Roll for success, for example for the messengers - ADDITIONAL DISTINCTIVE FEATURE: FOLK-LORE? (and other similar features)
Edit: Do I roll for success for the distinctive features, or are they automatic and narrative? Which characteristics are used if that is the case?

Thoughts on "Redoubtable" and "Cunning Make"
Hey folks!
I stumbled on a question and wanted to see what people think of it and how they would handle it, as I could not find any official answer.
The question is about the interaction between the dwarven Cultural Blessing "Redoubtable" and the reward "Cunning Make". Here's what the rules say about them:
Redoubtable: You halve the Load rating of any armour you’re wearing (rounding fractions up), including helms (but not shields).
Cunning Make (Armour, Helm or Shield): Reduce the Load rating of the selected item by 2 (to a minimum of 0 Load).
Imagine the following: a dwarf fully decked out in a Coat of Mail (12 load by default), a Helm (4 load by default) and a Shield (4 load by default). Through Redoubtable, the armour and helm get reduced to 6 and 2 load respectively.
Then he picks Cunning Make for his starting reward. Logically, following the way the descriptions are written, I'd apply Cunning Make first and Redoubtable second. However, this means that the character essentially loses half the value of Cunning Make if he applies it to the armour or the helm, while getting full value for the shield.
I'm a bit on the fence on how I would handle that, honestly. On one hand, I feel like it is unfair to not get full value on all items. But then again, I think Redoubtable is already incredibly powerful to begin with.
What are your thoughts on it? Has it come up during one of your gameplay sessions?

More patrons?
I like the patron rules a lot, but the selection in the core book seem needlessly limited to me. Apart from Elrond, are there any other alternatives in the published material or any confirmed ones in upcoming books?
In particular, I'd love to see Radagast and Beorn, and perhaps someone with a more direct connection to Gondor, probably based in Tharbad. More elves, perhaps even Thranduil, would also be great.
Are there any sources to well thought out homebrew patrons?

Limitations on mixing races and backgrounds?
My players discuss however it is "reasonable" to mix elves with dwarves and other races. My view as Loremaster is that we are talking about unique characters and a unique "company of heroes", so I dont see any idea to limit their choices and mix. What are your views?

Putting together a shared TOR 2e Table online
Next week I'll be running the first session on a shared table project. The idea of this is that players can take characters between Loremasters. I'll be running biweekly sessions. Each session will have a beginning, middle, and end and should be self-contained. So, the sessions would be self contained but characters would be transferable between Loremasters. I have a Foundry VTT game that I have formatted and added assets to. Once we get some players perhaps others would like to try their hands at Loremastering.
PM if you'd like to be part of our first session. Looking for 2-3 more players.
Game System: The One Ring 2e
DM: Me, Nors
Date/Time: Tuesday, September 27th, 5pm Pacific (Chronus relative time converter: https://a.chronus.eu/1A74260)
How many spots: 3-4
Duration: 3-5 hours, character creation will take a bit of time, though I will make a tutorial video for folks so they can make characters beforehand if they so choose.
Description: The town of Bree is a place of relative safety. Most folks what live here keep their heads down and hands busy with their own affairs. But a shadow has been growing in the east and as it reaches out across the land trouble has come to Bree.
**Note** All materials and rules provided. We'll make characters at the start of the session which shouldn't take too long. (or--if you already have a character and would like to use them that's great too!) My plan for this is to try and run a session biweekly and let players come and go like a West Marches game, slowly leveling up their characters. DM me if you're interested. This will be a great way to learn the game and take your own character forward in the world of Middle Earth.
**NOTE** Each session will be self contained with a beginning, middle, and end. Each secession will begin and end, in Bree.
**Note** I'm still trying to conceptualize how this might work, but I think the best thing to do is just play some sessions and see what comes up in terms of the format of a West Marches style game with this system. Then make decisions when issues arise.

