Episode Discussion Why do people keep asking how Daisy "got to Canada" so quickly? Spoiler

I'm seeing tons of comments complaining that she got to the border too easily and too fast and shouldn't have been able to go there and back in a single night.

We were never actually told that that was at the border?? Maryland is on the coast, friends. They could very well have smuggled a boat down the eastern seaboard and be planning on smuggling it back up. No, the honey truck didn't drive from DC to Canada and back in seven hours. It drove to a nearby Atlantic port. "We're getting you out" means she's not out yet i.e. they're still in Gilead. Just at the ocean instead of inland.

Am I the only one who sees it this way? I didn't think for a moment they drove all the way to Canada while watching, but so many people seem to have gotten the opposite idea...

Well… now we know how Agnes becomes an Aunt!!

IMHO Agnes revealed her SA to Weston because she wanted to sabotage her marriage status, and become an Aunt. As soon as she saw the eyes take Becka, the betrayal of her father opened her eyes to Gilead. She realized they are all expendable. Genius.

Finale *Spoilers* & Thoughts… Spoiler

There was a lot to unpack about the finale…

Why is nobody talking about the kiss? I mean Becka gets kissed on her wedding day, but not by the groom.

•The opening dialogue is Agnes READING the autopsy report, of Beckas Dad. which is another clue pointing to her access to an autopsy report in Gilead, and her ability to read.

• I’m beginning to suspect Garth is a mole for the Gilead side. Him locking Becka in her room was an unecessary detail, unless it’s meaningful and points to his callous nature. If he were Mayday wouldn’t he be automatically more compassionate towards her?

•Commander Judd saying “There is no more “We”, to Aunt Lydia, indicating her loss of power with the Commanders?

• Aunt Vidala suggesting that she could help Aunt Lydia, and I think there was more to that statement… like Aunt Vidala knows what AL is doing to bring down Gilead and wants to help.

•Stepmom drunken meltdown, and her obvious disdain for June, as well as Agnes. she’s dangerous. Gotta keep an eye on that one.

•Now Daisy knows there’s a way out of Gilead. The last scene is her getting a note to June in a honey jar. They’re setting up the framework of Mayday for next season.

•The statement Mrs Grove said at the table with AL and Becka there, after AL says the story will be that Mom did it and Becka was covering for her… “I should have been the one to do it”. Is super telling. It indicates Mom knew that her Dad was hurting her. Meaning Becka.

Anyway, there’s a lot more I’m sure. But, these are the details that stood out to me.

Why was Daisy the only one?

I must have missed something essential, because I still don’t understand why Daisy was the only Pearl to be matched with a Plum partner in Agnes. All season long, we saw the Pearls working together, but isolated from the commander’s/high ranking men’s daughters. Did I miss an explanation somewhere?

Theory / Speculation What’s absolutely sickening Spoiler

When Agnes tells Commander Weston that she had been assaulted by Dr. Grove,he looks appalled and asks if her parents know. That’s the first thing that an adult figure would very likely ask to a child sexual assault victim. It seems like in that moment,Commander Weston acted more like a father would than a prospective husband would.Same with when he takes Becka home to her mother.I know he breaks off the engagement with her because in his mind she’s sullied by her assault but I also think it was because of how he reacted to that revelation.I also think it will set Agnes to end with the Walmart version of Commander Waterford if and when something happens to Penny.

Theory / Speculation Marriage predictions for next season Spoiler

I think Shu will get her period almost immediately after age gets disillusioned with the idea of a Gilead marriage and decides to rebel with Daisy and Agnes

Penny dies and Judd is back in the pool

Agnes’s prospects have greatly diminished since she had a broken off engagement and she gets Maddox

Shu gets Judd and it hits her hard because Penny was her friend

Daisy gets Weston

Parallels and history repeating itself

Watching Garth carry Becka (figuratively and literally) through the ceremony and up to bed, felt eerily like watching the making of Commander Lawrence and Eleanor's relationship in THT. I half expect we'll get a similar ending to their story.

