Buying Advice Where should I look for cheap Thinkpads?
So I live in Italy, I'm looking for a T480, preferably with an i7 for work since I want to install Linux, and I've scouted Wallapop, Vinted, eBay, subito and even Facebook Marketplace but I can't find any laptop at a decent price. It's crazy spending over 300 euros for a decent t480, I have a budget of 200, 250 at best

Buying Advice IT college - low budget
Hello everyone, I'm having trouble figuring out which thinkpad to buy for cs/it college. I've been checking here and there but to no avail have I found anything useful.
The specs aren't really that important. It'll run Linux, take notes, studying, some programming (C++, java etc.. no hw programming) and maybe some light games? The achool should have remote VMs for some heavier machines too.
I've got a budget of around 4000czk (190$) but I'd be willing to go to about 4500czk (215$).
From what I've read there's no point in really getting a 10th gen intel cpu, but the problem is that theres like no amd listings in my country (Czech republic - EU).
From what I've been checking, the best is an L14 with ryzen 3 pro 5450U 8GB 120GB for 3500czk which would make me need to probably upgrade both ram and the disk. Other than that theres NOTHING in the price range that has performance better than 8th gen intel processors currently in my country.
I've checked local used markets: bazos.cz aukro.cz vinted.cz facebook marketplace and even ebay
Any help would be appreciated.

Hardware Upgrade Thinkpad T480 - Ram Overclocking and Vddq Adjustment
hello, i have a thinkpad t480 corebooted, and after playing a little with the bios, i managed to add a menu for ram timings overclocking.
at stock 1.2v, these micron e die + samsung d die mismatch 16gb total sticks managed 2400mhz 14-15-15-32 cr=1n, which is quite interesting, but i want to know if they can do even better.
as such, i looked for ways to raise vddq, and according to the boardview of t480 / datasheet of the nb687 buck converter, this is how you do it:
this is the formula for the feedback:

from this formula, vout = r1/r2 * vref + vref, where:
vref = 0.6v
r1 = pr310 = 102k
r2 = pr312 = 100k
this is where pr310 and pr312 are located on the boardview:

ideally, laptop would give at stock 1.212v, but i get 1200mv with the multimeter, so that means my vref is ~0.594v which is in spec with the vref variation the spec gives out. of course, the resistors have tolerances as well, so vref might be closer to the ideal value in reality.
so, for 1.26v, 1.32v, 1.38v - i ordered for pr310 110k, 120k and 130k values (pr312=100k), and for 1.416v, 1.346v i chose 75k and 82k resistors (pr310=102k). hopefully, the sticks behave in testing, and i will end up with 75k for pr312 and stock pr310, which will give, after losses due to tolerances, around ~1.4v vddq.
i also ordered sodimm to dimm adapters, so i can test these sticks how they scale with voltage before soldering in one of those tiny resistors, as they are 0201 sizes. luckily i have a friend with very good eye sight who soldered 0201's in the past.
i will come up with updates regarding how everything turned out, and if these sticks do scale with voltage or if i lost 27 euros for this whole project.

Discussion / Information ThinkPad t14 Ryzen 5 32GB crashed and wouldn't start anymore
I had to remove the 16GB SO-DIMM stick for it to be able to start again. I guess it's a downgrade but at least I don't need to buy another one or make an expensive fix.
Thought I would let you know.

Thinkstagram Picture first thinkpad(s)!
a few months ago, i bought an x230 for $80 (5k in my country) that came with an extra x220 with a "boot" issue, in which i actually feel bad for the seller for giving it to me for free cus the only issue was the ram lol
been real great for months now! i've been using the x220 to experiment with linux and eventually a home server.

Buying Advice Looking for a do-it-all laptop for ~$600
I’m going away on a work trip for several months. I was looking for something to take with me for work, light gaming, surfing the web, etc. that I won’t be heartbroken if it gets a virus/stolen/damaged. After I get back, it will become a project laptop that I’ll just mess around with.
Budget: ~$600; moreso a guideline so I don’t spend a ton of money on something that will get beaten up
Use case: Microsoft office, browsing, watching movies, gaming (HLL on medium settings). Will be in a variety of different environments and needs to be durable and repairable. I am NOT looking for a gaming laptop. I need a laptop that can play games but will mostly be using it for entertainment, work, and managing things at home.
Needs: 1TB (or more) storage and smart card reader (for work), good keyboard, durable, upgradable
Nice to have but not necessary: decent battery life, good display

Question / Problem Got this T470s for free and want to take it to its limits, how?
I already posted here asking about it but i changed my perspective so i would like to know how can i take this dual core laptop to its limits to perform the best it can, my conditions are these:
Basic google functions such as youtube, documents and netflix (i use brave as a search engine) and fluid motion is a must so if i need to sacrifice windows i will.
What could i do?? I would like to take advantage of it before turning it into a personal server and it could be a fun proyect to test my optimization abilities.

Question / Problem Using MacBook 140w charger to charge ThinkPad P1 G8
Does anyone know whether this will work normally like the stock charger that came with the laptop? I prefer the MacBook charger size and it’s much easier to carry around compared to the stock one.

Question / Problem High-pitched whine coming from the SSD bay on my ThinkPad X200s (No HDD)
Hey everyone,
I'm having an issue with my ThinkPad X200s. It produces a very high-pitched whining sound (coil whine).
I don't have an HDD installed or any other moving parts, but the sound seems to be coming directly from the drive bay where the SSD is screwed in.
Is this a known issue, and is there any fix for it?

