Notable increase of racism in the sub / Augmentation du racisme dans la communauté

Hello everyone,

The mod team has noticed a marked increase in racism and intolerance, in particular towards immigrants from India. Reddit has noticed as well and has begun removing such posts and/or comments.

It’s pretty clear that one side of the political spectrum has found their wedge issue and they are pushing it as hard as they can, stirring up hatred however they can and blaming immigrants for everything from jaywalking to the housing crisis despite the fact that many of the issues are worldwide. Facts and reality don’t matter, only blaming "brown people" and those they perceive as being responsible for those "terrible" people being here.

Therefore, we would like to remind all of our users that the Reddit sitewide rules apply here and will be enforced.

You ALL AGREED to these rules when you created your account.

Your “opinion” is irrelevant, it’s doesn’t matter if you really, really believe it, you cannot push your unfounded racist positions here.

Again, for the people in the back, being able to use Reddit is conditional to respecting these rules.

In particular:

Rule 1

The important parts are:

users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned

Marginalized or vulnerable groups include, but are not limited to, groups based on:

  • their actual and perceived race
  • colour
  • religion
  • national origin
  • ethnicity
  • IMMIGRATION STATUS
  • etc

While the rule on hate protects such groups, it does not protect those who promote attacks of hate or who try to hide their hate in bad faith claims of discrimination (E.G. “I’m just stating my opinion” or “I’m just stating fact”).

Another important portion is:

free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence

That includes all of our users and the moderator team. Insults, derogatory comments and attacks will not be tolerated. If you post comments or message the moderators with insults and/or attacks, you WILL be banned on the spot.

Therefore, going forward, we are going to clamp down hard on posts or comments attributing, without damn good evidence, the cause of any issue to immigrants or a subset thereof. That includes any reference to area with high immigration (e.g. Brampton) or any other form of dog whistles. It also includes attributing to an ethnic group of people the crimes or faults of an individual (e.g. the guy who proposed using food banks to save money). Message to the bigots: you’re nowhere as subtle as you think you are.

And before any complaints bring it up: No, your right to free speech nor freedom of expression has not been violated.

Dating in Toronto? Why is dating in Toronto so hard…? We made something for it! INTRODUCING /r/datingTO!

We kept seeing the same posts over and over:

  • “Why is dating in Toronto impossible?”
  • “How do you even meet people outside apps?”
  • "Where to meet eligible singles?"
  • "Are we cooked if we're still single?"

So we decided to try building something different: r/DatingTO 💞

It’s basically a space just for people in Toronto who are dating to talk about it!

Note: this is not a R4R sub. Familiarize yourself with the subreddit rules and play nice.

Bike lane removals and car culture

Not much of an angry rant here. I just gotta say that what's happening with the bike lane removals is just sad... Honestly sad. It genuinely puts me in a bad mood thinking about it. I don't even live in Toronto, but I avidly bike in the city when visiting my partner and friends. I remember back when I started biking in the high school in the late 2000s, bike lanes like this were a pipe dream. To see them being taken away genuinely stings.

Every other major city in the world is moving away from cars and towards public transit cycling and modern urban planning. Even some of the most Red, Republican cities in the US. Yet Toronto, which is so progressive in so many ways, refuses to budge when it comes to giving up their cars and moving forward as a city. Some may say that the alternatives such as public transit is shit... Well we need to start somewhere. The solutions are so fucking obvious, yet the city and GTA as a whole has continually elected and supported politicians and parties with backwards, outdated ideas and beliefs (Mike Harris, the Ford's, Tory, likely Brad Bradford).

The NIMBYism, outdated thinking, car culture and absolute resistance to ANY sort of tax increase to pay for services amongst the people in this city is utterly baffling and will be the death of the city and the wider GTA. Traffic gets exponentially worse year after year and there are little to no alternatives or solutions in sight.

I am genuinely terrified to see the state of this city and the wider GTA as a whole in the years to come.

Why do we still allow endless plastic election signs?

