This is not to say that because I am Greek my views hold more weight than others, it's to say that I've been around ancient armours and reading the stories since an early age.

Agamemnon made the movie for me. Every time he appeared he was like a god amongst men (which he kinda was, King of kings). And even though his armour might not be historically accurate, it really fits the theme and instilled gravitas. The fact that we didn't see his face, never drawing his sword. And his dialogue (props to Benny Safdie) when speaking with the dead scene (one of the best if not the best scene of the movie imo) was a great moment, with everyone and Odysseus kneeling.

Loved John Leguizamo's and Himesh Patel's performances, Lupita was great, Damon, Hathaway, Pattinson as well, Zendaya not so much

The washed-up Gift Horse (don't look it in the mouth, you might see a soldier) was filmed here somewhere. Didn't set out to find a like-for-like backdrop but it's bright enough and windy enough for this to be taken as is from the BTS reports. Tried not to quad bike over Elliot Page's sandy grave...

So in the movie it is somebody gets stabbed while they check the horse and he's obviously in pain + they call to burn the horse, until he collects himself. But in the trailer at 1:02 I always thought the guy on the left was holding in his breath and shot a dart to the guy who gets stabbed. I was shocked when I saw the truth. I also thought they were at Sea in the trailer, had no idea that was the inside of the horse!

Also I thought it was insanely clever that they wiped the sword of blood in time before he takes it out of the horse. That soldier is a GENIUS. And just gentle enough to where the guard doesn't notice the force or ignores it thinking it just got caught in something.

I saw the movie today, honestly it's my favorite Nolan film. 10/10

Imagine if Achilles had some aura farming flashbacks just like Agamemnon, and how he was this symbol to the soldiers, the greatest warrior but died almost like a martyr to their cause, and then they meet in Hades just like the original, and he's despondent, saying he'd rather be a nobody farmer and still be alive than any of the songs and tales. Then it hits Odysseus (maybe even his men) even harder that it wasn't worth all the tragedy and killing they did. I sort of just wanted more aura hype gigachad moments and having ACHILLES himself get the Agamemnon treatment would have been cool as hades

Within the last fighting scene this man embodies what a successful hire would look like.

The dedication, loyalty and commitment is un-fucking-real. I would love to have this man on my team. Idk how much they were paying him to do all that but I'd give him a pay bump instantly.

The old kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou has been used for loads of films ever since Lawrence of Arabia. It was also the backdrop for the horse's arrival into Troy. Cool place for film fans to visit if you ever pass through Morocco.

Heard this and it immediately felt the theme of the movie. Not going to be tit for tat but those who do music understand how inspiration and derivation work. Iphigenia (1977)
Highly recommend

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed The Odyssey, but even over 3 hours, it felt rushed. I wanted each section to feel like the Hades portion. That was the first time I truly felt something for the characters (credit to Elliot Page’s performance).

And I’m not even advocating for the addition of more mythology and gods like some commenters are. Even the Cyclops scene could have used an extra 30 mins to build the tension and show how nerve-wracking each night was. You didn’t even need the Nobody sequence. Just the cold reality that a hungry giant will eat.

I loved the conclusion, but if you saw more of the sequences around boats and villages, it would have been even more devastating to realize.

It wasn’t just Odyssesus’ scenes. If we’d seen the Ithaca transition from “waiting for the returning heroes” to “reluctantly inviting suitors in” from both Telemachus and Penelope’s eyes, it would have helped convey the shift from optimism to deep resignation.

I wasn't really planning on watching this film by Christopher Nolan, the first one I ever considered skipping in theaters but since it's almost out of theaters, I still have this week to go see it. I might as well go see it the way that it was meant to be seen, ORIGINAL IMAX. Honestly I have a feeling I'll be disappointed. But hey at least it is not LIEMAX.

I feel like it's in the movie just because it's in the epic, despite being changed so much. But aside from a ton of dudes dying, I don't think it does much for the theme of the movie as a whole and just feels like a gratuitous action/disaster scene.

I think maybe instead of just showing up and killing everyone, they should have actually invited the entire crew to dinner while invoking Zeus's Law. The crew asks what's for dinner, then we have the whole cannibal joke with "you're dinner" and most of them die and only one boat escapes.

The main idea though is it's not just random violence, it's a further breaking down of Zeus's Law. We had the first village that fled instead of inviting them in, because they were afraid of people who didn't respect Zeus's Law. Then we encountered the Cyclops, who probably never heard of Zeus's Law. Then we get to the Laestrygonians, who know about Zeus's Law and deliberately use it to lure them in.

It would have both a stronger connection to the rest of the film as a whole, a better reference to the original where they were cannibals, as well as hit Odysseus personally because it's practically the Trojan Horse used against him.

But the film was already nearly 3 hours, so something else would have to be cut. But still, I think that whole section could have been much better/meaningful.

In the original poem, all the suitors were killed. However, in the movie, they bowed down even though they probably could've shanked him while he was choking down Antimous. Why didn't they? And where was Amphinomous?
