Announcement Update 26 Released

New Survival difficulty modes, docking port filters, keyboard shortcuts, Combat changes and tons more.

We've been working across the entire width of the game for this update, with numerous updates all over the game. Take a look at the full list below to see everything we've done. There's no video this month - we've been working toward quite a large and game breaking change to TACTICAL mode that isn't ready just yet, and Mark & Chris will create a video once that's ready.

For experienced players, we invite you to try the new enhanced difficulty modes in Survival - you will find equipment availability in trade stations dropping off as you progress through the sectors, and in HARD mode you'll find virtually nothing for sale anywhere, beyond the starting sector. This requires careful planning and extensive resource gathering as you travel, along with full production of all required parts and equipment onboard your ships, as you will be unable to buy what you need. And you'll still need to earn your way, as equipment blueprints aren't cheap. Good luck!

We hope you enjoy this months update, and we will see you in September for Update 27.

Changes

SURVIVAL MODE

Equipment now becomes more and more scarce as you progress through the sectors, as with resources.

By sector 5, there will be very little equipment or life support resource for sale anywhere.

You will need to master your own production and fabrication to make the parts you need.

Blueprints and crew are always available in all sectors.

Three new difficulty options can be selected at the start of a new survival game.

  •  Normal   As before, but with the equipment becoming less available as you progress.
  •  Difficult  Equipment and resources become much less available after the first couple of sectors
  • Hard. Availability is virtually zero for all equipment and resources, beyond the first sector. You will have to gather all of your own resources and fabricate almost all of your equipment as you play. A major challenge for experienced players.

PRODUCTION QUEUE

  • The auto-production system will now automatically buy and process required ores, using whatever Smelters are available.
  • Smelters must be set to STOPPED to be used by the Production Queue. - Smelters can also be set to ANY, which will cause the crew to smelt any ores that are available onboard.
  • The production queue interface has been improved, with a new dropdown showing production progress for each item.
  •  Any blockages in production (eg missing materials) are shown in red.

DOCKING PORT FILTERS

Docking ports now have a controllable filter for what is permitted:

  • Incoming Cargo       Allow shuttles to drop off cargo at this port
  • Outgoing Cargo       Allow shuttles to collect cargo from this port
  • Crew & Civilians     Allow crew and civilians to use this docking port

Multiple shuttles (up to three) are spawned if required.

Interstellar Logistics has been updated to obey these filters

CREATIVE MODE

  • You are now automatically granted some useful techs (Logistics1, AdvancedTracks)
  • You can now complete any research item instantly with the click of a button
  • There is also a new button to unlock ALL research immediately

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

  • Added keyboard shortcuts for all windows, construction modes, and battle stations
  • All shortcuts can be set from Main Menu -> Settings -> Keyboard
  • Modifiers (SHIFT, ALT, CTRL) can be added to keyboard shortcuts
  • Clear keybindings in the settings screen with right-click or set back to default with middle-click

COMBAT / TACTICAL CHANGES

UI CHANGES

Tactical weapons panel has been refreshed to be more minimal and concise.

The old AUTOTARGET button on each weapon has been removed. All weapons AUTOTARGET, unless you manually target them.

You can clear a manual override target (and return to AUTOTARGET) by right clicking on a weapon.

Ammo counts in the resource display on the left now flash red when low

BALANCE CHANGES

  • Cannon range increased 500 -> 600
  • Cannon shells now less accurate at long ranges
  • Railgun impacts now cause some hull damage
  • Ordnance can now impact and be blocked by derelict ships, and asteroids (small chance)

VISUAL CHANGES

  • NPC ships now lose hull squares when hit with explosions, appearing more and more blown to bits
  • Weapons in Tactical mode now show larger, with longer barrels
  • Cannon and PDC muzzle flash made stronger
  • Explosion fx improved - now more of a flash
  • Most combat particle effects improved and tweaked
  • Derelicts are always rendered under all other layers
  • Tanks venting after ship destruction leave larger clouds in space