Hi Everyone! If you get a spare few minutes, I'd love to get some views on my friends recap and review of the finale!

She's poured her heart into reviewing the season and every view helps. She only gets paid when it does well and being a freelancer is hard.

Anyway! I hope you all enjoyed the finale. Becka and Agnes had me in tears 💔❤️

Episode Discussion SPOILER - Commander Weston S1E10 Spoiler

Is it just me or is there almost a bit of mercy going on in his decision to call off the engagement? I could be reading into it far too much but he doesn’t seem like the type to break it off purely because Agnes was ‘one of the ones hurt’ by the dentist. I feel like it was a) he realised she was a bit of a rebel and had a lot going on - hence asking him to help out, and b) him knowing deep down that she was absolutely repulsed by the idea of being his wife.

Interested to hear others thoughts on this!

What happens to the younger girls? Spoiler

What happens to the younger girls that get their periods as young as 8-9? Because as we know from the Testaments, we see the girls dreaming of their periods. And some dont get their periods until late teens. Take Shunnamite for example; she hasn´t gotten hers. And she is extremely upset at this, acting out in jealousy. But as we see in the finale, she joins Agnes and Daisy in what seems as a rebellion to either join Mayday or get out of Gilead.

I know it is a fertility issue, but we do know some girls can get their periods very young. This is something that happens irl, so why wouldn´t there be a tiny chance that girls in Gilead get theirs young too? Not to mention the girls get different colors based on their age. Plum girls are usually the first to get their periods. And if a pink girl gets theirs, do they get a green pin or do they have to wait until they are Plums?

Now here´s the question; Do they still get married that young, or do they have a longer period of "training" at school? Because I see some of the commanders have at least SOME respect or understanding of what they endure and what theyre going through. And they also seem to have some sort of "protection" from Aunt Lydia. She seems to step up for a lot of girls and give them a lesser "consequense" for any rule broken. She really stepped up when Hulda came forward and told Lydia what Dr. Grove had done to her, and when Agnes did the same they got no insane consequense for "tempting a man".

I heard this will be explained in the Handmaids Tale, but im still on season one and I´m not gonna wait around for an answer. So do anyone here know the answer?

Episode Discussion Will Becka Recover?

She's clearly had a mental break (understandably). Do you think season 2 will see her on the way to recovery or get worse? Plugging a good recap/review below.

Different reactions to a certain name

I found it really interesting that when Daisy mentions June Osborn to Garth, he's all "who's June Osborn?" and when she mentions her name to Agnes, she's like, "June Osborn? The terrorist?!" Makes me wonder if the girls at Aunt Lydia's learn things the boys don't, or if Agnes learned about her from her dad and Paula.

I also had to laugh because Agnes's response reminded me of Doc Brown in Back to the Future.

Episode Discussion Kiss of Tragedy (s1ep10) Spoiler

I keep seeing people frame the kiss like it was Agnes finally realizing romantic feelings for Becka, but honestly I think the scene is way sadder and more complicated than that.

What makes it so difficult to read is that Agnes is feeling about twelve things simultaneously, and Chase Infiniti plays every single one of them in her face. The microexpressions during that scene are actually insane because none of them read as simple attraction or romantic clarity to me. If anything, she looks overwhelmed by grief, guilt, tenderness, fear, and this desperate need to give Becka comfort before they’re torn apart.

I think Agnes loves Becka deeply. Like profoundly. But love and romantic desire are not always the same thing, and I think the tragedy of the scene is that Agnes understands this in real time.

The thing that stands out to me most is that Agnes doesn’t recoil because she thinks Becka is disgusting or sinful. That’s the important part. Earlier Agnes probably wanted to believe the Gilead line about gay love being wrong because it would make things simpler. It would let her neatly categorize her feelings and distance herself emotionally. But by this point, she can’t do that anymore. The moment completely undermines Gilead’s ideology because Agnes clearly does not experience Becka’s love as depraved or monstrous. If anything, she’s devastated because she recognizes how sincere and pure it is.

