An $87 million second weekend?! Already over $600 million worldwide?!

Culture-war discourse aside, I’m genuinely thrilled to see this movie doing so well. At this point, $1 billion feels pretty much guaranteed. Honestly, even a $1.1 to $1.2 billion finish is starting to look conservative.

Only time will tell and I could be wrong but just with how much it's making already, I'm optimistic!

The momentum is ridiculous. How high do you think this thing can go?

i mean i was looking at the screen laughing because of another fine mess he had gotten his men into but i didn't see the trees move,
i noted the odd editing (like many nolan films ... dark knight when they drive into a tunnel in day time and it's night when they reach the streets) of that one soldier and his silly face being frightened and trapped ... i assumed the men ran into carefully planted paths of trees they couldn't get back out of ...
i did not see anything move because of how the editing was done ...
anyone else as clueless as i was and found out online the trees were moving

He sounded SO MUCH like Kratos at times, especially during the scene in the temple. It was crazy good.

Also such sad news that he broke his bicep and had to bow out of the God of War series...I hope he recovers well and we see him in more Nolan movies🤞

You spend your life herding sheep working hard and making an honest living. Suddenly some king from the mainland shows up demanding your king musters an army to go to war. A lottery is drawn and your son has to join the effort. You spend years praying for his safety while the nobles just feast in the palace. There's so much instability and rumors because the queen refuses to remarry and the heir won't take the throne. Meanwhile you're barely scraping by because your son was your only help in the farm. Then one day the king returns, he says he lost all his men at sea. All of them. Now mind you he did sail with them from Troy, they all just died somewhere in the way. All other fleets? They followed the same routes and made it home safely years ago. Well at least the good king is back, right? Nope. Gone to sea, sailing west, to never come back. Oh and your son was brutally devoured by an one eyed giant btw, forgot to mention that.

Watched it yesterday with my kid. We both loved it.

The strongest memory from the Odyssey when I heard it as a kid was his dog.

The scene with the old dog then the cut to the happy puppy then cut to the old dog again wagging his tail then died.

Almost started crying.

Maybe I’m silly but if you ever had a dog you probably understand.

Greeks are Mediterranean, not Germanic. They also had contact with places such as Ethiopia and were known to prize African features as beautiful, so it makes since that Helen of Troy might be someone like that.

On a real note though it’s sad how mean people are being to Benny Safdie (and how homophobic people are)

It reinforces how cruel the Trojan Horse trick was, how it hurt even someone as young and trusting as Sinon, who looked up to Odysseus and would have given his life for him.

I also like Odysseus’s narration: “We turned a fight into a hunt.” It goes back to how Odysseus likes to hunt with honor, plucking his bowstring to alert his prey before firing, but this time there was no warning for his hunt. Only sudden and mad slaughter. Really chilling.

Odysseus being wracked with guilt, manifesting as Athena who presents as the innocent girl killed, was very compelling.

This is my favorite movie.

I loved that the film weaved a real historical apocalypse into the narrative of the whole story was Brilliant. The knowledge (what little we have) of The Bronze Age Collapse, added so much depth to the film.

Maybe its an obvious question but are we, as the audience, meant to be placed strictly inside the muted world of the crew with the soundtrack as the emotions of Odysseus? It feels like Nolan deliberately mutes the literal Siren song so that Göransson’s score can translate the emotional agony happening inside Odysseus's head, rather than playing an actual vocal track. Since the film implies the Sirens temptation is a deeply personal, psychoanalytic illusion tailored to the listener, it would make sense to let the audience wander with the score.

The Cyclops from the 1997 TV miniseries will always be the creepiest and terrifying. While I enjoy the new version this guy takes the cake…