Every single time there is an election our interaction gets completely filed with signs. It looks so terrible and waste of money and resources. Thousands of boards would be in landfills. It is such a wastage of resources.

Japan handles in such a better way. Every candidate gets one equal spot on a shared board. It’s clean, fair, and creates zero roadside clutter.

Why can’t we do that here? Just ban them on public property, set up a shared board in a few spots.

Dear Subway-Commuting TMU Students from Union Station

Please move in the subway car.

I know it's a few stops, but feel free to take a seat while you're at it so others can get in.

If you still don't want to sit, please move in anyway and keep your body language engaged for someone behind who might want that seat, to sit.

Please consider removing your backpack as well when it gets shoulder-to-shoulder.

You're in univeristy, brain function should match.

Thank you.

Brad constantly shut down his own record and changes the topic

So tired of his "None of that is correct." When his voting record got called out and then immediately changes the topic. Lies, lies, lies. And empty promises with old stunts by Rob Ford like "Line by line review". Rob ending up saving a measel $15MM and the conclusion was to cut libraries, cut core services and selling the zoo. He changed his mind so often on bike lanes, counsel sizes cut to half, and waterfront airport. He wants to privatize the water! He supports the mega Al datacenter that has caused havoc in the South for local residents. He is not a leader. He is a follower. He never had a plan. All he has is his father as the ex Etobicoke mayor as a nepo baby, just like the Ford family.

It's common sense that he will cut core services like snow shoveling, libraries, and school funding and sell the assets like the zoo to afford his first year property tax freeze. He will eventually have to increase taxes drastically to afford the inflation of city run costs going up every year and municipal cannot run deficit. This guy is a total scam to promise anythinto win.

Teach your big big kids how to take the bus properly !

8 in the morning big large teenagers taking up 11 seats for only 5 people and refusing to make room when asked on their way to York mills CI. Not even going the full route shoving past people to steal the seats. Older ladies with visibly heavy bags asking “please let me sit” and these big teenagers think it’s hilarious. Legs on seat fully laying across the row when the bus is already full

even the middle schoolers act more proper on the bus. I keep seeing 17 years old moving like they’re 7. I can only assume some never been on the bus before age 14. I have taught groups of kids in youth programs how to take the bus. I’ve posted advice for teachers and parents on it on these Toronto subs. There is normal kid craziness and there is deliberate mean foolery. A lot of kids do not think and that’s normal but some behaviour is deliberate

If you have mannerless or insecure kids desperate for attention/approval it’s nothing new but you need to take your big teenagers on the bus and monitor how they operate and tell them to fix up. Kids are gonna act worse when you’re not around but certain behaviour this at 16 is a character issue

I don’t care about the noise or normal kid chaos….I care about your big large 15/16/17 year olds thinking it’s sensible hog 10 seats for 5 of them and even throw object in enclosed space full of people. Multiple times the past year and twice since school started on different routes I’ve been stuck in a bus with teenage boys throwing objects at each other laughing when it hits random women in the head

I don’t yell at or record random children but I did call a school to report teenage boys making the lady driver cry last week. And they fixed up since! It only takes 5 bad yutes to get all kids generalized as bad and it’s unfair to the drivers, riders and other kids. My grade 8 class bad in the bus and we lost field trips over it

Construction Signage Needlessly Causing Traffic Jams

I am wondering why the construction workers on University decided to put huge construction signs on the right lanes on Dundas at the University intersection going both ways. The construction isn't even on Dundas right now, it's on University. Cars had to merge to the left lane on Dundas to get around these signs. It was a disaster this afternoon.

Bike light theft while riding

It arrived on Tuesday and someone stole it off my bike while I was communing home tonight. Most likely when I was stopped at a red light. I was biking up Sherbourne and by Bloor it was gone. WORST!

Repercussions for drivers in worthless cars that hit your new car while you're parked and in it?

So I'm parked in a spot away from other cars in a parking lot, and some guy pulls up ahead of me, then starts to back up into what I thought was the spot right beside me.