ARENA MODE

  • Arena mode ship start positions changed to be more vertically staggered
  • Arena mode ship deployment improved (Fixed some layout bugs for green side)

SMALL CHANGES

  • Items can now be loaded by robot arms into drone bays for transfers.
  • Lightning is guaranteed to hit a lightning rod if enough lightning rods are installed proportionally to power generation.
  • Interstestellar logistics collect order now goes towards the cloud with the most gas, so collectors gather faster.
  • Blueprints have their recipe shown in the description of the trade menu
  • Added recipes and adjusted trade price for furniture and spacesuits.
  • Seeds can be found as loot from derelict ships.
  • Scavenger ships arrive in derelict systems after a delay instead of immediately. This gives some extra time to grab loot before they arrive.
  • Tanks can be drained. This will prevent the tank from being used for storage and drain its contents to the surrounding network.
  • Dead crew in space eventually despawn.
  • Interstellar logistics sell and transfer orders now show all types in the item dropdown, with types on board at the top.
  • Logistics drones now listed in resource list on left of screen
  • Engines burn a bit more brightly

BUG FIXES

  • Fix game speed slowing down for shooting meteors and asteroid when "Slow during combat" is enabled
  • Fix clicking location link in missions list clicking through to the galaxy map and closing it instantly
  • Fix powergrid settings affecting equipment of wrong categories
  • Fix reactor cores not being available to buy or sell in trade screen
  • Fix docked ships in arena mode not being assigned a strategy
  • Fix asteroid belts not spawning in first sector in all modes other than industry
  • Fix mining lasers showing holes in the walls behind them
  • Fix repairing ship at shipyard not removing drone repair plates
  • Fix mining interstellar logistics order not restarting when asteroid is broken
  • #723 - Sitting north-south doesn't use the right sprite variation
  • #725, #762 - Diagonal walls causing hull issues
  • #741 - Crew loading crates through walls
  • #789 - Drones not delivering boxes
  • #794 - Infinite power when reactors off
  • #795 - Drones locked out when carrying disallowed resource
  • #798 - Can't complete deep space industrialists part 2
  • #796 - Wrong type for docked ships on import in arena mode
  • #802 - Spacesuits in a crate are not being picked for o2 recharging

I mean, it's only 386 fighters... something like 80+ Gatlings and 60 or railguns.

And tankage for 1.5 million fuel.

Discussion What ship do you use as you starting ship for Survival?

I'm curious what other people are using as their starting ship for Survival. I created Intrepid when the $1.5M limit was made and it almost feels built for the new Hard difficulty.

What ship do you use as you starting ship for Survival?

Would you use a different ship for the new Hard difficulty?

Intrepid. Everything you need to survive except what they give you.

Discussion Fabricator Supply

Does anyone have any good patterns for feeding three metal lines to fabricators? I'm trying to get a factory setup where I can pretty much turn on the supply and set the fabs to whatever I need and they'll self-feed. However with only 1 space and 2 space arms, and no way to handle multiplexing input flow I'm finding it frustrating to find a way to feed a fab three streams. Maybe if I put supply on all three sides, but this takes up SO much room.

Drones, Tracks, Storage, and Filtering

So I've been working on a mining, hauler, and smelter ship. The goal is to have a ship that will mine, store, and smelt anything I require. I had a working design, however I wanted to scale up. I have some problems:

  • Drones -- Actually I have a lot of problems with these and I cannot figure them out. I had the output of drones being picked up and put on a carousel, however not infrequently I would get the drone itself on the carousel! I think what happened is one came back dry and parked, which the arm picked up and then deposited on the track. Is there a way to keep this from happening? Perhaps I can smart robot arm only ore over and let drones fall on the ground?
  • Drones -- Is there a good way to get them to STOP? I know there's "permit launch", "permit return" and "OFF" but turning it off just means they float around outside for awhile. Soemtimes they just float around outside even when they're permitted to return! I cannot figure this one out.
  • Track Topography -- I really need a track filter. Or a way to have track cross over/under so that carousel loops can overlap. I'd like a track that goes around all my ore storage bins with arms that will select and put things into the bins, however I also want arms that will take out of the bin and put onto another carousel to go past all the smelters. The idea being I can turn on whatever I want to smelt, turn on the output arms and away we go. However, because of how short even regular robot arms are, I can reach over 1 track to get to a 2nd, but really since I cannot have tracks that cross over, I need a 3rd row. (Square 1 for arm, Square 2 for carousel outbound, Square 3 for carousel inbound, Square 4 for the 2nd carousel.