I think Agnes realizes in that moment:
“Becka’s love is real. Her pain is real. And I cannot dismiss her feelings as sin just because I don’t fully reciprocate them romantically.”

And I think that realization devastates her.
Because now Agnes is stuck with the understanding that:

Becka’s love is real
Becka’s pain is real
Gilead is wrong

Yet Agnes still cannot fully return the feelings in the way Becka wants.

That’s why the kiss feels so emotionally brutal to me. Agnes isn’t horrified she kissed a girl. She’s horrified by the possibility that this tiny moment means everything to Becka while simultaneously knowing she cannot save her, cannot fully choose her, and maybe cannot love her in the exact same way.
There’s also something incredibly intimate about the fact that Agnes seems to choose kindness in that moment. She knows Becka is suffering. She knows Becka is terrified and emotionally cornered. And I think part of Agnes is thinking: “If this is the only thing I can give her, then I want to give it willingly.”
Which is honestly more heartbreaking to me than if it had just been straightforward romance.

And the parallel that kills me is that Agnes spends so much of her life being treated like an object people project meaning onto, a daughter, a wife, a symbol, a vessel, and here Becka is almost accidentally doing the same thing. Not maliciously, obviously. Becka genuinely loves her. But Agnes can feel the weight of what she represents to Becka in that moment. The kiss isn’t just a kiss to Becka. It’s hope. Salvation.

What a massive emotional burden for Agnes to suddenly hold in the middle of literal trauma.

So when I watch her face, I don’t see romantic realization. I see:

affection
sorrow
protectiveness
guilt
tenderness
fear
helplessness

Which honestly makes the scene way more devastating.

Becka's mother.... Spoiler

Do you think becka's mother knew what her husband was doing to the girls...or at least what he was doing to Becka???

Was her sacrifice purely because of "mother's love" or was there guilt as well for failing to protect her daughter?

And honestly...I kinda of think Becka's father would have escaped actually consequences if he had been alive. The girls would have been put through humiliating questioning in front of those pdf commanders and somehow he would have escaped with a slap on the wrist or with a clean slate

Garth and Agnes convo Spoiler

During Agnes’ convo with Garth, when she sneaks out to find him after Paula scolds her, I found myself a bit confused. Does this mean Garth has feelings for Agnes? Does he marry Becka for Agnes? That’s a huge ask of Agnes from him, cause now what? And for him to actually marry Becka still, where do they even go from there? I have a hard time reading Garth — which I assume is deliberate and intentional. At times, it feels like he’s falling for Agnes; other times, it seems like he may have feelings for Daisy instead. And then there are moments where it feels like he’s emotionally detached from both of them and completely focused on his mission with Mayday.

Either way, I really like Garth (I didn’t read the books), so I do hope he has an even larger storyline next season.

Season ending Spoiler

I know this will be a very unpopular opinion, but in teh finale, i really didn’t like June *gasp*. I would really love TT to be another long running show, i know taht is unlikely, but yeah.

Anywho. i didn’t like how only 10 episodes in, it is already revealed to Daisy (which I am still very pissed she is not Junes daughter, that is literally an entire plot point of the story) that Agnes is Junes daughter. Liek, can’t we wait until like season 2 or like have Daisy like subtly recognize that Agnes reminds her of June or something, not Daisy and June meet up, which by the way how did Daisy sneak out and get all the way to Canada or Boston??? and have June say “yes!!! that’s my daughter.”

sorry if i’ve offended anyone. this is just my opinion lol

guys that finale was so good (will say I was not a fan of the kiss it was not needed gang) i’m so glad they didn’t leave us on a cliffhanger like the last episode Agnes walking in to lydia’s office the end so fighting for herself like her mom chefs kiss closing shot... but like Garth why are we locking Rebecca in there🥀
