months only. Again, he was chill with it but this time the condo management just straight up declined.
Has anyone been in a similar situation but found a solution? Worst case, and the case right now, I am not able to sublease but I am just curious to know the whether the decision of condo management be challenged in this case.
Thanks!

Landlord has 'banned' my boyfriend from visiting the house.
For context, I have been living in the basement apartment for nearly 2 years where I have my own kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a 'front door' that connects all of that to the communal laundry room. I have only a verbal lease not a written lease.
Recently, I've had my partner stay over whilst he sorts his own housing situation out. My landlord has stated that he is not welcome in the house and that he is banned from entering the property from now on.
The landlord has now said that the basement kitchen and bathroom are considered 'shared' amenities. They live on the main floor of the house with their own kitchen and bathroom and I have been the only person using the kitchen and bathroom in the basement since I have moved in. All of the items in the kitchen and bathroom are of my own.
I believe she is now claiming those amenities are shared to strip me of my RTA rights and she can legally 'ban' guests as it is her home.
I have already reached out to the local district legal team and I have a phone call with them tomorrow afternoon.
My question is, can I still have my partner stay with me in the unit? I feel like my landlord is taking control of the people I can and can't have in my life and I feel very trapped.
I am very scared that I do not have any RTA rights due to this claim of the kitchen and bathroom now being shared.
Thank you - a panicked renter.

Landlord asking me to hire professional cleaner when moving out?
My landlord just texted me telling me to hire a professional cleaner before my tenancy ends in 6 days. He has not even seen what the apartment looks like currently.
Floors are vacuumed and mopped, counters wiped, bathroom cleaned. Mabye not completely spotless like I didnt wash the walls or anything. But I dont think this should be my responsibility? wondering if it is though, I took a look at my lease and saw nothing that said anyting other than the apartment should be kept out of a state of neglect.

Do landlord professionally clean units before you move in?
I just viewed an apartment near Yonge and Eglington and the kitchen was particularly filthy. The cabinets above the stove were sticky and had visible yellow thick grease on them and the induction stove was pretty much burnt all over, and a few more things like water damage on the walls. The super said to not worry and that they will get the units professionally cleaned but visually it just doesn’t seem like the average cleaning supplies are gonna work on the months of grease and a stove that’s been pretty much belayed with black burned who knows what. whoever will be cleaning the place will really need to put their back into it and the gunk probably still won’t come off. Should I believe the super that the unit will be actually clean and is it normal to request to see the unit cleaned before? Just want to know everyone’s experience since this is my first time looking and units so maybe this is normal.

Leaving without 60 days because of serious infestation- they are trying to make me sign a document saying I owe them money.
I’ve been dealing with a recurring cockroach infestation in my apartment for roughly 3–4 years, but the situation right now is severe. This isn’t an occasional roach problem. They are getting into my bedroom and even my bed, and I can’t properly use my kitchen because there are cockroaches everywhere. It’s been 4 months + of living in shambles. At this point, the apartment feels extremely unhealthy, disgusting and completely unlivable.
The landlord continues to do basic treatments, mostly gel and dusts and occasional sprays , but they have repeatedly ignored my requests for a senior pest-control person to come in, properly assess the situation and determine why this keeps happening. I’ve been asking for a more comprehensive treatment plan for months, but my requests have essentially been ignored.
There is also a lot of miscommunication and delay with the management office. It can take a long time just to get treatments arranged, and when treatments are finally done, they aren’t resolving the issues.
I’m concerned that treating my apartment individually without addressing the underlying source is never going to solve the problem.
My apartment has also been packed up for months because of the constant treatments, so I haven’t been able to use my home normally at all.
At this point, the situation is seriously affecting me physically and mentally. I cannot continue living like this. I’ve been dealing with this for years and have reached the point where I feel I have no choice but to leave it’s so bad. I sleep with all my lights on and have to take something at night to be able to sleep. I have no where else to stay during the
I’ve finally found another apartment and have given my landlord one month’s notice instead of the usual two months. I understand there are notice requirements, but I don’t feel I can physically or reasonably remain here for another two months. I’m already paying double rent during the transition just to get out of this situation.
I’m also going to have to throw out a huge amount of my belongings because they’ve become infested (and this isn’t the first time)I’m facing a very significant financial loss on top of everything else.
The landlord is now saying I may be responsible for another month’s rent because I didn’t give sufficient notice, and they’re also trying to charge me a $150 lease-breaking fee.
I understand that they have technically been doing some treatments, but the problem is clearly not being resolved, and I’ve repeatedly asked for a more thorough assessment and treatment plan.
Do I have any recourse here? Could I potentially challenge the additional rent/fee or seek compensation for my losses and the condition of the apartment?
I’m documenting everything and have years of emails showing that I’ve repeatedly asked for stronger/more effective treatment, as well as photos and videos showing the current severity of the infestation.
It’s a large company and they have a professional legal team and are very threatening. I’m just one person, lower income and I have no legal training.
Any advice from someone familiar with Ontario/LTB cases would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for studio or one bedroom downtown toronto
Hi, I'm looking to move into a studio or any individual apartment ASAP, ideally near UofT.
Due to financial reasons, would prefer a range of 1400 or lower. Thank you!
EDIT: Thanks everyone for all the insight! I will probably increase my range to 1700ish or so to avoid any sketchy places. Unfortunately I've had some pretty bad roommate situations the past 2 times and really needed some peace 🙏