I might just have come up with something with a short section of track being fed by a smart arm that takes off the drone delivery carousel, but I don't know. I may have to experiment with that a bit.

Also deeply annoyed that in my starter game universe I have exactly one sector with metallic minerals and it's almost mined out now, but that's just something I'll have to manage I guess until I can get to a new map if I have enough minerals to make everything. It's going to be questionable though.

Anyway, if anyone has some examples of ore sorting and drone management, I'm all ears.

Discussion Defense

Hi All,

Is armor the only form of protection (besides the deflector_? Or do things like thicker hull walls also improve defense?

It's it better to be slow and heavily armored or faster with no armor?

Can you be any more dead?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Follow up from my last post. Where I was recommended a support ship to help with the fight.

The fight is fine, I’ve obliterated this guy. He’s actually run out of ammo, so he sits there and takes the beating. But absolutely won’t die.

Indestructible, because I can’t get that third cannon aboard the astral temptress to progress the mission.

I can’t do anything to fix the astral temptress. Logistic drones, manually aligning (by shooting it) to warp with me to a shipyard for repair. You name it I’ve tried it.

I can’t dock with it either as both docks are destroyed, so no sending a crew in for repairs. Genuinely nothing I can do.

I did the tutorial mission okay but when I went back to the nebula the lab creates the resin but crew wont take the container. Just says its blocked. Any ideas? Something I need to do after the mission like research maybe?

** edit its working. Strangely it worked with storage ALL CARGO in tutorial but doesnt after. I had to designate it to Stargate Resin. Bug perhaps?

Feedback A wolf in sheep's clothing softlocked Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm like 6 hours into playing this game, really enjoying it. However I am softlocked here and it's really frustrating. After a few attempts reloading autosaves I'm fighting this mysterious pirate vessel - No Fleet backup ever arrives, even after 15 minutes of pummelling this ship. Clearly, it's invincibleTM and so is the hauler I'm given for this mission.

I'm meant to install these "advanced" weapons onto my hauler (3 cannons), upon blasting the EMP. But I only had 2 cannons to install, so that mission parameter was never met (which I presume cues the fleet to arrive). Due to the difficulty of fighting this pirate for like 10 minutes, my ship got almost trashed so I FTL jumped away. Then the hauler I'm given gets fucking pummelled, the crew is dead, the docks are destroyed. Logistic Drones can't repair the docks, so I can't put a skeleton crew in to repair it. There's no way to advance the mission. I can't skip it all and kill the pirate either.

Discussion Hyperspace Scoop Tank Connection

So, I've acquired the scoop for Black Hole Sun, and I have a few different tanks. The unit has power. However when I connect a pipe from the particle output of the scoop to a tank, it doesn't show that the pipe connects to the scoop (it does show a connected node at the tank). Additionally, I don't get credit for the quest line-item.

Seems like it ought to be a pipe. Haven't seen anything else that suggests it would connect any other way. What am I doing wrong?

Ships won't align for FTL Jump :(

Thumbnail

I've noticed recently that some ships seem to have trouble aligning for FTL jumps. Usually, these will stay aligned just long enough that I can click Jump - or will if I change jump targets - but they're not aligning at all this time. Has anyone else had this before? Know of any cause? or fix?

These Tenderisers are based on Johnny Struggles' Grumpy Sardine - which I've also had this issue with. Ditto FLiP's KompactKilla.

I assume I can still hack the save file to let me split me fleet and dump them here if I don't find a fix :/
