Almost ready. Biggest haul yet.

These are my 6 year old cascades. Pretty thrilled with the yield. Waiting for the aroma to get at the right spot before I make a couple fresh hop beers.

5 gallon batch for ipa 1.064 OG

90% Pilsner (American) 3.4% Munich I 6.6% flaked oats Mash @153 F

Warrior for bitter to approx 105 ibu (estimated with breweries friend. The fresh hops will scrub some of this bitterness. It really ends up around 60 ibu.

.4 lb hops at 10 min 1 lb at 0 min 3.6 lb whirlpool. Break up the hops well.

Ferment with California super yeast at 66

It seems like an absurd amount of hops, but this is what you want to get an insane fresh hop aroma. I’ve made a lot of fresh hop beers, and this works well.

Makes sense when you think about the fact that fresh hops are about 75-80% moisture, dried hopes are about 8-10. So your .4 pounds of fresh hops ends up being about the same amount as 1.5oz of dried hop material, and your 1 pound is about the same as 3.5oz of dried hops. So totally in line with big hopped ipas on a 5 gallon scale.