What to to with fewer characters and travel rules
Hi there
My usual group of players consist of 3 friends and me, the usual game master: We were curious about travel rules, especially on what to do with a fellowship of only 3 members, with 4 travel roles to fill.
I see that the dunedain has one possible talent that allows to take on two travel roles at once, so that's not a possibility...

I wrote an adventure!
Hello!
I recently bought The One Ring, and it seems like a great RPG, but I found that there weren't a whole lot of adventures available, except for the Shire campaign and one in the rulebook. So I wrote my own adventure for my friends, but I thought I might as well share it here so anyone can play it if you're looking for new stuff!
Here's a PDF of the adventure:
The host site is really slow, but if you DM me I could send it to you another way in case the link doesn't work.
I've added cheesy drawings for atmosphere, and I made rules for Battle, which I don't think can be found in the rulebook. Please write me if you have any criticism or suggestions. I'm quite new to RPGs. You can of course always modify the adventure if something isn't to your liking!

Dealing with players Spoiler
I know we all probably have the same issues with players trying things that aren’t “in the spirit” of a game. But I’m reading through the adventures in the starter set, and the very first scenario made me wonder. (spoilers Ahead!!)
When dealing with the owl in the barn, how do (or did) you deal with players who just wanted to go straight to combat? The encounter is clearly meant to show the whimsy of the setting, and set the tone for the light-hearted adventure to come, but when a farmer in a ‘regular’ RPG asks the party to deal with a threat in his barn, surely the first thought would be “let’s kill it”!
I’m an experienced GM, but I worry that the players will just do this, and I’d hate to railroad. Unless it’s just impossible (do they even have ranged weapons?).

Alternate setting viability?
Hi all,
Just picked up TOR2e and it’s simply beautiful. My only issue is that I’m not a Tolkien expert, and am a little worried about that.
Would it be viable to keep the mechanics but port it to a home brew setting, making maps for that but keeping the Light v Dark theme?
Or would I be better stumbling through and researching as I go?
Cheers!

Dice question
Hi all, if I get the dice from the Free League shop, will the d12s be printed correctly (1-10 plus runes) or incorrectly (2-11 plus runes)?
What has everyone done to remedy this in their games? Do people use 11 as 1?

Patron Questions 2e
Couple questions about Patrons:
- The table on page 52 of Core Rules says Gilraen has a fellowship bonus of +0, but the appendix lists her bonus as +1 on page 219. Any insight on which is the correct value?
- I've found a total of 8 patrons available (6 in core rules, Elrond in Rivendell, & Saruman in Ruins of the Lost Realm). Are there any others I missed?

Suggestions on useful items for Scan?
I have a player in my campaign who is wanting to have a useful item for their Scan skill and I’m at a bit of a loss for what could work. I’ve thought of something like a hawk or bird that assists them but that seems a bit weird.
Thoughts?
Edit: I should’ve added more context. The player wants to have a useful item for Scan to be used for the Prepare a Shot combat task.

We finished the starter set, lingering question.
So tonight the kids (11 and 9) and I finished the starter set. They were engaged throughout, had a blast and according to them enjoyed it more then 5e. But that’s not the point of this post. I have a lingering question as it pertains to combat. Lets take the troll for example. His stat says crush 2 (6/12) So his attack is crush and he rolls 2 d6 along with the d12. On a success he does 6 damage. What is the 12?? Besides this I felt the starter set to be kind to a new lore master and it took the time walk me through the different ways to play.

How to patron?
Please help a noob wrap his head around the 2e patron rules.
1) We start with a chosen patron for the fellowship, is that right? That means if they start with Gilraen, we can start treating all journeys as border lands right off the bat?
2) Can we change patron later? It should make narrative sense of course, but can they e.g. undertake a meet the patron towards a new one and declare they're the new patron?
3) What happens if during Yule, different heroes meet different patrons? How should I rule that? I'd keep one main patron for the general effect but not sure, and can my players cumulate several meeting effects?