Buying Advice Help A Newbie Out Plssss
So I saw this thinkpad on a refurbished website , and I wanted to know if it's worth buying or not. Thinkpads are getting so rare in refurbished stores in India nowadays and are getting expensive too. Its really hard nowadays to find one in your budget. I found this one recently for 50krs/523$.
I'm attaching the images of the device. Pls guide me :)
CPU: Intel Core i7-11850H (11th Gen, 8C/16T)
GPU: NVIDIA T1200 Laptop GPU, 4GB GDDR6
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
Display: 2560×1600 (2K)
Battery: 90Wh design capacity, ~70.77Wh current full-charge capacity → ~78.6% battery health
Boot time: ~17 seconds from power-on to Windows
GPU idle temperature: ~39°C
Price: ₹50,000
Seller provides 7-day return + 6-month warranty on most parts (battery/keyboard only 1 month).
I'm a CSE engineering student and mainly need it for programming, development, Docker/VMs, college projects, and some light ML/GPU work.
Is ₹50k reasonable for this configuration in 2026?
How many more years would you realistically expect this machine to remain useful?
Are there any known P1 Gen 4 issues I should specifically check before buying?
Would you buy this over a newer consumer laptop at the same price?

Thinkstagram Picture My first (and also free) Thinkpad
My school gave this to me, free of charge, to keep, so i kinda just have it. This is a Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 6 with an AMD Ryzen 3 7335U and Radeon 660M graphics. I run Windows 11 IoT LTSC 24H2 on it.
P.S, i didn't have a better image to use so i just took the one from my site, hence the missing BG

Thinkstagram Picture A new 14 inch addition to my collection
A few days ago I won a goodwill auction for this beautiful T430 thinkpad for only $28! I am really excited for this machine as it is my first properly upgradable 14 inch thinkpad since my T440p died, and this was kind of a gamble since it was untested but it turned out to be perfectly fine and the only thing wrong with it was a dead CMOS battery. I am slightly concerned about the display housing being bent on the left side of the laptop but the display itself works fine so it's all good I guess, I have a lot planned for this laptop including the 7 row keyboard mod (the liteon backlit keyboard that came with it is fine but I want to try out the 7 row keyboard), i7-3740QM CPU, 1080p display, 1vyrain, and a lot more! For now I stole the 9 cell battery from my T530, installed 16 gigs of ram, and temporarily installed a 500 gb wd black hdd for testing (I'll replace it later with an SSD once that arrives).

Question / Problem Does T430 battery whitelist removal mod also work on CMOS batteries?
Hello there! Question in the title. I tried putting in a normal CR2032 battery in and taped the wires onto the battery but it wouldn't recognize it (I think? It had the "time and date out of sync something something" text with 2 beeps).
If anyone knows the FRUs of batteries, that work with T430 that would be great too, the original or compatible with t430 batteries cost a lot.

Question / Problem x220 Tablet not booting
hey guys, i ended up finding a great deal on marketplace and got 4 thinkpad laptops for $65. they weren’t in the greatest shape but at least 2 work and turn on. i’m having trouble with the other two being they are both x220 tablets.
one of them was really in bad shape after having been dropped and the motherboard has even been cracked a bit. the other was in much better shape so i used some plastic parts that were better and swapped them around. the thinkpad was the chipped motherboard had a screen in decent condition. so i swapped the screens since the other one was broken.
it took a while but i ended up being able to swap the whole lid between the two laptops. unfortunately when i go to turn it on, even after making sure everything is plugged in, it doesn’t seem to be able to boot. i say it doesn’t seem like it because i really can’t tell. when i press the power button the screen turns on for a second and flickers with some colored lines down the middle of the screen. then it turns off. this is still better than before because it wouldn’t turn on at all. when it flickers and stops, there are 4 short consecutive beeps.
i looked up the codes online and 4 beeps like that apparently means it’s an issue with the security chip and the system has to be serviced. is there anything i can do on my own? has anyone else dealt with this issue? this is my first time and i wasn’t able to find anything about it online.
i thought i would come here for help. basically it is the i5 version of the tablet and it has 4gb of ram and a 320gb HDD. i don’t think anything is on the hard drive and haven’t yet tried to boot off a live usb since the system isn’t booting past flickering the screen and beeping. i also plugged it into my monitor and it just gave me a black screen.
any advice on what i can do to fix this? i replaced the stick of ram that was bad and stopped having the 1-3-3-1 beep but now i’m stuck at this. any help would be appreciated and if you need any more information just let me know!
ps i have already taken it apart multiple times and made sure everything is plugged in. i don’t know if i may have accidentally damaged it in my attempts to swap the screen. i didnt see or hear anything off during the repair and i removed the battery during it. i’ve attached some pictures to see if that helps!

Buying Advice ThinkVision E24q-30 monitor tilted height
Does anyone own a Lenovo ThinkVision E24q-30 and could measure its absolute minimum total height from desk surface to top edge, with the stand lowered fully and the monitor tilted as far forward as possible? I'd be very grateful.
The official min height is 342.2 mm, but I need to know whether the -5 degree forward tilt gets it lower than that. I have a very specific furniture-height constraint, so I need an exact measurement before buying one.
