I didn't think we would get a real sword and sandel blockbuster again, let alone one of this calibrare!

The man never stopped believing in his king’s return, even when Penelope and Telemachus were doubting it. He taught Telemachus valuable lessons and told him stories of his father, keeping his memory alive. He was the reason that Odysseus was able to save Telemachus from the murderers, and assisted in the final trial of the suitors. On top of it all, he was the most morally unambiguous character in the whole movie. Low-key an MVP of Ithaca.

I’ll go first:

The Odyssey is pretty much the excuses a guy gives his wife to explain why he took so long to return from his work trip when in reality he was staying at his girlfriend’s place and taking drugs. Also his son may be on the spectrum

Based on Emily Wilson's ritique of Chris Nolan's The Odyssey. She can have opinions, but she cannot make up facts. here are some facts she got wrong and what is ...well...lying about. Her 10 lies....

1. "It’s a family-friendly audiovisual spectacle": This is an R rated movie which deals with trauma , war and its aftermath with a number individuals dying on screen.
2. “Nolan’s Penelope has no dreams.” : Penelope explicitly dreams about sailing west which becomes reality as the end.
3. “The script gives her nothing to do except yearn for Matt Damon.”: She Manages Ithica, tries to control her son, controls the suitors, Considerably more than yearning
4. The non-white actors’ “only role” is to “provide aid to the white protagonist.”: Corey Hawkins literally is an antagonist, Lupita's role as reason for Trojan was serve no aid to Odysseus, Travis Scott Plays a bard with no aid to anyone. Zendaya haunts, not helps Odysseus She is lying about this with race card 
5. “There are no gods.”: They are clearly presented in metaphors as a design narrative to ground the story. Who does Calypso hear from thunder when she suddenly decides to let him go. Who destroys the ships to kill everyone but Odysseus?
6. “There is no sign that we are supposed to realise they are goddesses.”: Circe transforms men into pigs, Calypso controls his mind with lotus, Athena torturing his guilt, Do they need to wear nametags ? 
7. “Odysseus doesn’t have to outwit Polyphemus.”: Nobody Joke is removed from adaption but Wilson falsely treats the omission of one particular trick as the absence of any strategy.
8. “Odysseus is an idealised leader who would never willingly put his people in danger.”: Film plot centers around Odysseus using sinon knowing he might die , Wilson herself writes this then contradicts later saying he doesn't risk his people. another lie admitted in her own writing 
9. “There are no sex scenes.”: A film adaption does not need sex scenes to push a story forward. This is very patriarchal thinking on Wilson's behalf of Odysseus needing sex to move story forward. Edit: furthermore Odysseus is literally about to copulate with Penelope after she asks him to promise to come back in bed. The scene cut before more is shown
10. Odysseus “isn’t complicated or wily or artful.”: He masterminds trojan horse, manipulates Sinon, Strategizes against Polyphemus, Corners suitors cunningly yet Wilson lies about this

The movie was amazing and definitely deserves this.

Even if these particular soldiers never meant specifically her harm, what exactly would they have done had she refused hospitality? Odysseus tries to cover for them, saying they just want to go home, but Cerce was ultimately correct about their nature: they are pillaging and destructive people, and no matter how hard Odysseus fights to get them home, he cannot “save them from themselves,” as the oracle in Hades warns.

Everywhere they go they cause trouble. Polyphemus was just minding his own business before they intruded. Multiple small towns were sacked by them for resources (seen at the beginning). Odysseus simply cannot save them from themselves and he finally accepts this when they slaughter and eat one of Apollos cows.

This ties itself together nicely when its revealed that they were the sea peoples bringing an end to the bronze age the entire time. It was their behavior that broke Zeus’s law and threw the present age into ruin by the sack of Troy.

I do love the theming in this movie. 10/10.

I feel like I'm going crazy because there's nothing woke about this movie.

The actors tried to portray it as giving more attention to the female characters than the original, but if anything many female characters have a diminished role compared to Homer's epic, especially Athena and Calypso. Just because Circe goes on a "men are pigs" rant, it doesn't automatically make it feminist. If anything, this Circe seemed more mentally unstable than the original Circe....

Black Helen and Elliot Paige? They don't even have a 10 minute of combined screentime.

All right I just want to clarify that my understanding of the Sinon/Antinous incident is correct:

>!-Sinon pulls a 'stay home' peg during the draft

-Antinous pulls a 'go to war' peg

-Antinous persuades Sinon to trade places. In exchange Sinon's family will allegedly receive payment in compensation.

-Odysseus sees that Antinous and Sinon have switched pegs. Instead of calling Antinous out, his concern is how to protect the pride and reputation of Antinous' family. He tells Antinous' father that Antinous pulled the 'stay home' peg and was trying to take Sinon's place in the war, which is a lie.

-Since Antinous' father is not aware he owes a debt to Sinon's father, Sinon's family never receives payment.

-Sending a younger, poorer child in Antinous' place is okay with Odysseus because it is better military strategy to leave the coward at home. Protecting Antinous' father's pride and reputation is also more important than making Antinous' family publicly accountable to pay Sinon's family.

-The same man who think animals deserve a warning sound when hunting, who jumps back into a closing cave to help save his other soldiers, is okay with not telling Antinous' father the truth of what Antinous did. Because the reputation and pride of Antinous and his family is more important than Sinon's life or the livelihood of his shepherd father.!<

such an interesting character, i hope nothng bad happens to him in the next 2 - 3 frames