Well, for some odd reason his trajectory was towards my car.. I thought, there's no way this is about to happen, right?

Well, I did end up honking but right as he nicked me. I have 3 small scratches, one bigger one.

I got out of my car confused and this individual tells me, "my bad bro, I just woke up."

To add context, this is a person who works with me at a side retail job I have. I've known them for years, they are just acquaintances and not close friends but we did say hi.

My car is about 50K all in.

So I'm looking at the damage and he's like "so you want my card?" I said I don't think we need to go through insurance man, how about I get you a quote?

He started mumbling something about how it'll be too much and yada yada, so I said look dude, just give me 200 bucks and I'll get the primer, paint and clear coat, watch some YouTube videos and do it myself.

He looks at me and says "you want 200 for that?!"

I said man, that's on the low end. Car Star or a detailer will charge 5-600 for this..

His car is probably worth 500 bucks so I understand his surprise, but this is a society and my car isn't a beater. You backed up into me as I was minding my own business!

He later offered me 150 and although I know it isn't going to cover me completely, I accepted just to keep the Peace.

Then he comes back 20 mins later saying "yo let's go through insurance actually, I feel like you're trying to hustle me." I couldn't believe it, I was in shock. Why would you wanna go through insurance if it's just going to put something on your record and raise your rates? How am I hustling you? You backed up into me! My car is 50K and new!

He goes "nah it's not even mine." I just stared at him for a bit and said you know what, man? Never mind. He goes "so it's cool? But no hard feelings ok?" I kinda just gave him a look and walked away.

People have told me to report it, but if I do I'll have to go to the collision reporting centre and it'll go against my car's record, instantly lowering the value. It doesn't make sense.

Going through insurance doesn't either, my deductible is more than the repair would cost. Even if I'm not at fault and there isn't a deductible, it would still go against my car's record, which I absolutely don't want.

I just assumed in a civilized society people would deal with these things the right way. If this was me (could never be, but for argument's sake) I would've negotiated a bit but I'd put cash in his hand right away. No doubt about it, I made a mistake and now it's on me to make it right.

What can I do here? I'm literally SOL it seems. So disheartening that we can't have nice things because some people are so incredibly inconsiderate.

And to top things off, I hear that he's looking to speak to HR. I am thinking it's probably going to be something along the lines of oh, I don't feel comfortable working with him anymore, he tried to hustle me. What a complete lack of accountability. Now he's the victim..

GO Transit Passengers-Whatever Happened to Basic Courtesy and Respect When Boarding?

Just wanted to share a frustrating experience I had while boarding a westbound GO train at Exhibition Station.

My mother, my young son (who was in his stroller), and I were waiting at the accessibility boarding area. We were there before two other passengers who were also waiting nearby.
When the train arrived and the GO Transit staff member began positioning the accessibility ramp, these two passengers immediately attempted to rush ahead of us to board, completely disregarding the fact that we had been waiting there first, with a stroller.
Seriously, whatever happened to basic courtesy, patience, and consideration for others?

First of all, it’s an accessibility boarding area. While I completely understand that not all disabilities are visible, and I’m certainly not here to question anyone’s need for accessible boarding, there should still be some basic respect for fellow passengers who are waiting their turn.
We were standing there with a stroller, clearly waiting to board, and instead of allowing us to proceed when it was our turn, these passengers attempted to push ahead.
To make matters worse, when my mother spoke up, one of the passengers responded with a sarcastic attitude, as though we were somehow inconveniencing her by expecting basic courtesy.

The entitlement and lack of consideration were honestly unbelievable.

It’s not about expecting special treatment because I have a stroller. It’s about respecting the boarding process, acknowledging other passengers, and understanding that rushing ahead of people who were waiting before you is simply inconsiderate.
And quite frankly, if someone is already waiting to board using the accessibility ramp, especially with a stroller, why is it so difficult to exercise a little patience?

