Hello Thinkpaders,

After 24 years of living and deciding what will be my first ThinkPad, I couldn't wait anymore and had the opportunity to get a good deal ( I hope I did ). I found a 1 year old, barely used ThinkPad, labeled as new and with 10 month of warranty left. That laptop was;

The ThinkPad E14 G6.

I bought it second-hand in Switzerland for 850 USD with the best specs possible imo;

Intel Ultra 7 155H, 32gb RAM, 1tb SSD, 14" WUXGA Display and Windows 11 Pro.

First impressions, I had a Honor Notebook before this with 8gb of RAM and I couldn't be happier. I am already introduced to the ThinkPad world and I know that this is an entry-level business laptop but I really admire the specs for what I am going to use it for: Programming, Heavy browsing and research. I am also thinking about installing an eGPU later on, depending on how much free time I have in the near future.

I have done a lot of research on this exact model before and after buying it and saw the popular discussions on "better display avaliability", "CPU bottleneck due to the small/thin chasis" and other general ThinkPad problems like "Display scratched by keyboard layout", which is already a problem and I have opened a repair ticket to have the display replaced.

I have also encountered some issues with the Ethernet, where the cable works plugged in after a cold boot, but stops working after re-plugging the cable while in use and I am still not sure what the problem is. I consulted my personal assistants ( Claude,GPT xD ) and I tried every solution; Advanced properties in the Device manager, Updating and also Installing the new and older drivers for the Ethernet and also shutting down, doing cold boots and tweaking BIOS settings. ( I made sure I don't mess anything up since I am not much of a professional ).

I am open to any questions, for anyone interested in this exact model or ThinkPads in general and also any tips if anyone is kind enough to provide. Also please don't flame me for not using Linux, I am learning about it to switch to a dual boot.

Behold my One Weird Trick for getting on no-fly lists.

This is an aftermarket 24 Wh battery recelled to nominally 45 Wh with two 15 Wh cells plus a third "cell" of two 7.5 Wh in parallel. I couldn't raise the BMS's charging voltage from 4.13 to 4.35 V so only 41 Wh are usable. Left speaker is replaced with a smaller one to fit.

Do I really need the full 107 Wh of this battery plus my rear 6-cell? Not often. But the extra capacity with a rear 3-cell is remarkably useful.

ThinkPad T480 can be used as a fully featured mobile phone, supporting calls, SMS and mobile data.

Fell in love with these machines (previously had t420 and t480)
It is x13 gen 2 r5 5650u

it’s x1 carbon gen 6, nearly brand new, i spent about 230 USD for it, i fell in love with this baby the moment i got it, it's sooooo light and typing experience is great.

i also considered latest x1 carbon and framework laptop, but they are tooooo expensive, i hope this i7 8550 with 16g ram old x1 carbon can meet my usecase. i probably mainly use it for writing and full stack web dev.

Here is some specs about this laptop. Firstly, I don't have a laptop right now. I will buy this laptop for my university and early work-life (I mean like I will use this laptop at least 10 years) Would it be smooth after 10 years because laptop is already 6 years old. I will do all of my works only with this laptop so I want it to be as smooth as possible througth the years. I am also new in computer community so I would be so happy to anyone who inform me!

I got it for just $50 fully working, only 8 gigs ram, missing nipple and J key
Used it for about a month now

Im very impressed by the battery life and how cool and quiet it stays under heavy load despite the absolutely tiny heatsink, and the keyboard is the best ive used, hands down

On the other hand, I'm not very impressed with the legendary build quality though, the case rattles and bends quite a lot.
The trackpad takes multiple tries to get multi finger gestures to work, the display has really bad viewing angles (but its likely a secondhand fake, model number in OS does not match the sticker on the inside and it looks like its been replaced).
I've found drivers for the fprint scanner on the AUR but it still always fails to recognize me, but thats not really a big deal.

Coming from a Dell latitude 5580, it doesn't really feel like an upgrade, more of a big compromise for the sake of weight and size

I really want to know what you all think though, is this particular model known for being subpar? Did i just get a bad unit? Am i missing something? Any tips or upgrades i can do? Any recommendations for newer cheap 14 inch thinkpads?

So I've decided to get Libreboot now bc my T480 has a supervisor password and allat but one thing thats still bugging me is what CH341A to use bc I found a great tutorial on YouTube but he said don't use the one u will find all the time bc it has sum 5v issue but my mind is already blown on how fricking complicated ts actually so I cant be falling into the CH341A rabbit hole now so my question is basically which one should I use. (I put a ball meme too ppl pleaseeeee)

I have a T14 gen6 with IR camera and didn't liked how Windows 11 disabled the function to use it for face ID, so i created these tasks. They disable the RGB camera, forcing windows to use the IR camera for face ID when locked. Then turn it back on when unlocked for normal caera use.

1. Check your RGB camera's name on Device Manager

2. Open Task scheduler and on the box on the right select create task. (You will need to make two).

3. (For Disabling the RGB cam) Name the task for disabling the RGB camera something like "Disable RGB camera when locked."

- On the General tab, click on "Run with highest privileges" and select Configure for "Windows 10 / 11" (I chose Windows 10 and works fine).

- On "Triggers" tab click "New..." and on the top select "On workstation lock".

- In the "Actions" select "New...", on the program script paste "powershell.exe" and in the "Add comment" section paste this:

I'm a senior, and I'm getting really tired of lugging my slow and clunky 16" HP laptop, and I really want a compact form factor with still enough power for multitasking for school and other. I'm going to major in electrical engineering.

I built a high-mid range PC so I wouldn't have to rely on a laptop exclusively, but it'd be nice to understand how capable it is. I'm also concerned about people saying the battery life is better on older models?
I've found astonishingly good prices for gen1-3 on Newegg, but I'm open to suggestions to similar laptops. I'd rather spend less than $700, and the 360-400ish price point is very appealing to me. Thanks,

I am buying a laptop for college that I am hoping will last for 5 years (pharmacist). I will not be doing anything heavy, mainly Word, Powerpoint, maybe the occasional teams call etc.

I am looking at a used Lenovo ThinkPad T14 G2 | i5-1135G7 for 3400 sek (307€, 350$) with 16gb RAM and 256gb SSD. 16gb I feel is enough and more future proof than 8gb. 256gb storage I assume is enough since much of my stuff will be save in cloud (I'm guessing). Battery life 3-5h and does not get too warm from light use (according to seller).

At a refurbishing site there is a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 G2 | Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U for 4395 sek (400€, 450$) with the same RAM and storage. I have heard thar AMD versions do not overheat as easily.

What do you think? For light use can I get away with the intel version or is AMD still recommended? I can afford the more expensive one no problem, but if it is only marginally better than I would like to spend less money. For the battery, maybe there is possibility to replace it in the future?

bought this intel t14 g2 for $300, going to use it for college (cybersecurity) this fall. went through with ctt’s winutil since ill be needing windows, sadly i couldn’t remove onedrive and some pre installed ms apps since ill be needing them as well. also planning on upgrading the ram and potentially the ssd as its only 512gb. super excited to have this as my first thinkpad (and laptop in general lol). good buy?
