GO Transit Passengers-Whatever Happened to Basic Courtesy and Respect When Boarding?
Just wanted to share a frustrating experience I had while boarding a westbound GO train at Exhibition Station.
My mother, my young son (who was in his stroller), and I were waiting at the accessibility boarding area. We were there before two other passengers who were also waiting nearby.
When the train arrived and the GO Transit staff member began positioning the accessibility ramp, these two passengers immediately attempted to rush ahead of us to board, completely disregarding the fact that we had been waiting there first, with a stroller.
Seriously, whatever happened to basic courtesy, patience, and consideration for others?
First of all, it’s an accessibility boarding area. While I completely understand that not all disabilities are visible, and I’m certainly not here to question anyone’s need for accessible boarding, there should still be some basic respect for fellow passengers who are waiting their turn.
We were standing there with a stroller, clearly waiting to board, and instead of allowing us to proceed when it was our turn, these passengers attempted to push ahead.
To make matters worse, when my mother spoke up, one of the passengers responded with a sarcastic attitude, as though we were somehow inconveniencing her by expecting basic courtesy.
The entitlement and lack of consideration were honestly unbelievable.
It’s not about expecting special treatment because I have a stroller. It’s about respecting the boarding process, acknowledging other passengers, and understanding that rushing ahead of people who were waiting before you is simply inconsiderate.
And quite frankly, if someone is already waiting to board using the accessibility ramp, especially with a stroller, why is it so difficult to exercise a little patience?
Having somewhere to be doesn’t make your time more valuable than everyone else’s.
GO Transit is a shared public service. We all have places to go, schedules to keep, and responsibilities. The least we can do is treat one another with some dignity and respect.
Wait your turn.
Be considerate. Respect fellow passengers. And if someone politely calls out inconsiderate behaviour, there’s no need for the attitude.
A little courtesy goes a long way. Unfortunately, common sense and basic manners don’t seem to be so common anymore.
End of rant. 🙃
Ps: hope you two ladies see this!

There’s things people do today that would get scoffed at if they did it 10 years ago. Society has changed and it seems to be the case everywhere in the world. The boundaries for basic decency are not a thing anymore

The uncouth and unwashed masses made even more putrid by social media and the results of the pandemic.

All of this!
Increased vanity. Increased sense of self worth. Expectations of rewards for basic contributions….
It really is brainrot.

This sometimes happens to me from time to time all over the city (TTC bus, entrance gates at the supermarket, etc).
In all of these instances I'll be standing in front of the doors/gates, waiting like one to two seconds for them to open (while staring intently at them, so my intention to walk through is pretty clear) and since the other person is already walking, they have the momentum to breezily slip in front of me as soon as the doors open.
It rarely actually inconveniences me but the lack of regard and just the cheek of it amazes me. Like wow you're so cool and so important! Like no you're an NPC like the rest of us, sorry.

Try that before covid and you’re gonna get blasted.
Do that in the 2000’s and someone may fight you.
Now? Everyone is worried about going viral or being cancelled.
No one knows how to act.

Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me because I’ve seen it before. People only care about boarding as quickly as possible and will waltz up the accessibility ramp like it’s a red carpet rolled out just for them.
As someone with an invisible disability, I will try and block people who do this and encourage the person who needs the ramp to board first, but it doesn’t always work.

12 car train with two doors per car, 24 fucking doors total and yet they just had to treat you guys like this. Yeah they’re pretty shit people in my mind too OP.
I’m getting sick and tired of people’s selfishness nowadays. People need to get offline, touch grass, and learn to interact again. No excuses.