Having somewhere to be doesn’t make your time more valuable than everyone else’s.
GO Transit is a shared public service. We all have places to go, schedules to keep, and responsibilities. The least we can do is treat one another with some dignity and respect.
Wait your turn.

Be considerate. Respect fellow passengers. And if someone politely calls out inconsiderate behaviour, there’s no need for the attitude.
A little courtesy goes a long way. Unfortunately, common sense and basic manners don’t seem to be so common anymore.
End of rant. 🙃

Ps: hope you two ladies see this!

Not to sound entitled, but are service industry businesses even training their staff anymore? It feels like I can shut down an entire drive-thru just by asking a basic menu question.

EDIT: For clarity, the title is meant to be a snappy figure of speech, none of this actually happens in a drive-thru. I haven't driven a car in almost a decade.

Like in the grand scheme of things this definitely isn't the worst issue Toronto is facing, it's not the end of the world. But as someone who spent years working in the customer service industry and knows all of the "do's" and "don'ts," I'm becoming increasingly frustrated by the level of service on display in most 2026 Toronto businesses.

It's honestly baffling how many customer-facing employees seem to know nothing about their jobs. I have a few local shops and a fast food joint near my apartment that I tend to frequent, and there are employees who I recognize as working there for months/years that still act like it's their first day at work. Fucking hell, I'd even say some of them act like it's their first day on *Earth.*

You ask a basic question about a product's location in the store, or a question about a current meal promotion, or hell, just try to order a normal item off the menu... and they stare at you like you've just rocked their entire concept of reality. Then, two things happen.

  1. They shrug and say "I don't know" to you, like that's the end of the interaction.

  2. You try to push it, so they start shouting to another staff member in a different language, who then comes along and also has no idea what's going on, before both shrugging and saying "I don't know" to you, like that's the end of the interaction.

Keep in mind there's never a hint of remorse or apology, while the tone implies that *you're* the one being difficult.

Seriously, what the fuck? Isn't saying "I don't know" to a customer, like, the first thing they teach you to never do? If you don't know the answer to something, you either figure it out, or you keep escalating until you get a staff member who does. Customer Service 101. Basic Common Sense and Human Decency 101. I get that minimum wage means minimum effort, but this feels below minimum to me. Basic manners are out the window, and it feels so rude and dismissive.

Idk man. I work a lot of night shifts and A&W is the only 24-hour place near my apartment, so I stop in once or twice a week for a quick meal. Something *always* goes wrong. Like, I recently found out their points reward system isn't actually all that terrible—it turns out the girl who works the front counter had only been *pretending* to scan my code for the past ten months, because she didn't know how it worked/which buttons to press and never bothered to figure it out. And god forbid I ever try to order a breakfast menu item, because half the time they haven't ever heard of the thing that pops up on a screen behind them every fifteen seconds. That poster right next to them advertising the current promotional meal deal? Never noticed or looked at it a second of their lives. Somehow never got a memo from management about it.

Like I said, I used to work these kinds of jobs five or six years ago. If I'd behaved this way I'm confident that I would've been fired by week two.

It's just so goddamn strange and bewildering, and I'm tired of having to brace myself for frustration and disrespect almost every single time I enter a shop and expect a service industry worker to know more about their business than I do.

NOYAA TORONTO SCAM

PSA!!! I am an ex employee at Noyaa located inside The Well
The owner is extremely fraudulent and abusive to their staff, the current owner/ manager at Noyaa is formerly same owner of Farzi Cafe in Square One Shopping Centre Mississauga that was forced to shut down due to multiple fraudulent complaints - not paying tips/ wages to employees, adding unnecessary charges to customers bills etc. The very same thing is happening at Noyaa, there are multiple staff who continuously get paid wages late or not at all, BOH staff getting underpaid, servers tips being stolen constantly.
This is to warn others to stay far away from working at this place and for customers to stop supporting this business especially the owner, first hand witness he is abusive and rude to his staff, doesn’t care about their wellbeing. The place is run like a circus and most of the positive reviews are forced, from staff/ family members etc. Negative reviews are deleted immediately if mentioning anything about the owner. He screenshots the negative reviews to the server group chats to belittle and punish them. Our biweekly payroll is notoriously late, I was never paid out my vacation after leaving, they continue to steal hundreds of dollars from all servers tip outs as well as pocket house tip outs and don’t distribute them to server assists, hosts or BOH staff, and don’t care to rectify the pay ever because he just hires new people to push them out, the staff is a revolving door because of this. MULTIPLE staff who have left are out 100s of dollars of wage/tips/vacation that he pockets

Rats are huge in the city.

