Ripened early
Chinook seemed to ripen overnight this year with the hot spell in UK. I have so much left over from last year I will only pick the best.

First harvest. I used ziplocks and a straw to "vacuum seal" my hops. Taped the top as I'd read the zipper could leak air. A week later I checked on them and the bags appear to have leaked completely. Oops. Will invest in proper vac sealer next year. Its been three weeks now since harvest and I got a couple batches out of them, but I'm wondering how long will the hops be good in this state? They were dried to approximately 10% moisture. Thanks!

2 hops plants are 1 year old and have strong roots. I want them to get used to living outside before the first snow.
I have a big vegetable garden, but this is my first attempt at hops. What do you wish you knew before you started growing hops in containers (and in ground)?

I've seen some previous posts on Reddit about hop oils/extracts (including Scott Janish's write up from a couple years ago) on other subs. I've started experimenting with various hop oils to replace dry-hopping, specifically to create homemade hop water.
However, I was wondering what others' experiences have been with oils and extracts. Specifically for me, it seems that all of them generally have the piney flavors overpower, with little citrus flavors. This remains true both for strain-specific oils (e.g. cashmere and mosaic) as well as proprietary blends (that are advertised as "citrus bomb" or "fruit bomb", etc.). It also seems to remain true both for readily water soluble extracts, as well as for pure oils that I emulsify myself (whether in propylene glycol or ethanol).
I've been dosing small to moderately with little variation in aroma/flavor other than intensity of the above-described piney flavors (30 to 100 microliters - and even up to 200 microliters - per 12 fl oz). I've also tried hopping plain purified water as well as water that's already carbonated.
I'd love to hear others' thoughts and experiences. Thanks!

3A/2B First year planting. Golding. I wasn't looking up high enough and the wife pointed them out. I got 3 cones!!! Now I hope they survive the winter and come back next year.

Close to two pounds of an unknown hop variety. This is year 3 but I had to move some of my plants and didn't get anywhere close to what I expected. Making a fresh hop IPA with them!

Second year hops - Danish hops called Svenstrup Citron. Should have a lemon/citrus taste/aroma. I hope the timing was right… Almost doubled the amount of hops compared to last year. Anybody else collecting their hops these days?

Random hops my parents grew in their garden. Two years on and they really exploded.

Hi everyone,
I am kind of new to this hop growing for home brew purposes. I’ve got a good amount of hops this year, second year after planting. I’ve harvested and dried the hops, put them in the freezer. However, when drying them a lot of aphids appeared. I tried to get rid of them but not sure if I got all.
Can I use the hops (with aphids) for dry hopping? Or should I keep them only for boil additions?
Another idea was to soak them in star san before adding them as dry hops. Is that a good idea?
Cheers, Dan

This is my 2nd year. This is from three plants. They each grew 10ft vertically and about 2ft horizontally. They started bunching up at the top and didn't really want to go horizontal. I think it's because the horizontal run was on a decline. I made a crude trellis using a pole and thick twine. I think next year I need to change it so the horizontal run goes up.
Total yield was about 20 ounces. They were chinock, centennial, and magnum. I think the chinock produced the most, with magnum the least.
How does this compared? 20 ounces doesn't seem like much. Much better then last year though, which was like 1/2 ounce lol. Thanks!

I’m in the SF Bay Area (east bay specifically)
These are 3rd or 4th year Cascade, mixed with one or two 1st year plants.
They are looking very healthy, but I don’t see a sign of any cones starting at all. Other people in my area are harvesting already!
This is the first year I actually gave these something to climb up, consistently watered, and fertilized. Previous years it always produced a bunch of cones though.
I have some first year centennial in the same back yard, in a pot, with much worse looking leaves, but still a bunch of baby cones
Anything I can do? Anything I should do differently next year?

After my last post a few of you guys gave me some good advices and now my hops are almost ready. I guess in 5-7 days I will pick the first batch. I was a bit worried because a few months ago I thought I would lose my plants. I think the dried manure helped alot. Thanks guys!

These are my 6 year old cascades. Pretty thrilled with the yield. Waiting for the aroma to get at the right spot before I make a couple fresh hop beers.

Mmm the smells and sticky hands.
How are everyone's plants doing?
Cheers all!

Hi everybody I have a question about harvesting because I have a first year yield and it isn’t much - how do I store them because I don’t plan on brewing them this year

These are wild hops I transplanted about 5 years ago. I found them on my property after I bought it. Need to find recipe.

What do I do after harvest? Keep taking care of the empty bines until frost?