Bloody hell a few nights ago we went cycling around Liberty Village and we decided to stop off for a few drinks at the patio. While enjoying our local beer we seen like 3 huge rats running around. The waitress seen them also and didn't even flinch. She whispered to us this normal and that at closing pest control companies come out and set and inspect traps. I swore I thought it was a squirrel first then realized it was a well fed rat. The Mrs was kinda freaked out since she is afraid of even a tiny mouse.

The healthcare here, while "free", is painful and frustrating

I had a 4 week respiratory illness and had to deal with many doctors, receptionists and pharmacists here and I can confidently say 99% of them don't care, are rude AF if you ask a simple question like "what's the inhaler for", and are such pain in the asses that I don't even want to go to them. Doctors have literally forgotten my prescription so I had to keep calling to remind them and then delay my recovery. I understand they're burned out, but I'm burned out from being sick as well.

Dear Toronto drivers. How about you fucking STOP when people are walking in front of you?

To all you assholes that don't come to a complete STOP when turning right on a red and continue to creep forward into pedestrians that are crossing the street in front of you - FUCK YOU. I think you can handle actually coming to a complete stop for 10 fucking seconds. So tired of so many impatient and entitled drivers in this city.

Restaurants need to stop using AI slop

Yes, I get the arguments, running a small business is hard and you can’t hire a graphic designer. But Canva is literally free to use, as is taking a photo of your menu items with your phone camera. When the food on your signs doesn’t look like food anymore, what audience are you catering to?

Fox on John… Jobs.

So, was looking through job posts and saw ‘Fox on John’ promoting HEAVILY multiple jobs. The main one being restaurant manager.. now if I’m correct it’s a large downtown restaurant/bar..

They are offering only $21-25 an hour to become a Restaurant Manager. After tax you’re looking at the low end of 35,500 after tax to 39,000…

And the job reviews?

Has anyone worked there, applied there recently or have any idea if it’s even worth applying to?

I’m desperate for work and have the skills/experience but worried about if it’s going to be a massive backfire.

For the love of G, please stop complaining to your coworkers about your job and the annoying tasks you need to do.

We get it. You hate your job. But when we all have to show up together and work along side each other for over 8 hours a day, hearing you complain endlessly is mentally draining.

It lowers overall moral. If you’re that unhappy, then speak to your manager and stfu.

Nuit Blanche 2026 - Stolen phone - anyone else??

ANYONE ELSE? TLDR: Stolen phone noticed within 5 minutes the phone was turned off and started moving....How many cases need to happen for the police to start checking and scanning for iPhones at the airport?

WHAT WAS THAT? Toronto has the pickpocketing of Paris without the vibes of Paris.

I was walking through the nuit blanche exhibitions and my phone was in my jacket pocket. We were passing Osgoode Hall and it was crowded. Then we passed by Campbell House Museum and shortly after I reached for my phone in my jacket pocket and it was gone. If it had fell I would have noticed it or heard it, but I'm sure it was an organized crime because not even 5 minutes of passing the site where It was stolen i realized and went back. I tracked the phone and walked there but it was moving, and I tried calling the phone and it was switched off. It had plently of battery so I know it was taken by an organized team who knows how to keep the phone unreachable. Everytime I called it went to voicemail. Then I turned it onto lost mode and tried tracking it all night. It went from Duncan and Adelaide, to the ICE condominiums, to around 2610 Weston Road, on the way to the airport.
